    Good android phone

This is my first android phone. I am yet to use many of the features which the phone offers. This review is based on my experience so far. Pros: 1. Usability and a very responsive touch screen 2. Call quality 3. Speakerphone 4. OS is fast 5. a decent camera Cons / Issues: 1. The photo gallery behaves odd at times. I see blank screen instead of the photos. Sometimes the photos from picasa are all gone and has to be re-synced (Do not know if I am doing something wrong) 2. Battery life could have been better. 3. Disabling the sync feature in some app could have been made simple as some of the app have their own settings (apart from the global settings) which has to be disabled individually. But I think Android is designed that way. 4. No software from Google to use front facing camera.

I had this phone for a week now and its awesome compared to mytouch 3g. Its a faster processor and the latest android gingerbread is great. I love the front facing camera and it's 5.0 megapixels the quality of photos is good and the video is clear. The phone is light weight it feels like a toy but I can assure you that this phone is awesome. The battery is a little weak but that's expected of a android phone running a lot of apps.

    Best Android Phone ever

I was a very satisfied Nexus One user before, and when I put my hands on this device I couldn't belive how better it is compared to the former Google phone. It is light weight, bright screen, fast, responsive and after you install the Swype keyboard the world is yours. It works flawlessly in Brazil were I live, I bought it unlocked and tried already 3 carriers over here and was able to get 3G in all of them. If you are tired of the the jail Iphone puts you in, that's the phone for you. The only drawback with this device: The lack of an indication led, which can be overcome installing an application called NoLed from the market. 5 stars

    Some Pros & Cons

Before i get indepth with details about pros and cons about the phone, i would definitely say that the phone looks very smart .. and the screen is spectacular.. PROS: Pure Vanilla Android.. i for one am not a fan of HTC/Samsung customizations and this was the reason i went for the Nexus S. I have already received 1 update on the gingerbread so that is a plus point as i dont have to wait around for the updates. the phone has a very nice loud speakerphone which i really use and find useful. the phone is quite fast and i really havent noticed any lag while using it for the last month ive had it. the camera is quite decent and the picture quality is quite decent.. only wish it had a zoom function CONS: ofcourse if your are buying this phone you already are aware of most of the PROS so getting to the bad parts about it now. #1 - when you are talking to someone and you get a email/text msg while in-call the phone rings quite loud as it is right next to your ear. this is ofcourse an android fault and not the phone so hopefully they can patch this up in the coming updates. #2 - i once had a problem with my ringtones not ringing. but after a system reformat it seemed to be fine.. so yea.. #3 - i think this is a problem with a lot of smart phones and not just nexus, that you have to reboot the phone every other day or so because the internet stops working properly.. but a simple reboot fixes the problem.. i believe it has something to do with the cellular towers you cross throughout the day.. to conclude, i would say, this phone is definitely worth getting right now.. coz it has all the features one can ask for.. and it looks amazing 4.5/5 from me... (would be a 5, but my con #1 reason gives it a -.5)

    Pure android experience

Bought the phone two months ago, great at first but upon daily use the phone still has many bugs to be fixed. After the 2.3.3 update which fixed the rebooting issue, sms issue, and data loss issue there are still other problems. The wifi signal is very weak. I lose wifi connection or only have two signal bars when I'm 10 feet away from the router. The phone is fast since it has the hummingbird processor and no custom UI on top of android but still lags on occasion. The GPS is better after the 2.3.3 update but still has a hard time locking onto satelites. Sometimes there are sms errors where messages can't be sent but rebooting the device fixes this problem (this can get annoying). I'm constantly rebooting my device everyday to fix all these bugs everyday. Also, update 2.3.3 changed the color temperature of the display ( it now has a yellow tint and colors seem washed out). I'm not a fan of the display change but this my taste and the display was one of the main reasons I bought this phone. I also use to own an iphone 3gs before I switched to the Nexus S. The iphone got boring after year but it was much more reliable and stable. I almost never had to reboot my iphone 3gs, but for the Nexus S I'm at least doing it once a day.

