Easy to use, but, I had to upgrade firmware following easy go pro support site to be able to connect via wireless to other devices.. This assigned camera name and password. Unfortunate that no windows gopro editing software without windows 10. Using windows movie maker is adequate. Connects well with android phone and ipad and laptop. Great quality but often have to reduce to 1080 or 720 to edit on movie maker. Overall fun to use.

This camera was easy to use right out of the box. I also bought the chest harness that mounts easy to the GoPro. I’m happy with my purchase and regret not buying it sooner.

Works well underwater - the only thing I don't like is the fact you cant attach a float to the back of the camera for mounting on a surfboard.

We purchased this for a cruise we went on in August, where we would be doing a lot of snorkeling. This GoPro was the best thing we could have brought with us, next to sun screen!! The picture quality was amazing, as was the sound quality! So simple and easy to use! The size made it perfect for traveling, and we had so much fun looking back at the pictures and videos each night! The battery does get used quickly, but we brought 2 spares and a charger with us which was great! The camera is light weight too, making it easy to swim around while holding it! Definitely gave us some of the best picture and video memories to look back on!

I am using this camera in a specialized fixed application that uses the HDMI Output and provides power thru the USB input. Many of the features of a GoPro are not needed in this application, but GoPro image quality, flexibility, size, and light weight are very important.
The HDMI output of this camera feeds one of the inputs to a video switcher and ultimately to a projector in a large auditorium at a local Community College. The projected 12' x' 18' (1920 x 1080p) image is perfect. 4K would be nice, but the switcher and projector can only do 1080p. Any defects or artifacts in the image would be noticeable by the audience and therefore unacceptable.
Admittedly a Hero 7 Black might be better for critical applications, but this one is certainly worth considering if the superb image stabilization of the Hero 7 Black is not needed and the cost of the Hero 7 Black exceeds the budget. There are less expensive Action Cameras, I tried some. They might be OK for less demanding applications, but the problems I experienced with distracting artifacts in the projected images made them useless.

This was the perfect device for using when we went snorkeling. Didn’t even needvany further protective water proof casing. Great picture and video quality. Easy to learn and use. Will need some accessories like a wrist strap or bouy so you don’t risk losing it. It was a little finnicky with battery draining initially, but overall a good camera

I purchased this camera to document a white water rafting trip I was going on. It took great video and still photos and was easy to use once I figured out how to do it. The battery life could have been a little longer, luckily I purchased another battery for that reason.

A step up from my 5 year old HD camcorder

I have been using a Canon HD camcorder to record video for the last five years. I noticed that the edges of the video where somewhat blurry and the FOV wasn't very wide, even when fully zoomed out.
I purchased the HERO 2018 to replace that camcorder and I'm very happy that I did! The video coming out of this camera is much better, even though the bitrate is about the same as the Canon camcorder.
The only things that I don't REALLY like about this camera are as follows:
- You can't change FOV while recording - You have to set the FOV before you start recording and it is then fixed for that video
- Touch screen is "touchy" - It is a little too easy to accidentally hit select the wrong item or scroll when you want to tap... and often the touch isn't picked up at all. This isn't really a problem, though, since you can't change anything while the video is recording... it's just changing settings or viewing recorded clips. Actually, adjusting the volume during playback is probably the most difficult thing to do with this camera.
- Long startup time - Compared to my HERO Session 4, the startup time is MUCH longer. With the Session 4, I hit the record button and in about 2 sec the video is recording. The HERO 2018 takes, I'm estimating, about 4+ seconds to actually begin the recording. If you're aware of this, you can easily adjust for it by starting recordings a little earlier, but if you want to capture an unplanned event RIGHT NOW, you're going to miss a few seconds at the start.
- Microphone - The placement of (one of?) the microphones means that, if the camera is held by hand without a case, selfie stick, etc, your thumb or finger will likely cover up or move around the area where that microphone is. This resulted in a lot of muffled videos (when the mic was covered), volume changes within a video (as the thumb/finger are moved while holding the camera) or scratching/scraping sounds being recorded (again, from thumb/finger movement on the case). I solved this by using a tripod or selfie stick so that it is not necessary to touch or directly hold the camera while recording.
What I LOVE about this camera, though, is what makes me recommend it and happily continue to use it:
- FOV - The FOV of the Hero 2018 is excellent! Even when set to "Narrow", it is wider than the widest FOV of the Canon HD camcorder that it replaced! There's also "Medium" and "Wide" settings which, while creating a fisheye effect, allow you to place the camera on a tripod very close to the action and still capture it all! With my old camera, when set on a tripod, I had to place the camera so far away from the subject that other people didn't realize I was recording and would walk right in front of the camera, ruining the video.
- Weight - The Hero 2018 is much lighter than my old camcorder.
- Size - The Hero 2018 is much smaller than my old camcorder, esp since the old one had a swing out screen. The screen on the Hero 2018 is a little bigger (and much higher quality) than the old camcorder, but it's all in a tiny package!
- Ease of use - There aren't many things that you can set with this camera, which is good! Most of the default values record great videos. Changing settings is easy with the touch screen and really easy with the Android GoPro app! I love that you can do a live preview, too!
- Battery life (and replaceable batteries) - I have multiple batteries for my old camcorder and none of them lasted for more than about 30 total minutes of recording. I also have multiple batteries for the Hero 2018, but I've never needed more than one, even after recording about 60 minutes of video in one day. When I know that I'm going to take the camera with me, I do charge the battery the evening before, and I usually only record in 1-5 minute segments, FYI.
- Water resistant - I was always worried with my old camcorder about it getting wet. I do most of my video recording outside and I don't have a choice in the weather, so getting rained on is a very real, and all too common, situation. I've been pleasantly surprised that rain on the glass covering the camera sensor hasn't shown up in the recorded video! Yay!!!

