Best smart phone out there - for most users

I've had many Pixel phones and the Nexus 5 that came before. My last phone was a Pixel 3XL so I'm used to the top of the line flagship - fast, great camera, great display. But this time I decided to go small and affordable and darn if it wasn't a great decision! I'm really happy with the phone so far.   Pros The battery life is WAY better that the Pixel 3XL and I've heard it's much better than the Pixel 4. Nice to have a one handed phone again! The pics I've taken have been very good - can't tell and difference in quality from my Pixel 3 pictures.    The screen is sharp and colors bright. It's much, much lighter than the heavy phones I've had in the past.   Pixels come with Android updates right away and don't come with all that Samsung or other manufacturer junk installed. And Google Pixel's call screening service ROCKS! Google it.   Not pros No wireless charging. If this is something you need give this one a pass. Water resistant but not waterproof. Not 5G. I personally could give two hoots about 5G, my speeds are fast as they are and I sure don't need to pay the mmWave tax for Verizon that makes the Pixel 5 cost too much. Only 1 size, no XL.  Plastic back. Mine is hidden by my case so I don't care what it looks like and to me it doesn't feel cheaply made. Slower processor than Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. Moving up from a Pixel 3 I have noticed no difference, even though the 3 is faster I can't really tell in normal daily use. If you're a heavy gamer or watch a ton of streaming it might show the difference. Best part, the price for an unlocked Pixel is only $349, such a great deal compared to how much more I paid for the Pixel 3XL only two years ago.

First things first, this is not a flagship phone. If that bothers you, look elsewhere. But if you want a phone that performs fluidly, is powerful, has a battery that lasts over a day (sometimes multiple full days), gets Android updates fast, and is completely free of any kind of skin on the OS to cause issues… this is your phone. For $250 brand new, I can’t imagine you could beat this deal. Honestly, the only downside to this device is coming from a flagship… but even then, while it’s easy to tell the difference in capabilities of this phone versus my iPhone XS Max, I’ve yet to feel irritated or annoyed by any part of this experience [aside from third-party apps, but that’s not Google’s fault of course]. If you play a lot of games, especially graphically-intense ones, this probably won’t be your best option. Lucky for me… I don’t play mobile games. So I have no complaints there. For usual smartphone tasks (phone calls, texting and IM, email, social apps, streaming services, camera, web browser, music player, etc) the Google Pixel 4a does it all without issue — all in the first non-hideous hardware design the Pixel line has ever seen. I do recommend this phone. However, it’s also important to compare it with the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 when considering this purchase. The 4a 5G has a larger screen, better cameras, and other improvements… but it’s also twice the price. The 5 is even better, with better build quality and more features, but you could buy a 4a AND a 4a 5G for the same price, and it has a screen that is smaller than the 4a 5G for some reason. So in the end… it really comes down to what power and features you want versus what price you’re willing to pay. As a secondary device, my work phone… Pixel 4a doesn’t even come close to disappointing in any way.

Phone is working great so far. Runs fast and smoothly. Rear and front cameras are nice quality. All apps I need run great as well. No hiccups so far. Battery life is great. Like the smaller size as well. Was able to get it up and running same day. Plus it is a popular enough phone that cases and other accessories are easy to find. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a higher-end phone that is still decently affordable.

As usual, Google's newest mid-range smart phone is fantastic. The 4a has plenty of power, a great battery and a terrific camera. And the price is amazing. It's smaller than premium phones, which can be a plus. Easier to hold, yet big enough to enjoy videos on. I bought this for my teenager and because it's half the cost of premium phones, I don't worry about her dropping it. Couldn't be happier.

I got this as a gift and it's been a great phone. While being affordable is hits a lot of the sweet spots. The camera is good, the screen is good, and the speakers are pretty decent. It definitely has a less powerful processor but that's not an issue most of the time. The biggest downside is Google, who spies on everything you do on this phone.

This is arguably the best phone produced by Google so far. It almost seems like they were listening keenly to the feedback on the previous iterations of pixel phones. The camera is a given, as you can see from countless reviews raving about it; its absolutely true. But I felt the way it manages its battery is the best feature about this phone. Even the 'what's playing' song recognition feature is a cool one, and even more so because the phone is doing it by itself locally (probably using the Titan chip), without contacting google servers or sending the data to google. I found it struggling a bit with some of the less popular apps that I use for banking etc, but may be its something to do with the apps themselves (they used to work okay with my Samsung S8+ phone earlier though). I don't use my phone for gaming, so can't comment on that; some reviewers have commented on less than optimal performance in that department. However considering the cost of this phone, its unbelievable that you get so much out of this phone, and makes you wonder what google could do if they were to up their real flagship hardware game to the next level.

I exchanged this device for it's larger 5g counterpart shortly after purchasing it, but that doesn't change the fact that this is an absolutely amazing phone. For as low as $300, the value on this device is almost unparalleled. The software and cameras are the best I've ever used on a phone, and are identical to the $700 pixel 5. Furthermore, this device supports and comes with 18-watt fast charging and includes a headphone jack and really well-placed rear fingerprint scanner to boot. It runs just fine as long as you're not doing very heavy gaming, as it's using the snapdragon 730. The battery life is solid, with a 3080 (might be 3180) mAh cell that is well optimized by google. Furthermore, the small screen and slower processor make this phone consume very small amounts of power, so it's not that easy to kill in a day. Overall, I'd recommend this phone very highly for its price. The only reason why I would advise not getting this phone is if you don't like the small screen, but even that can be a pro for some. Hope this helps your decision making.

