Very impressive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thoughts on the Pixel XL: First and foremost - this phone is fast. I have no specific speed tests, but individual pictures within Google Photos load faster than I have ever seen them before. The screen is very responsive and “zippy” - much faster than I have ever seen an Android phone perform. The screen is nice - visually comparable to the other high end offerings. Games, YouTube and Netflix are all as wonderful as you would expect and sounded very nice. The cameras were fine. I didn’t see a difference between pictures shot with the pixel as compared to other similar phone offerings. Also as expected, the Pixel is very Google App (G-Suite) centric. Certainly not a problem for me as most of my life revolves around Google technology. My negatives on the phone are few. 1) I hate the stock keyboard. I found the keys too close together, even on the XL 2) I am not sure I’ll ever get used to the home button / fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. I have not yet tried the Pixel XL with a case, but have to believe dealing with a cutout will be annoying. 3) Aesthetically, the phone is “blah.” It looks like a dulled down version of every other smartphone available today. In summary - if you are looking for an Android based device, this would be my first choice. I look forward to the future of the Pixel.

Poor Design, missed the iPhone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did a lot of research of the phone, liked the reviews. But when I got the phone itself I felt the design was poor. Going from iPhone to Pixel, thought it was a very more high tech phone. If your an iPhone lover, stick to the iPhone.

Sleek Android powered cellphone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the way the phone was packaged. All cables and chargers neatly wrapped. The unit quickly charged with the new fast charger. Set up was easily done with one call to my Verizon operator. I love the location of the rear facing 12-MP camera. Easily switch to the front camera with a touch of the icon on the lower corner screen. Since I only use 12-GB on my old phone, the PIXEL XL's 32-GB should work great without any extra SD-memory cards. The fingerprint button is on the back making using it easier and less cumbersome if it had been located on the bottom front. The sound is okay from the speakers, and there is still the top located headphone jack. And did I mention the "Okay Google" assistant.

A cool alternative for Samsung/iPhone fans
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google's new Pixel XL phone is a refreshing alternative in a market that has become oversaturated with Apple and Samsung products. One of the frustrating things about being a technology consumer these days has been the lack of choices among smartphone handsets. It seems as if at every turn we are only confronted with incremental updates from Apple and Samsung and offered very few new alternatives. In this respect, the Google Pixel XL was a godsend. Google's new Pixel XL comes with the latest, greatest version of the Android operating system. The hardware and software fit hand-in-glove. The processor is more than capable for all the tasks I threw at this phone. The cameras are good (I have seen better, but not very often). The things I like about this phone include the simplified user interface, the elegant design, and the premium feel of the device. I think it's important to note that I have never been an Android user when it comes to smartphones and tablets. I have always been more comfortable with the features of Apple's iOS. That is not to say I haven't tried other Android phones before, but this is the first time that I have tried one that I would actually consider keeping. This is a great crossover phone for those interested in migrating from Apple's territory to an Android device. One feature that stands out has been the voice-to-text functionality. With the simple command of "Ok Google" I can get voice recognition on almost all services available on the device. This includes calling, texting, and performing internet search. In my humble opinion, Google executes this better than Apple does with Siri. My previous experience with Siri is that it is only about 65% accurate. On my iPhone I constantly find myself having to manually correct text messages that have been unnecessarily corrected by Siri. For me it was really important for them to get this right if the Google Pixel XL were to compete with the iPhone. Call quality was great even with very few bars on Verizon's 4G LTE network. The speaker is loud and clear. And the phone has almost no design flaws. On the back of the phone there is a biometric sensor that one might use to unlock their phone using their index finger if they chose to do so. In terms of negatives or room for improvement: the Google Pixel XL could offer an all metal enclosure instead of hard plastic. If you are not familiar with Android you will definitely have a slight learning curve. The phone seems durable enough, (although I have not dropped it yet). I've had a hard time finding cases for the phone because it's still a new entry in this competitive smartphone market. Unfortunately, this phone is only available to purchase through Verizon. In summary, the Google Pixel XL is a great phone and a welcome entry to a market previously dominated by Apple and Samsung. With the recent downfall of BlackBerry and the lack of competition from Microsoft it's nice to see what Google has brought to the table. There's a lot to love about this phone: the speed, the clean interface, the camera, and the svelte hardware...they all add up to a very attractive package. If you're like me and you've been a loyal Apple fan for many years, this just might be the product that would make you consider switching to the other side.

Stunning Phone for Android Lovers
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to be able to use the Pixel phone after it was announced. I have the Pixel C tablet and the Nougat operating system finally is on par from a performance standpoint with iOS. In a nutshell, I was not disappointed. This phone is easily one of the best three Andriod phones available today (I have tried several). The screen is beautiful and rich color. The performance is amazing and every is very responsive and snappy. The build is solid and feel premium. Probably the one thing I like best is it being a Google phone is it will get updates as soon as they are announced by Google. Many Android manufacturers take months to get updates out but with the Pixel line, you will get the latest features and benefits right away. If you are looking for a new Android based handset, its hard to pass this one up.