Let me start off by saying this. Unless you have a GoPro that is older or of lower quality than the GoPro Hero 3 BLACK edition (i.e. Hero 3 silver, Hero 2, Hero...etc), and unless you have never bought an action camera before, DO NOT BUY THIS.
This camera is not worth an upgrade if you are coming from the Hero 3 Black and above. I owned the GoPro Hero+LCD and that thing, while being 4+ years OLDER than this camera, had more features than this camera. It has the same MP camera, same video modes, and picture modes. But it even LACKS some of the modes that the HERO+LCD had!!! Unfortunately, I do not remember what made it lacked specifically as I am writing this review late, and I no longer have either of these two cameras as the Hero+LCD broke and I returned this one. If you have the Hero 3 Black, or any of the Hero 4s or 5s and you're looking to upgrade......just get the 6 Black (or now even the 7). This thing was an actual down grade from my 4+ year old Hero+LCD and it had worse battery life. The only thing that it improved on was the audio. Surprisingly....this thing has better audio than the Hero 6 Black.
The only reason thing gets 3 stars is because.......its $150. And if (only if) you've never bought an action camera of any kind before, and are just getting into the market. This is great 1st time camera. Simple to use. Has the nice 1080p60fps framerates for your action lifestyle. If youre just looking to dip your feet into the action camera market, and don't want or care to spend too much for all the great features and simply just want a solid action camera. This is a good buy.
But if you are anyone else, and just even a tad more serious about your camera quality or are looking to upgrade an old GoPro. Skip this one. Spend the extra money and get one with the stabilization (Hero 6 or 7 Black).

Started flying this year and wanted to record my flight for training reference. Being new to GoPro and recording action videos for that matter I didn’t want to invest a ton of money to start. This GoPro was so easy to use and set up. Transferring video to PC for editing is a breeze. Have had no problems at all. Note to buyer: Make sure to pick up and SD card with the camera as it doesn’t come with one.

This model has all of the features you need in a GoPro without having anything extra or complicated. The video quality is perfect at 1080p and timelapses look great both indoor and outdoor. Connecting the camera to the GoPro app is quick and simple making video transfer easy. GoPro Quik stories can help a beginner pull together a quickly edited video from a day's worth of filming including music and cuts. Overall, really impressed with everything this camera offers for the price. Unless 4k or live streaming is something you need in an action camera, I would highly recommend this model.

I like the camera, great video and picture quality. But the only thing that bothers me is the battery life which is 2 hours as listed but dies in less time. Also i wish the usb charging port could be open while using it in my car as a dash-cam so it could be charge but you cant because it might over-heat the battery while running it.
Other than that, it is a great camera. I use it road trips and outdoor activities with friends.

I own a few other GoPro’s..With That being said..I love the image quality! And all it’s features..However the battery life is just awful and disappointing, even after reading the reviews about the battery life I went ahead and bought it,knowing that there was a chance I would be lucky enough to not have any issues with it..But I went kayaking and the battery was gone in less than 5 minutes !...I was shocked !...I love the cam but I wonder if the battery that came with it ...it’s just junk, that way you need to buy another one.i will try my luck buying yet another battery....I’d still recommend getting it..just be aware of the battery issues..

I bought this because I always wanted a GoPro and the price couldn't be beat. Especially since I was able to flash the system and make it a full Hero 5 Black.
I can't say enough good things about how well this thing just WORKS. Amazing quality and the batteries last a long time. I love that it has a screen and can be used underwater without a case. I've used it on many vacations and can't believe I ever lived without it!

Awesome clarity and sound compared to my older GoPro's. (Hero Plus). You really don't need a mic unless you are doing documentary stuff but other than that a lot of options. Very clear, easy to use. Battery has been great. If you have the older ones or looking to get your first one might as well get the 4k version. IN about a year I would imagine everything is 4K.

I bought this camera specifically for my anniversary trip to Jamaica with my husband. We knew we would be snorkeling and wanted to be able to video underwater. We were extremely pleased with how easy it is to use and with the quality of the video! Our kids also love taking videos underwater at the pool, so we will definitely get lots of enjoyment from this little camera! I'm so glad that we decided to purchase it and highly recommend it!

I like the quality and clear color pictures. It is not a great friendly user for a beginner. Sometimes it freezes and it’s bit difficult to switch from video to camera etc.
Great under water and a plus for being touch screen and voice command.
Does not work with an sd card higher than 32.
