This new Google Media Streamer is definitely snappier. Noticably les lag with opening apps and typing in text at login screens. The find remote feature is very nice. Like it very much. The table top box vs Chromecast dongle is less space friendly. That does allow for for a LAN port to be included so your are not limited to Wifi only. Overall, this is a good unit. I would definitely buy it when a new one is needed. However, the differences between this unit and the Chromecast Ultra are not amazing. I did not feel dazzled by the upgrade. So definitely buy this when you need a new unit, but if you are thinking about replacing your Ultras with this unit... It's not a significant enough upgrade to justify the cost, in my opinion.

I have been an Android/Google user for years. However, about three years ago, I decided to try Apple (phone, watch, and Apple TV 4K). Loved the seamless integration, but missed getting to do what I wanted with the OS of Android. So went back and all in.
I purchased the Streamer 4K and found the picture to be dull compared to the Apple. I turned off the auto picture setting and the picture got better, but still not as good as the Apple; Not as vibrant and didn't really see the same quality HDR range. Also, there is an annoying glitch that hasn't been corrected with an update. The picture will flash off randomly and when it comes back, there is no sound. This requires a reboot and all is well for a while and happens again. Also, the screen is cluttered with all of the viewing suggestions, continue watching and rows & rows of things. This can be cleaned up with the apps only mode, which just shows your installed apps and is much better. One reason I purchased this was to get the ability of the Home function and view my cameras, thermostat and doorbell. Well, you can adjust the temperature on the Nest thermostat, but you can only view your cameras live; You cannot go to events, which is disapointing. Now, the thing that is really bewildering...The Home function is not an app, but you access it in the control panel section. When you switch to the more enjoyable apps only mode, the Home function disappears from the control panel. These are two separate and non related functions and it makes no sense. Sure, it seems this may be taken care of in a future update and hopefully the ability to view camera events, but seems more likely Google is trying to force more advertising on you and wants you to not use the apps only mode.
Well, the current state of the streamer isn't doing it for me. If I had it first, I probably wouldn't have an issue, or know any better. But for now, I have disconnected it and gone back to my Apple TV 4K and am enjoying a better quality experience....Even without any other Apple products. I will reconnect it in the future and see what plays out with hopefully sooner, rather than later software updates. One thing I do like better about the Google is using the remote. Just wish it was rechargable.
I would recommend it, depending on your needs/wants. I like it better than Roku.

The Google TV Streamer (4K) Porcelain works extremely well. I especially like that the control box can be accessed easily and the revised remote are user friendly.

Have used a Chromecast for many years and liked it just fine. But now that I've used this new Google TV Streamer, I can tell you I'm now spoiled by it. The speed of loading and switching between different applications and features is hard to beat. App load times, switching between apps, and pretty much everything else is enhanced. Same look and feel, menus, and most everything else.
The remote is nice. They moved the volume buttons to the face of the remote and made it longer. No problem with it...I think I preferred the buttons on the side through.
An important requirement for me was the ability to use the Chromecast remotes with this unit. That works just fine. You can pair your older Chromecast remotes with this easily. I like having two remotes...one for me and one for the wifey...saves some headaches and that eventual question "Where's the remote?!?"
OH - the new remote has a "find me" feature so you can hit a button on the streamer and the remote becomes a screamer.

The best thing that I brought. Ive had the previous chromecast for over 8 years and it finally broke. I went to best buy and got this in the same day. This version of chromecast has lightning speed and easy to use. Has everything you can think of. This is a Must buy in my book.

Extremely intuitive and easy to use. No hands free voice assistant, but the remote has it, and it has a find my remote function! Interface is fast and smooth with every streaming service you can imagine! The ethernet port is a huge plus as well! Setup is a breeze, especially since it's synced with your Google account!

I ended up purchasing this product for my Mom who got that JME subscription when TV Japan ended their broadcast on AT&T UVerse. Since our Samsung TV still does not that app, it was so cumbersome to stream it from a phone or tablet. So this devices solves all your problems. I also used it for NBA app as well since Samsung TV does not have that either. Another great feature is watching YouTube videos on it, this device renders the videos really pretty and you can search for items with the intuitive remote that it is packaged with. Setup is a snap, and it automatically imports all your Google settings if you choose to do so.

The Google TV Streamer (4K) is awesome! Super easy to set up, and it looks good, too—the white color doesn’t stand out too much, so it blends in. The picture quality is really sharp, and using Google Assistant to find stuff saves so much time. The remote was a bit weird at first, but now it feels natural. I love how everything’s organized on the screen; all my shows, apps, and recommendations are easy to find. If you’re looking for a simple, good-quality streaming upgrade, this one’s worth it!

This was a welcome upgrade for the Chromecast lineup. I had the previous Google TV with Chromecast 4K that came out a couple years ago and while that's still worked and did everything that I needed to do, this device does that but perfects it to a tee. Few if you were looking for a streaming device it doesn't break the bank this one is perfect for you from the redesigned remote to the new features offered this is a great device

At first i wast sure if it would be worth it or if it was really an upgrade other than more memory and a faster processor. I will say this. It was way better in every aspect. I was upset at first becasue it did not come with an HDMI cable but bought one anyway and its works great. Faster, and clearer Sharper. So yes i love it.

Solid upgrade to Chromecast, and a wonderful new Google TV streaming device. Google TV is starting to get a little loaded with lots of ads and promoted content, but it's still an A+ streaming setup, and I prefer it over others, and it plays well with Pixel devices. Be warned, no HDMI cable in the box. New remote is nice and easier to use, and harder to lose. Solid Google design and quality.

Works so much better than the previous versions. Zero issues whatsoever. And the free channels are great. Definitely the best out of the ones that are out there. I've had fire stick and Roku. This is by far the best and you don't get a million ads. Plus it keeps track of your watched so you can easily pickup where you left off.
