Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the Nest Wi-Fi Video Doorbell's easy setup, long battery life, and excellent video quality. They appreciate the convenience of the battery-operated feature and the clear images captured by the doorbell. However, some users have expressed concerns about the Google Home app's performance, the doorbell's size, the need for a subscription for certain features, occasional connectivity issues, and compatibility limitations.

Easy install and has a range of view. I've had it up for about a month and haven't seen the battery percentage drop much. My front entrance is on the side of my house so it doesn't capture or notify of cars passing on the street or people walking on the sidewalk. Just whomever is in range of my door. If you don't have a lot of visitors that helps eliminate the "whose there?" Settings for packages has worked great as well.

NOTE FOR APPLE USERS: Google's Nest products don't integrate with Apple HomeKit well. For example, with this Nest Doorbell, you don't be able to see images/videos/streaming from the camera using your MacOS/iOS/iPadOS HOME app. You're forced to use Google's native Home app, which is honestly one extra, unnecessary step. That being said, the camera works perfectly well for its intended purpose. I use it inside an apartment complex to keep an eye out for packages while I travel for work/personal trips. Installation is pretty self explanatory. The item comes with a rubber wedge that you can install prior to mounting the doorbell to give it an angle. Installation is a breeze and I'd recommend having a Google Account ready to go through the process. Battery life purely depends on how often it's being used. Mine goes off multiple times a day for packages and neighbors passing by my door but I can still get a solid 3-4 months (estimate) out of it before having to recharge the device. Camera is equipped a wide-angle (vertical) lens. Picture quality is highly dependent on lighting. Because mine is set in a building hallway with clinically bright lighting, the image quality looks great. Locations with lots of shade (awning/porch cover/poor lighting) may cause some image quality degradation. The AI is smart enough to recognize if it's a person, animal, person with a package, etc. A LOT of features are locked behind the Google subscription paywall. Specifically all-day recording. The standard system can do Live Video streams whenever you like. The video RECORDINGS, on the other hand, are short clips that last for however long the moving object is there. If it doesn't sense anything, nothing is recorded. Full history video recordings of clips only go back 24 hours. The subscription will allow for significantly more (you're paying for server space and access to the videos, essentially). Honestly, I have more gripes about the SOFTWARE more than the HARDWARE. The ONLY issue I have with the hardware is that the way to unmount the camera to bring it in for charging is a thin metal "key." It's quite literally a flat metal piece so anyone can just plop the camera off your mount if they had something like a metal nail file on hand.

Easy to use, clear video. I had it installed on the side of my townhouse garage so that I could tell when packages are delivered and trash is picked up. Uses an included tool to remove it from its frame for recharging using a USB-C cable. App is simple to use. Goes along with other google Home devices I use. The design is simple and straightforward. Battery usage depends on how much you want it to record. Lets you pick what you want it to make a recording of: people, animals, vehicles (or a combination of these). Announces a bell ring through a google assistant in the home. It's bigger and heavier than I thought it would be from the photos. That's not an issue, but I expected something smaller and less noticeable. A small discreet circle around the buzzer at the bottom lights up when it's recording. I'm not sure my neighbors appreciate the fact that my doorbell lights up and records them every time they walk by with their dog.

    Great doorbell with 1 issue

The doorbell is good compared to others. I had the doorbell from Vivint and I like this doorbell more because of the extra features. Compared to Ring doorbell I’d say they are about even. That’s my opinion… the battery life lasts about 2 weeks sometimes a few extra days past the 2 week mark, but ours gets plenty of use. BIGGEST ISSUE!! there is a black button on the back of the doorbell that locks the doorbell into place, well it gets stuck and you have try and clean it or wiggle it out…. If you don’t it won’t click to lock into place correctly. I had this issue on the first Google doorbell after about 9 months. Family friend went to ring the doorbell and it fell off the mount and broke when it hit the floor. I turned it over and the darn button was stuck inside. Wasn’t able to warranty it because now it was broken… there are two screws on the back that I use as a safety now just incase that happens again it won’t fall on the floor and I can warranty it out.

Hi there, Tony. Thanks for your detailed Google Nest Doorbell review. It's great to hear that you're generally happy with it and find it superior compared to other brands. Your feedback on the battery life being better is highly appreciated. It's unfortunate to know that you experienced this with your first doorbell and it was clever to use 2 screws as a safety measure but we suggest checking it with our dedicated team of support in the Google Help Center so they can provide you a better resolution. A lot easier to install than I thought it would be! Quality of the Camera is incredible and the audio/mic feature have been great for when I'm not home and a delivery driver needs instructions, I can communicate with them on the fly. The battery also lasts forever since is runs only when it detects movement on my property.

Great quality. I’ve owned several different brands of outdoor cameras and every single one had extremely loud “white noise” feedback to the point that you couldn’t even understand or hear a conversation. The Google nest has little to no feedback and the camera quality is great.

I only wanted it for the video doorbell and to see when people and deliveries happen. Both things it does well. After having it for a few months I can say the cold weather kills the battery fast. I usually ha e to charge it every 2-3 weeks. But I kind of expected it so it doesn't really bother me too much. The biggest hurdle I had was getting a good mount for it. I got tired of trying what was available and what came with it and 3d printed my own. It came out so much better. I don't subscribe to the additional plans so I can't speak to how they work. It does what I wanted it to.

I’ve had this camera for almost 9 months. I did tons of research and decided on the Google Nest Doorbell camera. To say I’m satisfied is a understatement. Compared to other cameras I’ve had, the battery life and camera quality is magnificent for my needs. The app is also easy to navigate and the alerts are nifty. Nothing is ever perfect, but this is darn near. I plan on purchasing another one soon. (If you are debating on this purchase I highly recommend going with Nest.)