Best Android Phone available right now
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is for the 32GB version of Google Pixel XL in quite silver. The Pixel is Google first take to provide an end to end phone by designing both the hardware and the software and it doesn’t disappoint you one bit! The phone comes packed with so many features that blows away all the competition. The phone looks gorgeous and very sleek to look at. I love the two tone designing at the back for the quite silver model. The fingerprint reader at the back also is more convenient then the readers at the front and has the added functionality of using it as a way to look at the notification drawer. The screen size of 5.5 is a tad bigger for my liking but the quality is really good with the AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with corning gorilla glass 4 protection. The resolution is 1080 x 1920 and in bright sunlight, it is a bit difficult to look at the screen. Otherwise it works great indoors and colors are very deep and rich. The phone has a lot of power with the latest quadcore Snapdradragon 821 processor clocking at 2.15GHz and 4 GB of ram. I didn’t face any snags in using the phone and I tried all the major apps like Google Maps, Facebook, Whatsapp and Skype. Even when all these apps were running simultaneously I didn’t face any problems and the phone was able to switch between the apps seamlessly. The phone has a 12.3 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and the camera has been given the highest score by DxoMark ( the industry standard in comparing lenses and cameras). I found that it was the camera app which really is the difference. The app opens up really fast and there are tons of options like lens blur etc. In my testing the camera was able to take really good photos even in low light. The phone comes with Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box and introduces us to the Google assistant. The Google assistant provides the vast Google database searchable at your fingertips. You can interact with it and it’s a back and forth conversation. I haven’t come across smarter AI yet. The voice recognition is really good and the phone almost always knew what I was saying. Another very useful feature is that the phone comes with a dongle which you attach to your existing phone and lets you transfer everything very quickly and smoothly. Basically the new phone becomes easy to set up in less than 5 min. The only drawback to the phone is its price. The one plus 3 does look like a very very good alternative at only $400 and essentially the same hardware but you will not get the ‘pure’ android experience. However if price is an issue then OP3 is definitely an option. However with VR ready hardware, this phone is definitely the phone for the future (2017) and OP3 is the phone for the present (2016).

Not bad, but could be so much better
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me first state that I am more of an Apple fan than Android, so I tried not to be biased when putting down my iPhone 7 plus for a couple of days to try out the Google Pixel XL. I like the sleek silver finish, it booted up pretty fast and takes great photos. It took some getting used to the fingerprint reader on the back of it versus the front home button that I am used to but it worked quickly and was easier to program than the Touch ID on my iPhone. Fortunately my phone didn't come with all of the bloatware that is customary with Android OS, so I was happy I only had to delete a few apps. It came with a cable and easy method to transfer all of my contacts and such from my iPhone so I was pleasantly surprised about that. I have one of the now hard to find unlimited data plans from Verizon so it wasn't easy to get it up and running by just putting the sim card in and powering it on, but I persevered. The tethering feature was lost once I switched to the Pixel, but after doing some online search, I found a way to work around having Verizon activate some feature they wanted and extra $30/month to enable the feature. The haptic feedback is better on the Pixel than my iPhone so that was a pleasant surprise. I love the USB-C charging cable it comes with. It charges relatively fast and comes with another USB cable to plug it into my laptop. The Google Assistant is slightly better than Siri, but I am still learning the ins and outs of Android, so I may find that it is actually better. The phone overall isn't bad, but not worth the $750 they are charging for it. It doesn't have the option of adding an SD card like most Android OS phones, although you can buy the larger 128gb phone for an extra $100 or you can upload things to Google Drive which includes 15gb or unlimited storage for photos and videos. My signal also seems to be weaker with this phone than my iPhone. Overall, I like the phone, but for the money, I would go an iPhone 7 Plus in 128gb for the same price. As I said, I am new to Android so my review is based on my short time with the phone and possibly not knowing all of the features Android has to offer.

Zero moisture resistance
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For starters, I miss my Galaxy. Grabbed this phone with a small amount of water on my hand and everything stops. Was never told that this phone could not sustain any amount of water. Salesman was more than happy to talk about my son's Galaxy phone and it's great water resistance. Asked to trade out but was told it was damaged and couldn't be returned... after less than ten days. Good note, camera was great.

