Customers often highlight the excellent camera quality and the ease of use as major pros. The sleek design and light weight also receive positive feedback, while the large screen is appreciated by some. However, many users cite short battery life as a significant drawback, along with the lack of expandable storage.

This phone is very good, has a sleek curved design and is very light and easy to use if you are familiar with android. The 4 inch super amoled display is amazing, colors are rich and vibrant. Phone comes with android 2.3 gingerbread and runs awfully fast with the 1ghz hummingbird processor. Battery life on this device is amazing, you need to let the battery die a few times when its new so it can be calibrated properly, it gets me through the day with medium to heavy usage. The camera on it is fair to say the least, not great, but far from bad. I have never found that to be an issue when purchasing a phone, if you want great pics, buy a great camera it's that simple.

Con: slippery shell; short battery life
Pro: powerful OS; versatile Android Market; responsiveness
Tip to increase battery life twice:
to install Advanced Task Killer app (Auto kill level = aggressive; Auto kill frequency = every half hour)

Gingerbread? Yes, please!

I upgraded from the Nexus One. In some ways it does not feel like an upgrade, I like the build of the Nexus One better, the lack of HSPA+ & SD card make it seem like the N1 and Nexus S are not that different. The front facing camera is adequate, but the built in Google Talk application does not support it for video chat, only the camera app and 3rd party video chat apps make use of the FFC. The rear facing camera could have been better. Gingerbread runs greatly on the phone, but being that this is the ONLY phone that has 2.3 (at the time of this writing) I have nothing to compare it with. The first phone in the states to have a Near Field Communications chip built in, but there is absolutely no need for this technology yet. Let's hope that changes. The phone's 16GB internal memory is more than enough for the average user, but it would be nice to have the option to upgrade. As always, the best thing about Android is the built in integration with Google services. I recommend this phone, but be wary of it's downfalls/cons.

Great Phone for Vanilla Android

Had this phone since the launch date and could not be more satisfied. It's not a perfect phone (4G, HD recording) but it downloads fast enough and not sure that the incremental 4G would be something I would give up vanilla android software for. Screen is awesome and the phone is very light. I actually like that since it makes it easier to carry and if you are going to put a cover on it, you can still carry it in your pocket.
I would buy a Seidio cover if you are looking for one and a longer life battery from Seidio as well.

Great phone, no 4G

A great phone, feels great, looks great, works great. Screen is beautiful, and pure Android provides a unadulterated experience. Front camera is big addition.
The only downside, to justify 4 stars, is lack of HSPA+ support that provides high 4G speeds on T-Mobile and AT&T network. Nexus S+ anyone?

Best Google Phone

Google was right on the spot with this phone. It has the cool design and sharp screen that I expected from an Android phone. The battery life was finally taken into consideration for all the nice features on this device (Bluetooth, wi-fi, 3G, GPS, camera, music, etc...). I would highly recommend.

the phone isn't that much of a hardware leap for me (coming from a Nexus One) so it meets most of my expectations. the screen is better than what i expected and the contoured screen really does feel better up against your ear. my only gripe is the phone is made by samsung so it feels REALLY fragile... its not though, i've droped it alot and still not even a scratch. so i'd say once casemate comes out with a case for it, it'll feel as solid as my Nexus One did.

My nexus s screen is significantly brighter than my epic 4g. So the screen has been improved, that’s a plus for the nexus s! PURE GOOGLE!! NO SKINS! The micro SD is a lame reason not to like this phone, I am getting 23mbs per second read on internal sdcard, my class 10 SD does not come close. Also the notification light is a bummer, but really? The bestselling phone in America, does not have a notification light. (iPhone). I love the nexus s, screen is so vibrant and glass is smooth as silk! (btw I did the scratch test with my keys, all good)

Android Gingerbread 2.3 is the latest and greatest from the wizards at google and it shines unfettered on the galaxy s user interface. The new NFC technology will be a powerful tool in the future. The contoured screen is subtle but you will notice it (aesthetically pleasing). Compare this phone to Samsungs Galaxy S line on steroids with a nip tuck!
Bottom line: The best smart phone on the market right now. Buy it!