This is close to a galaxy in appearance... but more sleek. There is nothing so much great in it other than latest android OS. Samsung could have done a better job to give a unique look! * Battery life is better.. i got 1 day 13hrs with minimal use... * No FM radio! * I couldn't connect to my sony ericsson walkman via blue tooth. It pairs well but not connecting! * front and back camera is a great feature but no native application to make video call. * no HD video capture (only play back) * sound quality is average. Speaker is placed on the back panel so if you place it anywhere while playing a youtube song it shuts the outlet! * The most advertised feature, NFC is of no use at the moment. More over its only one-way now; other devices cant read from it. * Average camera application, with bare minimum features. Google could have done a better job.

Up to moment of writing this review, It is the greatest smart phone. Things I Like: - Very fast and reliable. - Desktop Widgets. - Google services compatibly. - Screen resolution. - Speaker's voice quality. - Price. - Synchronization with Google account (no backups anymore). - send/receive files via Bluetooth, not like iPhone. Things I Don't Like: - No camera shutter button. - Speaker is on the back. - Made of plastic. - 4 actual buttons, instead of using on App buttons. - Usability problems.

Good phone but lacks some features and has bugs

Overall, I think the phone itself is very good. I would never buy a locked Android phone that has all of the crapware and restrictions that carriers put on it which is why I wanted a Nexus phone. The Nexus One was nice but suffered from a bad touch screen, but I heard good reviews about the Nexus S touchscreen (which is extremely important if there is no keyboard). As far as hardware goes, I think the phone is pretty decent. It has a fast CPU with a decent amount of RAM. Where it lacks however is the fact that it does not have an LED notification or removable SD card slot. I was quite disappointed that it was not removable. I believe Google is hoping to bring a lot to "cloud" computing but we are not quite there yet. The program/service mSpot definitely became a favorite of mine, I have uploaded my entire music library to the "cloud" with their service (they have a limited free service and a broader paid service for $4 a month) and can listen to my entire library on any connection without having to physically save them to my phone. Other services like Pandora are nice too. So even though it lacks the SD card, with these services a removable SD card may be unnecessary anyway. The phone doesn't support HSPA+ (4G) which was a disappointment for being the "next generation" phone. It will support 3G speeds at which it handles well on T-Mobile. You can also use AT&T with this phone, however AT&T will only run on EDGE with this phone (AT&T runs on the 850 band which this phone doesn't support on HSPA but does support on EDGE/GSM). Without the LED notification, you could possibly miss text messages unless you install 3rd party apps that will pop up your SMS messages (such as Handcent SMS) that light up the screen. As far as software goes, the 2.3 system suffers from quite a few bugs which is extremely annoying. I found quite a few bugs reported on their bug tracker system with several other users reporting the same thing. I don't understand how Google rushed out 2.3 to the market before Christmas 2011 with still having these bugs which are still not fixed as of yet on the revision 2.3.3. These bugs include but not limited to issue #'s 13563, 13434, 13510, and the most major bug 13563 found on code.google.com/p/android/ I am sure that all of these bugs had to have been problems during the testing of the software as most of these bugs have been in all 3 Nexus S phones I have had (with the exception of 13510). The issue with bug 13510 was not in my first phone (which I had to trade in because Samsung said it was defective hardware due to bug 13563, but we discovered it was not!) but appeared in my second phone. I returned my second phone due to that bug and all the above bugs except 13510 were in the third phone. Google really needs to get these bugs fixed, it is a shame on them for releasing software like this with all of these problems. I ended up installing a third party launcher as a work around to some of the other bugs. Other than the bugs however, the general aspect of the software itself is pretty nice. I do enjoy many of the iPhone-like features, but also enjoy Android specific features, my most notable features is the talk-to-text function where I can talk into the mic to help me text so I don't have to type it out all the time. The only bad thing is that you have to speak extra clearly or it may completely misunderstand you. It just takes some getting used to. Another major advantage I enjoy software wise is the WiFi tethering. I can flip on the WiFi tethering to be able to use the phone as my WiFi hotspot when on the go. It is not worth $20 a month to pay ANY provider for WiFi hotspot access because I don't use my laptop enough to make it worth it. It is nice to have however in a pinch when I need to use my laptop somewhere and there is no WiFi. I also see myself using this when I get an Android Tablet with 3.0 in the future (so I will only have to buy a WiFi only model instead of a 3G model). So overall, with the exception of no LED notification, removable SD card, not HSPA+ or the current bugs plaguing the system, I still enjoy this phone a lot, replacing my iPhone. Now hopefully Hulu and Netflix can get their apps on the Android platform and this device very soon!