Pixel XL - a really good cell phone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently retired my Samsung Note 4 after more than 2 years of use. I had expected to replace it with a Note 7, but alas that did not happen. My Note 4, which I used more daily than my home computer, was my go-to technology. After the Note 4 received its Marshmallow update, battery life went bad quickly, and that was the impetus to look for a new phone. I saw some great ratings for the Pixel XL, and the phone's specs (and camera) looked really good. I've had the phone for about a week and I'm very impressed! The screen is great, much more so than the Note 4. The Note 4's screen would get completely washed out when in direct sunlight. iPhones have a great reputation for being readable in direct sunlight, and my Pixel easily matches my wife's new iPhone 7 when outdoors. Even more exciting is the Pixel's battery life. Yesterday, for example, I turned the Pixel on at 7am, made two hour-long phone calls throughout the day, used the Pixel to listen to about 90 minutes of an Audible book, browsed the internet, and more, and by 7pm - 12 hours after turning the Pixel on - I still have 70% of battery remaining. I've played with the camera a bit to test it out, and I can attest to burst mode being really fast. Just hold down the shutter button and watch out. It appears to take 8-9 shots every second. That's fast considering that it's in HDR+ mode. If you do that, it'll stitch the photos together to make a live-gif, which I thought was pretty cool., Still, I'll need to do more playing to see how the camera performs in real life situations. Call quality is very good, in case you're wondering. After all, it is a phone, right. :) And, the Pixel doesn't have the bloatware that typically comes with Samsung phones. The fingerprint scanner is on the back. I wasn't sure how I'd like it, but in just a week it's second nature picking up the phone and placing a finger on the scanner. It only requires a slight touch to the scanner and the Pixel's screen turns on. Very, very quick, and infinitely better than what the Note 4 offered. That's it for now. I hope this has been helpful. I'll try to provide an updated review several months down the road to see how well it's performed in that time.

Best Phone I have ever used...Period!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am ecstatic about this phone, I cannot get enough of it. The phone is beyond smooth and has so many features compared to the older Android devices. The hardware and software work so perfect together. The Pixel XL comes with Nougat 7.1, the absolutely best Android OS ever, period. The integration with apps and their notifications are just flawless. The stock customization is way more than I ever expected to happen from Google. There is no reason to run another launcher or root this phone. The hardware is again, amazing. The screen is much better than the Note 5 or S7. The Camera lives up to the hype, period. Low light still outperforms my Note 5 and S7. The fingerprint scanner works flawlessly and you can also set it to open the notifications by swiping down on the scanner, nice touch Google. The shape of the Pixel was very well thought out, it fits so well in my hand. The included apps and Verizon apps are not over done like in the past, very minimal stuff installed to show it down. The keyboard is also just perfect, the predictable text is the best yet. Google's new assistant is neat, I find myself using it more and more. There are so many features about this phone all I can say is you have to try it for yourself, heck, buy one now! Wifi and Cell signal is great with the Pixel as well, I have the same service as my wife's Note 5 and I get better signal in wifi and data with the Pixel. I can't even think of everything that there is about the Pixel, there is so much.

Best Device Yet!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What can I say other than this thing is a rocket! It's incredibly fast and responsive. Opening apps and task switching is a dream. There's a reason I've stuck with the Nexus platform, and now that it's Pixel I really see no difference in that quality. When you want an Android device devoid of bloatware and shoddy frontends that kill your battery life and performance go with Nexus/Pixel. So far my battery life has been quite good. I'm seeing about 20% battery drain over 8 hours. According to the battery graph I could get somewhere around 1 to 1.5 days of use on a charge. I think realistically I'll see around 19 hours of real everyday use. The display is simply amazing. The sharpness and colors are fantastic. The pixel density is better than anything Apple is putting on the market right now. The features of Android 7.1 on a Pixel device are quite nice. I'm seeing an introduction of a lot of the things that made Windows Phone great come to fruition on Pixel. In terms of where Apple is...well they seem to constantly be playing catch up with Android in terms of features and functionality. In terms of device size. It seems they are tracking backwards on sizing. We're down to 5.5 on the XL from 5.7 on the 6P, and 6 on the Nexus 6. I wasn't sure I'd appreciate the downsize, and many users may still prefer the larger size. But I'm finding I really like the rounded edges and slightly smaller build. It makes the device feel a lot more solid than the 6P and easier to hold and use 1-handed. I can say with certainty that it's also got a lot better grip to it, meaning I don't quite feel like I am going to drop it all the time like I did with my 6P. Lastly, this device is being marketed as a Verizon exclusive. I can confirm that the device is in fact carrier unlocked and you'll have no trouble at all using it on AT&T. I popped my AT&T sim in and right away was using LTE with ease. This phone is excellent and if you're a dedicated Android user there's no better device right now on the platform. What are you waiting for?! Go get one now!!

Google hit a home run.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only having a short time to be able to review it I have to be pretty brief. The screen is brilliant, bright easy to read on. The phone is a perfectly sized for my largish hands as well. The camera is also very stellar, takes great low light pictures, better than the LG G4 which also has a fantastic camera. The speed and fluidity of the phone is fantastic. This thing is so fast you will feel slow using it lol. The Snapdragon 821 is no joke and the Adreno GPU make a fantastic pair to play games on. The Epic Games benchmark ran really well but the 3dMark test on OpenGL ES3.1 only averaged around 15fps. Definitely no Tegra GPU like in my Shield Tablet, but it should be plenty for most people who do some less demanding 3d gaming. The network speed support is also very good. Wirelessly I was able to saturate my network speed of around 200Mbps. Verizon Speeds were also great and consistent as they are typically around 60-150Mbps in this area. Only drawback I can really see is not having removal battery or a microsd slot. Other than that I can really find any con's on this. Overall, it's a fantastic device and am sure it will please for for several years.