I got this as a development phone. It is super fast and feature rich. I don't have t-mobile, so I use it on wi-fi only. Great for skype calls. Screen is super bright and crisp.
Bootloader is unlocked so flashing your own roms (Cyanogen), or getting root access is pretty straight forward

This is a fantastic phone. I use it on T-Mobile's network. The 3G is super fast. As with any network I have places where I am on 3G but my speed is lower than desired. Apps run and load extremely fast. The touch screen is very responsive and reacts the way you expect. Auto backlight works really well. Battery saver widget! Mobile Hotspot and tethering. NFC tags are really nice! Takes great pictures and video. Availability to load aps to the phone or the internal USB storage.
Cons: Not all apps are entirely compatible with Gingerbread (Android 2.3.2) As Gingerbread becomes more widely used this will get better (and as users send feedback). Battery life is not fantastic if you are running 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS and sync. If I only utilize the wireless network and sync battery life is much better. I honestly wish the screen would get darker. The auto backlight adjusts nicely but during the night I wish it would be able to be half as bright. Non expandable memory (though 16gb is quite a bit)
Overall this is a fantastic phone with a few minor issues that I would change. If only I could fit everything I wanted into a nicely sized phone!

I love this phone. It is very easy to use and has all the features that I love. Speaker volume is loud enough, screen size is not too big and not too small, it can play movies and I always love a phone that is not programmed with the phone companies extra programs that you can't remove. This is a blank slate! Love it!

Perfect Phone...For Me

Beware of reviews from people who do not own this phone!
I actually own the phone and I like it a lot. The fact that it is unlocked and can be bought outright is huge for me.
First of all, it is a great phone. It is a great PDA, and syncs up very well with your gmail account, as you might imagine. It is an okay GPS: not as good as a dedicated unit, but workable in most instances.
Battery life is okay. The largest single drain on the battery is the display, by far. If you are fiddling with the phone all day, as you will when you first get the phone, it will not last all day. Once life gets back to normal, you will be fine. Expect to charge a smartphone every day.
Some of the supposed faults are not too critical, in my opinion.
*No SD slot: Concerned me at first, but, in practice, 16GB is more than enough for me.
*Physical keyboard: At first, I really missed this, my last phone being a blackberry. Then I tried Swype.
* No 4G. At this point, some carriers are struggling to provide 3G service ;-). This may be a factor later.
* No LED. Installed EasyNotify and you get reminder beeps. Better than a LED.
The Zagg screen protector is a must. The Platinum case is pretty good, but doubtless there will be better ones later.

iPhone OS Still > Android

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This is a very good phone. However, for me, the operating system is the most important feature of any smartphone. I find that Android's usability, while improving, still leaves a lot to be desired and that iPhone's OS is still clearly superior.
Just a few of the thing I feel need improvement:
- UI controls are sometimes difficult to see. For example, go outside in daylight, select the camera, and look for the adjustment controls. I find both these and the four basic Andriod buttons at the bottom of the phone are nearly impossible to see in daylight.
- The Market is not very well organized for browsing. It has too few categories (or maybe too few subcategories) and too many different things mixed in the same one. For example, look in Media & Video. Ringtones, audio players, photo editors, and no telling what else all lumped together.
- Google search is a poor alternative to browsing in the Market. I found no way to exclude unwanted apps. For example, search for "photo editor". A huge percentage of the apps listed were "J-Girls", short for "Japanese Girls"... definitely not photo editing apps.
- Lastly... many areas of the UI have far too much text.
To be clear, I have no regrets about buying the phone. I found the screen, audio quality, and camera are all great - competitive with other phones. It's Andriod that lead me to take a star away from the review (two felt like too many). I'm sure Google will continue to improve Android. I look forward to it. Just don't expect this phone to blow you away.