I moved to the Nexus S from a Nexus One. I'm so glad Google decided to continue to release a phone that really shows the industry what a real Android phone is. It's really fast, sleek, gorgeous display (blacks are as black as the phone itself) and it runs (and will continue) the latest and greatest version of Android. I really have a hard time recommending other Android phones solely because of what the carriers and manufacturers do to them to try and make them unique... all that really does is slows them down and makes getting the newest OS updates a laborious task. This phone will always have the latest version of Android before any other phone does. T-Mobile is awesome to boot... great 3G speeds and pricing. This is THE Android phone to own. Pure Google all the way.

I have always been very excited about the Google's new products and couldn't help it when the new Nexus S was introduced in December. It's now more than a month that I own this phone and I can say I don't regret buying it. It is a very fast smartphone with a high quality screen. Above all, it has the main feature of a cell phone which is the high quality phone calls if the T-Mobile service permits! Yes! If you are not a T-Mobile user and want to switch to it because of this phone (as I did!), don't forget to check the coverage at your area or simply ask a friend who is a subscriber of T-Mobile. I'm very satisfied that I get the latest updates of Android OS at the earliest time. You also have the privilege of using all the Google apps like any other Android phones. Among these apps is the new Google Maps and the Navigation app which work very well with the built-in GPS of the phone. I've never had an i-phone, but if I want to compare it with Nexus S, I would say: Nexus S: 1- You would get a better phone call's quality (which is what we buy the cell phone for!) 2- You will have access to Google apps (including free navigation. in i-phone you need to pay for this) i-phone: 1- You will get a better screen 2- You will have a smaller, better-looking phone. 3- You will have 720p video camera 4- You will join the club of thousands of i-phone owners, so you will never be left alone! This phone is certainly one of the best phones in the market and I'm sure that you would be satisfied if you buy it. However, there are some great phones coming to the market in the near future with fantastic features like: dual-core processors, HD recorders, better screens, .... So, check what is coming to the market and if you really need those features, wait for them, otherwise go and get one NEXUS S.

Being a sony erricson fan for last 8 years now i decided to get GNS as my first android phone. I opened the box phone had an impressive feel and look. there was no installation CD. Display is very crisp, call and speaker quality is great. ringtones are very subtle but manageble. cannot use these tones for wakeup alarm. i tried to pair my sony walkman phone W980i but it failed. but it did receive music files without pairing. i was also able to pair up the sony HBH-DS980 blue-tooth stereo headset and works well. music quality is AVERAGE, no equalizers or bass boost present in the nexus S. Greatest features of this phone are the Apps, it synced contacts from my gmail account in a flash, voice commands are perfect for sending sms and performing searches. in way it does makes life lot easier. overall enjoying the new android/google experience.