Pretty good camera for my first door bell camera. I got a mount from Amazon and was installed easily for the battery operated one. The videos are a bit choppy but I’m unsure if it due to my WiFi. I’ll test it more when I have to charge the battery.

Google’s doorbells are excellent. From the quality of the product to the ease of installation nothing comes close. Combined with the Google Floodlight Camera and Google Outdoor Cameras we have 100 % piece of mind. With Familiar Face Detection we know exactly who is walking up to our property before they can reach the door.

Picture perfect. The app did all of the install work, except screwing in 2 screws. Twenty-three minutes start to finish. Amazing. I’m a 66-year old woman, admittedly handy, but still. . . this was super simple. Perfectly clear video. Was picking up the neighbor’s voice across the street so i turned the audio to lower response. So cool. I had debated for a year whether to get a video doorbell. Tried to install a different brand that would not work with my 35-year old transformer (it’s pulling 10.8). So glad I found this Google product that can accommodate older/lower output transformer.

This is the second one I've purchased. I have one for my house, and when a friend needed one, I picked up one and installed it for her. Installation can be challenging depending depending on the location you need it. For me, there was no existing doorbell, so I also purchased the solar charger for it. For my friend, it replaced her existing door bell and was able to hardwire. It also works great with her existing chime. Very happy with the product and would recommend.

The good: - nice hardware (a bit chunky tho) - free subscription gives you 300 hours of video - good video quality - Google home app - option to hardwire Most of the bad reviews are from people trying to connect this to their legacy Nest system and app. One day the Nest app will be marked as deprecated and support will stop. Maybe read the box before buying?

    Regret my purchase

I regret buying this. I wish I would have just gone with the Blink system we already knew or tried out the Ring doorbell. I got a Google hub for my grandparents and so they got this to replace their Ring doorbell and regretted it too. Issue number one.. only wired-in doorbells can have a separate chime that you can add to the system. If you do not have a Nest hub, Google Home assistant ($100), or other Nest branded speakers (also additional $100 purchase) you will not have a doorbell chime. You will only know someone is at your door if you have your phone on you. Our issue was we had a Hub but it was downstairs. So if someone rang the bell and we were upstairs we never knew. Because we had the battery and not wired doorbell we could not even purchase these additional speakers to go with our system. This seems like it could be as simple as a smart plug with a speaker on it that connects to the same wifi. It should not need the purchase of additional expensive speakers or hubs. Issue two, sound on the video. I can never hear any sound at all on my recorded videos from my doorbell. The video is turned all the way up and nothing. Issue three, how long videos are saved. My Blink devices save videos for me for up to 60 days! Google non-paid subscription I get a measly 3 hours and it is ONLY savable on their cloud. There is no option for an SD or USB storage like there is on the Blink cameras. Overall I don't think I would recommend this doorbell. I wish I had done more research and gone with a Blink or Ring instead as they both also cost much less and could have used an Echo Show as my home screen which also has a lot more options than the Google Hub.

This is my first video doorbell. I have mixed feelings about this doorbell and will probably return it. After 4 days of usage, here is my honest feedback. Pros: Battery operated Easy to install using the hardware provided. Able to view the clip in the notification pull down on my Samsung phone. Detects people who approach consistently but not the packages that is left on the porch. It integrates well with Google Home. Video can be seen on my older Google hub. I don't know for sure what voice commands there are. Two way communication works great. Able to connect to doorbell camera and view it as long as I have good cellular connection. Cons: Has to be set up using Google Home with your Google account. Nest app or account will not work. Setup was NOT a breeze in Google Home app. On the first try, set up did not finish. On the second try, Google home could not find the device, but on the third try, I asked my Google mini device to sync my accounts and it finally showed up. Camera does a poor job of detecting animals (cats, dogs, raccoons, opossums, and other animals that come up on my front porch). This is still true when I have all motions turn on for notifications and wake-up sensitivity set to high. In order to see live feed for a longer period of time, you must install it using the old doorbell power wires. There is no fast charging. It takes about 1 hour per 10% charge so it takes about 10 hours to charge it from 0% to 100%. Notifications are sometimes late and sometimes several minutes late. Sometimes the doorbell will not send a notification of a person until the person has already walked away. Video quality at 1080p is still below average. When I zoom in during a live viewing, the quality suffers greatly. Night vision...my old Altec Lansing ALT-117 IP camera does a better job. Constantly get the message from Nest "Updating your phone's location for Home/Away Assist". You have to turn it off in Notifications settings on Android. You have a 3 hr window to save any video clip. Any video clips outside the 3 hr will no longer be available to view or save. Look at the circle times and events on both pics to see it. You must subscribe to their storage service in order to have clips outside the 3 hr window. Also, if you have any Nest devices before Google bought Nest, then you are required to move them from Nest app to Google Home. You must use your Google account to add them. I had to delete the devices from my Nest app/account and add them via Google home. I had to set up a new "home" location in the Nest app using my Google account (linking the accounts maybe?). I also had to re-add my Kasa Smart Plug mini and wall switches to the Kasa app and then reconnect the Kasa account to Google Home. I have the Blink Doorbell with sync 2 module and outdoor camera ordered through Target.com b/c I get 5% off via Red Card. I hope it will be better than Google - Nest Doorbell.

Was on the fence between Google Nest Doorbell (battery) and Ring. Opted to try google due to already having google products (nest mini; hub). Doorbell works great for my condo. I read reviews regarding poor battery in cold temperatures. With this winter (Northern California), lows are approx 32 degrees over night. I’ve had the battery out for about 3 weeks now, and still have 92% battery left (3 months). Solid doorbell, great quality. Google home app easy to navigate. Doorbell rings come through on mobile devices and hub