Actually, my son and I both purchased a Nexus S and we were both using Vibrant's prior to this and I also have a Nexus One which I love. We knew the screen would be amazing as was the speed of the device, but outside of that Gingerbread was a letdown for us. After about 2 weeks of use we realized that it was nothing more than a slightly upgraded Vibrant and we returned them on day 28. Both of us are very disappointed with the way that Samsung handled the update to 2.2 for the Vibrant and we can't believe the GPS issue hasn't been fixed yet and this played into our decision as well. If you want a phone with the best screen, super fast processor & pure Google this is the phone for you.

Good phone, but iPhone is better

I decided to change to the Nexus S from my iPhone because I'm with T-mobile and can't get 3G/4G speed on my iPhone.
After having the phone for a couple of months, I've concluded that I definitely like the iPhone better.
Here's a few of the things that I've compared between the two:
Network - Nexus S is superior on T-mobile. This is a no brainer since the iPhone can only connect on edge on T-mobile's network. However, I lose network connection fairly frequently and the only way to correct it is to turn the phone off and back on, quite annoying.
Apps - iPhone apps are far superior, BY A LOT. I'm comparing the exact same apps on both phones. They are just more clean and smooth on the iPhone.
Graphics - Even, I know the Nexus is supposed to be better, but I don't really see a difference.
Pros on the Nexus - flash, fast internet, Google integration
Pros on the iPhone - cleaner, better ease of use
The Nexus feels cheap, probably Samsung's fault. It's nice that it's light, but it's basically pure plastic. It's a good phone, but just not in the same ballpark as the iPhone. If I could get flash and 3G speed on my iPhone it would be complete. The battery life is the same as my iPhone so not great thing there either.

I've only played with the Nexus S for a few hours. Seems super speedy compared to Android 2.2 handsets like the Droid X that I also own. To me the 4" display is the perfect size for a smartphone. the 4.3" display makes a Droid X a bit too large. The display does seem a little yellow & not as good color-wise as a Super AMOLED should be. The touch screen features work great, better then any touch screen phone I've had.
Pros-
-Pure Android, no carrier or manufacturer front-end to mess with the OS
-FAST!
-Perfect size/form factor
-Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Cons-
-No SD card slot (but 16GB onboard, probably enough)
-Display color isn't as true as other phones
-Lack of 4G may be for some users (I'm not in any carriers 4G area)
-Stuck with one carrier (I'm in weak a T-Moblie coverage area & would be hard pressed to use it as my primary phone do to lack of coverage

Wanted a new Android phone, but not want to move into a new phone plan with my Sprint carrier, so when I saw the Google offer for a free Android phone and that I could choose my carrier (wanted T-Mobile), I was thrilled.
Have had this phone since August 18th, 2011, so from the date of writing this review, it is about 5 weeks now and I haven't had one problem yet with this phone. I had downloaded many apps successfully and quite fast I must say compared to my Touch Pro 2 from Sprint.
I love the ability to speak to my phone for all sorts of tasks...from dialing numbers, speaking addresses for Google Navigation, Google Web searches and even typing my text messages. This phone is a joy. I would highly recommend this phone for updating into a Android device.

The phone is nice but there are couple of things that were left out and will be impossible for even updates to make them work or make them available on the phone. This phone is a big competition for the iphone which I don't like. I think it is the best phone on the market or next to the Mytouch 4G. Samsung should have known better. In other to compete, you have to come very strong against others on the market. I side lined my motorola cliq, and the acount I had with T-mobile for six years just for this phone because I was not qualify for the discount price of $199.99, even though I still carried my number over to the new account. I don't know if Google and samsung can come up with an update that can make the phone to have an LED through the phone front camera? That's only way I think it will ever have LED. That will requires more battery drainage. Coming up with a better shell, case and batteries will be nice as well. But I am more than satisfied for now. The video chat app that comes with this phone does not work, so don't bother video chatting. The App only works on three phones(HTC Mytouch 4G, HTC Evo 4G, and samsung epic) as of today's date.

The phone is thin and light. It is my first Android phone so I don't have anything to compare it against. The OS is fast. The T-mobile service is great. No dropped calls. I get 3G coverage almost everywhere. This phone can't get 4G speed, but that's not a big deal IMHO. Get a cover to protect the beautiful and bright screen and shiny body. I wish the battery lasted longer.