Really great phone. SO much quicker to boot from battery removal, move through programs and respond than my Blackberry Curve. Phone is sexy, functional, thin. Was a little concerned about moving away from a physical QWERTY keyboard, but withe the landscape virtual keyboard, its a breeze, and i'm quickly getting better at the profile virtual keyboard (phone held on its side, vs top to bottom). I would NOT consider that an issue if giving another person advice on whether to make the switch from physical to virtual keyboard. Downside is all those amazing features use LOTS of battery. so budget chargers or extra batteries into the purchase. Originally a Palm fan (may they rest in peace), the first phone i liked EVER post palm was the blackberry - but this blows blackberry away. ONE WARNING, android does NOT have a seamless solid Outlook/phone sync (calender AND contacts, tasks memos), so I've had to cobble solutions together piecemeal. Hopefully that will change. Be prepared. Otherwise, highly recommend it, despite some challenges.

I had the Nexus one. I loved that phone. Only issue was the inability to play most video. I like the Nexus S but don't love it. Screen is bright, plays video and has a front facing camera. Can not get any video chat software to work. Very fast and good call reception. Texting is great on this phone. Overall is such an easy phone to use. The battery is terrible, not bad TERRIBLE. I can leave it on the charger, turned off, over night and it will only be at 95%. Past day one, I have never seen 100% Can not go a whole day without needing to be charged. Feels a little cheap compared to the nexus one. Sleek design that is nice and light.

The Nexus S is probably the smoothest Android experience out right now because it runs Android 2.3 and comes with no bloatware, but in my opinion it is lacking quite a bit. I have tried all four major carriers this year and although I will stick with the Nexus S and T-Mobile for the time being, I do not know if this is where I will be come 2011. The Nexus S feels great to me and is fairly solid. I love simplicity and the Nexus S has hardly any external buttons and just works. The software runs as it should and gets the job done. I am disappointed that some of my apps force close at the moment, but that will be fixed with updates. I was surprised to see the update for Google Voice for Nexus S force closes when trying to go into the configure menu; this app should work flawlessly. I am also disappointed to not have WiFi Calling, this is a feature of the MyTouch 4G and G2, but is not available with the Nexus line (One or S). I am also disappointed that the Nexus S is not compatible with the "4G" HSPA+ network that T-Mobile is touting so heavily. In fact here are many of my disappointments: - no HD video recording capability - no microSD card expansion - currently does not work with Qik Video Chat or Rdio - nfc is brand new on mobile phones (in USA) so I doubt it will get used - Samsung keeps changing the location of the soft touch buttons - T-Mobile's 3G network usually goes out in buildings (at least well built buildngs) - T-Mobile's 3G network is very limited in coverage, mainly urban areas and major highways But with that said, no phone/network is perfect and I really do like the pros of the device more than the cons. I am a true phone hopper/ number porter and in the last 12 months have owned a: Nexus One, HTC Hero, HTC Evo, iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4, Samsung Fascinate, HTC Incredible, HTC HD2, a few blackberries, and now I'm settling with the Nexus S. Hopefully I will keep the device longer than 6 months but who knows with what is expected in 2011.

Most of what i say here is compared to the mytouch 4g, witch is a very nice phone and its what i know best beside my own phone because my wife owns one. I have had the nexus s for about three months now and i love it. I have never had any bugs or issues with it since i got. But I have to admit when i first got the phone i was a little disappointed. It felt lighter and intern flimsy in the hand compared my wife's mytouch, the camera has no zoom, 16 gb of internal memory but no SD card slot for expansion, not 4g and does not have as many out of the box pre-installed apps (that's open to opinion whether that's good or bad). Then after having the phone for a month i realized the pros completely out weighed the cons. First off its fast, very fast. Has a 1 ghz processor and its noticeably faster than the my touch. The super AMOLED screens is the best i have every seen on phone and complement the phone very nicely that its one of the few phones you can watch Netflix movies on. Most android apps are free so less out of the box apps means more room for what you want. I can go 2 days of light use without having to charge, my wife must charge her phone when she gets home from work or it will die and that's with light use as well. would be nice to expand memory but in my opinion internal memory is faster than an sd card. So all and all the only con is it feels flimsy but I'm a little clumsy and have dropped it a couple of times from a standing on to a hard floor and it has yet to brake (with a case). I would 100% recommend this phone.

