Customers frequently mention the ease of use, excellent coverage, and straightforward setup of the Google Wifi AC1200 system. Many also praise the improved signal strength and extended range, resulting in better overall performance. While some users experienced connectivity challenges, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs these concerns. A few customers noted the system's higher price point.

Fast, simple setup -- works perfectly

These units are working great in my two story house with a basement study area. I had grown frustrated trying to keep my two 2010 vintage wi-fi routers working, and these turned out to be the perfect replacement. I love that my family can go throughout the house now, and not have to switch wi-fi networks anymore. The reach is impressive -- I still get a decent signal at my bus stop, which is 250 feet from the house.
The one trick is that you need an Android device or iPhone to initially set up the network; I had neither, so ended up enticing a friend to come over and do it with her phone (using the free Google WiFi app). But now that they're up and running, no config is needed, and they're running great. Highly recommended if you don't want to have to deal with WiFi woes.

This wifi system well addresses one or two important issues. First; there is no question that this Mesh network fixes dead spots and dropout zones. Second: it is simple to set up and requires that the user not have a hand in configuration. That is a thing I'm not too comfortable with, not least because I have run into a problem that I can't seem to find a way out of without technical assistance, which isn't readily available.
The packaging this system comes in is minimalist in style which directly reflects the relationship the user has with this device. I have to be honest - I love the smell of some plastic/electronic products when they are new - not unlike the "new car smell" - and I took a couple sniffs of this before getting down to business. There aren't too many ways to mess up getting the first unit plugged in and set up because you just pick one - any one - out of the box. Then simply open up the Google Wifi app and follow the steps: plug the modem in (this one will be the "primary point"), power it up, scan the code on the bottom, enter the information asked for, and wait until it is registered. Then place the next (a "mesh point"), power it up, and let the app find it, and do the third. You'll be prompted to test the network around this time. That's all there is to getting it up and running. All of my devices connected fine. The app controls all settings and it is particularly nice that each point is controlled separately. Each point's light can be dimmed or be made brighter and can be restarted independently of the others, and can be moved/removed through the app.
My problem is one that I can't identify - there is a persistent red light on the primary that indicates something is not right. I went through a complete reset with the same result. I've attempted to contact their tech help via email but no joy so far (about 10 hours). My network isn't quite as speedy as with my previous router, but it does work albeit with some dropped wifi (about 5 times now - never with my previous router). Also, I'm not accustomed to having no web interface and so few available settings, and this router runs the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands together so you can't choose which one you want for your devices - it is chosen for you. You can find which one each device is using within the app but that was not a nice surprise. At least there is a guest network available, and some basic IP, DNS, etc settings.
Pros: simple to set up; multiple points provide robust coverage for a space underserved by a single wifi point; WPA2-PSK encryption and built-in TPM; attractive and smells good :); independent controls for each point; decent length of power cord
Cons: this system is meant to operate on its own for the most part - not the right product for those who want or need to tinker and configure; no web interface; solutions to problems can seem frustratingly out of reach; no usb port; only 1 available LAN port on the primary point
Summary: if you have some bucks and hate messing around in the guts of your tech products, and if you like the aesthetics of this, and especially if you have a relatively large area or several rooms to cover with wifi, then I'd for sure recommend looking at this Google Wifi network. My 4 stars - "good but not great" - are a net value of positives and negatives with coverage and aesthetics weighted heavily. If I ever get my "red light" problem worked out in my favor it might be a "great" product.

I’ll start this off by saying I rarely write reviews but this was a must. We have suffered from slow internet speeds for years. We live on a corner lot and the shape of our 2650 sq ft home is much different than most. We had dead areas all over and we tried everything from moving routers to adding extenders. While this helped slightly, we could never get our speeds over 12 Mbps. We pay for 100 Mbps through Cox. We’ve constantly reset modems and routers with little to no help. Then I ran onto Google WiFi. I can’t begin to describe how easy the set up is. As soon as we had the 3 discs set in 3 different areas of the home and got everything connected it was a completely different experience. No more buffering on demand movies, no more dropped internet, no more lagging while streaming videos on iPads. We have a lot of devices connected to our network, from iPads to cell phones to Phillips Hue to computers to smart tv’s and more. I’ve constantly checked our speeds during the times when most devices are up and running and we have never been below 112 Mbps download speed. It is truly amazing. That alone should sell you but then the app that controls everything allows you to monitor and schedule screen time for your kiddos so it’s a win/win. If you’re debating on whether or not to spend the $, do it. It’s so worth it.

Very Poor performance. Very ineffective . The range is very low and the speeds you get from the router is 30% of the actual bandwidth.

Bought this system to extend the range of my wifi. My router is located in my basement and had really bad dead spots in my house. I couldn't even stream movies on my TV that is located above the router. I installed the system in about 15 min, and now I do not have any dead spots in the house and I get about 80-90Mbs. Before i was lucky to get 20Mbs.
It is very easy to set up as well. Make sure to use the app to set it up, it will make things much easier.

I bought this new google wifi product containing 3 mesh networking units as my family and I decided to finally cut the cable and only stream tv and online videos and shows. In order to do this my bare bones three year old belkin router that was not even capable of broadcasting in wireless n would have to go. We would be streaming PS Vue, netflix, hulu, and or other various videos on youtube and apps on at least two fire tv's at once, two more fire stick's, two smartphones, a computer, and an ipad. We upgraded our internet speed to 100mbps down and 10 up as well as bought a new cable modem that could handle this. Once I opened the box with the new router I could not believe how simple google had made it to hook it up and set up the network! Literally I took the main module, not that it mattered which unit I took out first since they all have the same amount of connections on them, opened up the google wifi app plugged the power cord into the wifi module hooked up the cable from my modem to the main wifi module, scanned the QR code when asked by the app to do so and I was up and running. It also asked me to name my network and setup a password but then literally it was up and running. It asked if there were other units to connect to the network and I said yes two more so it helped me get those set up as well. That literally was take the next unit out of the box with the power cable go one to two rooms down plug it into the outlet and place it in the open scan the qr code and voila its connected as a mesh network. Same thing with the last unit plug it in scan the QR code on the bottom of it in the google wifi app and literally you have a fantastic network in your house with very strong signals everywhere! If I were you I would definitely get this product!

DO your research before purchasing if you are in need of WiFi calling. Very sporadic coverage. Google is aware of the issue and will not apply a fix.

It took a bit to get the whole architecture of my system to work, but it had nothing to do with this Google Router/Mesh System.
I wanted a couple of RJ-45 ethernet ports in my house that are wired with CAT-6 cable to work, so at first, I installed a 5-port Switch right after my cable modem. That did not work. Neither the cable modem nor the 5-port switch has the ability to manage IP Addresses. The cable modem is a Netgear CM700. The 5-port switch is a Linksys SE3005V2.
So, I changed the architecture and installed the Primary Google Mesh Router as the first device after the cable modem and then connected the 5-port switch to the 2nd port on that Primary Google Mesh Router. Now all hard-wired RJ-45 Ethernet ports test at maximum speed and I am able to have a wired Ethernet connection to my TV and all RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the house are working as they should.
I am paying for 150 Mbps internet speed and when I test connection speeds using the Google WiFi app and another 3rd party app, my test results are in the 172 Mbps range. I get the same WiFi speed everywhere in my house as I do when I connect my PC directly to any of the hard-wired RJ-45 Ethernet ports. At these speeds, it made no difference if I used a CAT-5E or a CAT-6 patch cable. Both tested the same.
The setup of the Google Router/Mesh system was uneventful and easy.