The value offered by this phone is unmatched. $350 for best in class camera (night shot and astrophotography are game changing) wrapped in a polycarbonate case reminiscent of Lumia phones from a few years ago. Sturdier build than most people think and it won't crack on a drop like a glass phone. I don't have to baby this phone and the fear of breaking it is lessened when I can buy two of these phones for less than the price of some mid-tier phones. Also, overall form factor is usable for one hand operation while still getting the most out of a very minimal, bright screen. Some downsides, no IP rating is a bummer. Really wish it had some water protection. Leave adaptive brightness on, as annoying as it is, but constantly change it in the early periods of using the phone and it will eventually learn your preference. I think it takes a bit longer to get it right but you can't achieve maximum outdoor brightness without it on. Sliding it to the max is still not the max apparently.

For the price, you cannot beat this phone. Stick android with 3 years of updates, and even though it is a single camera on the back...it performs better than any other android camera I've seen and used. Battery life is great and the size is perfect for one-handed use. No regrets

I purchased an open item 64gb Pixel 4 XL first. Once my Pixel 4a arrived, I used it for the day to compare before my Pixel 4 XL return period ended. All of the same features, half the price of a open item Pixel 4 XL. It was no brainer. Also because of Covid-19, the fingerprint scanner was faster and more convenient than using the face unlock. Sure the processor isn't the fastest possible on paper, but on actual performance, i have yet to see a hiccup. really happy with this purchase. Aside from my Pixel Buds 2, this was probably the second best piece of tech i have purchased this year when it comes to value per dollar. Save yourself a few hundred, go for the 4a.

Not that you should trust my opinion since my old phone was a used Galaxy S4 that's been running out of room so long I was forced to finally get something new but so far I love the Pixel 4a. From the fingerprint security to the wonderful camera (all the reviews for the camera were what made me choose this phone) I'm a happy camper. And the size and weight are perfect too. I almost forget I'm carrying it. I looked at a lot of comparisons for the iPhones and Samsungs etc. before choosing this phone and they all seemed to say if you're not really needing all the extra bells and whistles (which I'm not) and want a great camera for a really decent price, this is the one.

As an android fan, I decided to move from my Motorola to the famous pixel and all I can say is that this has been a very smart decision. I didn't notice how tired I was of having a very big phone until I had the Pixel 4a in my hands and saw how good it fits. Besides, the camera is great. It doesn't matter where I am or the lighting conditions, I'm always able to take a very good photo. I haven't noticed any lag with this phone. I would definitely recommend the Pixel 4a to those who want: 1. One of the best cameras in a phone at the present time. 2. A phone with a more ergonomic size. 3. Good quality for less than 400 dlls!

I've been using the Pixel 4a for a couple of months and so far it has been great. My needs are fairly basic, and this phone definitely handles all of that well, but it's got a bunch of other features that are cool & I'm still learning. I have small hands so the size is perfect, it's light weight, screen is clear & easy to navigate (a little extra sensitive to swiping, but I'm learning how to control that better). Call quality has been pretty good (I've had a few issues with calls dropping/texts not sending, but I think that was b/c of location and me not maximizing what I needed to do for my network). Based on my basic usage, battery lasts at least 24hrs. Photos & video are both good.

This phone is MUCH better than the Pixel 3 it replaced. I think the 6gig RAM has much to do with that. It works very well with Android 10 and 11 and the camera is simply amazing. I don't miss wireless charging because I plug in for Android Auto and the battery life is excellent. It also charges very quickly. I never use my phones under water, either, so the lack of an IPX rating doesn't bug me, either. The screen is excellent and Android 11 is, as well. I bought a cheap cloth case and a screen protector. I also have a Garmin Fenix 5x watch that cost more than the phone and it works perfectly with it. I got the watch and phone for about what I would have paid for just a flagship phone from another brand. This phone is just the most bang for the buck on the market.

Switched to this phone from Samsung Galaxy... I was skeptical, but fell on love. Pixel is easy to use, has intuitive features, and a wonderful camera. I will never again pay for one of the more popular flagship phones of the big cell manufacturers again! Google Pixel all the way. I will say that my Pixel 7 disappointed me. The camera didn't seem as good and it started opening all sorts of random apps and making calls when I wasn't attempting to use it. Maybe I had a lemon. Overall, however, I would still choose Pixel over the others anyday.

This phone was recommended by my brother because of the camera. I debated about getting it at first because I was thinking about getting the new iPhone SE but when I compared price tags and found the Google Pixel 4A to be cheaper even after Tax added on. So being desperate for a new phone I ordered it and when I got it I couldn't put it down after discovering the benefits of this phone and the stuff that makes this budget phone seem more like a flagship phone. I highly recommend this phone to anyone looking to save money and getting more then their money's worth.

I am upgrading from a Pixel 1 and have found the 4a Pixel to deliver the basic Android experience I am looking for. The transfer from my old Pixel to the new 4a was quick and simple with one cable from phone to phone. As an inhabitant of the Google universe the Pixel 4a is a logical choice for me. From it's stock Android look to the automatic updates from Google it is all easy and familiar. The display quality, speed of operation and ease of use are exactly what I want in an Android phone and at $350 unlocked the price is very good for the performance that you get. Also getting 2 days of battery life from a single charge is great as well.