    Nexus S rocks

After playing with my new nexus s for a day, I am really happy with it. As a iPhone 3Gs users, I have to say nexus S is superb. Android really catches up fast. I believe this new phone has reach the same level as iPhone 4 (which I have also played for a few days). Pros: - Seamly integration with Google service. If you use Google's service a lot on your phone, you will feel much better on Nexus S. Everything from Google (such as search, voice search, GPS, Google Voice) feels like part of the phone. But on iPhone, I have to click the icon to start the app. For example, to use voice search, I can just hold the Search hardware key below the screen for a few second and start talk to it. Also, when I call some one it offers me the option to use Google Voice number or my real number. That is unbelievablly convenient. - Apps. I have heard a lot about the iPhone Apps Store has more apps than Android, but to me, Android store seems to have what I need. Everything I had on my 3Gs, I can find its app on my Nexus S. They looks almost same. I really don't see any difference on the app side. - Customize. After using ipod touch, iphone 3G and 3Gs for so long, I feel so bored. Apple restricts every way you do things. It is great for people to have a consistent user experiences, but it is so boring that every iphone has to look and operates the same way. Cons: The looks of iPhone might be a little bit better than nexus S. Overall, I am so glad that I converted from iphone3Gs to Nexus S instead of iphone 4

I previously owned a Nexus One by HTC and it is the best phone I've ever owned. Until I purchased the Nexus S. Android is a great mobile OS and I like the fact that it comes just the way Google intended on the Nexus S as it did one the Nexus One. The phone feels solid and looks good. The display is above average and is usable even in bright sunlight. The sound quality on calls is excellent. This phone gets good signal even in under served areas. The touchscreen response is smooth and reliable. Apps launch instantly and web browsing is fast. Ok, now onto a couple of not so great things - battery life is an issue and with moderate use you're lucky to make it through a day without recharging. I'm disappointed with the camera. The camera on the Nexus One was significantly better. But overall, this is a fantastic phone and I would recommend it without hesitation.

    Needs a 3000 mAh Battery

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Love the phone, the form factor, the software, the ease of use, the integration with Google the available add on apps. Love to use the phone and that means that the 1500 mAh battery just is not sufficient for a full days use without topping up at least once. Seems to me that the benchmark for battery has to be that the phone is doing something for 10 hours, i.e. playing music, surfing web, texting, talking, taking pictures. Not all of those things simultaneously, but at least one of them at any given moment for 10 continuous hours and the battery is still say 30%. This is absolutely not the case with this phone. So, if you are mobile on foot, and plan to love the phone as much as it can be loved and use it as much as it can be used, plan on getting yourself a back up battery. If you are in a car a lot then no worries because you can plug it in and keep the battery charged in the car. If you have an office type of job and can keep it plugged in while 'at the desk' then no worries. And the navigation system on this phone is phenomenal. Absolutely amazing considering what you can pay for a stand alone Navigation system. If you are a Google user, you should love this phone. If Samsung offered a 3000 mAh battery for this (for a reasonable amount of money), the rating would go from 4 to 10.

So I've had this phone for a little while now. I of course did the first 3 power drains like you should to make battery life better. I can usually get about 2 days out of the phone depending on how much I use it to be honest. If I do a lot of heavy talking on this phone then I do charge it because the battery will run low. There are however a lot of apps you can get to watch how much power you have been using. When I text, it barely takes up any power, and running apps is super easy. The only real drain I've found on battery for this phone is prolonged phone calls. I love the phone and I'm more of a texter than a talker so it works out perfectly for me. The display is gorgeous, and the back camera is great. The front camera can be a little grainy, but that was to be expected after reading the specs. Granted you can still take some pretty decent pictures with the front camera. I have had no issues with lag on this phone, nor have I had any freezes. I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard, but there are plenty of apps that can make up for that. I'm honestly still getting use to the digital keyboard, so it is probably just a me thing. So far I have had a great experience with this phone, and will do an update at a later time when I've had a few more months to play with it.
