Best action cam I’ve used

I’ve been using the GoPro Hero 13 mainly for surf sessions and hikes in Hawaii, and it’s exceeded my expectations. The image stabilization is next level — super smooth even when I’m riding waves or running. The 5.3K video looks sharp and crisp, and the colors are vibrant without needing much editing. The waterproofing is flawless, and the audio pickup is better than I expected for an action cam.
Battery life is solid, especially with the Enduro battery, and the quick capture feature makes it easy to use even mid-session. The only small downside is the app can be a little slow sometimes when transferring footage.
Overall, it’s the best GoPro I’ve owned — perfect for creators, athletes, or anyone who wants cinematic footage from their adventures.

The GoPro Hero 13 makes every moment feel epic. The 5.3K video is razor-sharp, the stabilization is butter-smooth, and the low-light shots look cinematic. It’s tough, waterproof, and has battery life that actually keeps up with the adventure. Whether I’m hiking, biking, or just chilling with friends, this camera turns everyday memories into movie scenes. Hands down the best GoPro yet.

GoPro Hero 13 Hits Home-Run with HB-Series Lens!

I thought the GoPro could not really get any better than the GoPro 12 and was not sure it was worth the upgrade. I WAS WRONG. The GoPro Hero 13 hits it out of the park, especially with the HB-Series Lenses and Accessories. I like to shoot video in 24p timeline and in order to get the motion blur just right, you have to know how all the ND Filter settings work and interact with each other in order to get the perfect motion blur natural to the eye. I bought the HB ND-Filters set as well as the Macro Lens and the camera automatically detects the right settings for the light entering the sensor and even suggests small changes you could make. Instead of me having to spend time fiddling with setting and trying out different ND filters, I put a basic ND32 on in a very sunny day and it set the settings darn near perfect first time. Now anyone can get the natural cinema motion blur look right out of the box! Check out the two picture still right out of the camera footage of me spinning around in circles real fast showing how perfect the HB Series ND Filters and GoPro got the settings! The way to tell is if the still focus center of the shot is clear, but the outside areas are showing motion blur hen moving fast! GoPro Hero 13 nailed it!
AND, the slow motion capabilities are second to none!

Love it. Easy to use. Battery life exceeds previous model I had. I would recommend getting one. Only negative is the weight, camera is heavier than my previous model. Stabilization is excellent, I record myself riding motocross tracks.

Camera has great quality, good HUD, but lacks in low light conditions. Overall solid camera and doesn’t overheat or have given me problems. I use it on my helmet and gives me a great POV.

I wanted to upgrade my Black Hero 6 and I finally made the decision to do so with the 13. The quality, front screen, the abilities it has is amazing. Compared to other brands, I’ve had GoPro in the past with no issues. So, I stayed with GoPro.

Great camera, I’m a professional videographer, use it for behind the scenes, travel and use it for client work sometimes for underwater shots, capabilities are very good when you know how to properly use it. Amazed with the Protune LOG profile, we certainly live in a good time with this technology level. Here’s a frame captured from a LOG video color corrected in Adobe Premiere.

*** Summary ***
I’ve been using my trusty GoPro Hero 8 for the past few years, and the Hero 13 has been a noticeable improvement and upgrade in many ways. The Hero 13 offers numerous recording options, and except for really low-light situations, the quality is great with excellent stabilization, true-to-life color capture, and crispy footage. The Hero 13 suffers less from overheating issues, has a bigger and longer-lasting battery, faster transfer speeds, and the Quik companion app is intuitive and useful. Overall, it’s a solid and reliable action cam that’s worth the coin.
_____
*Pros:
-Good video quality and stabilization.
-Slow motion burst modes are cool.
-The interchangeable lenses are auto-detected.
-Has GPS logging functions.
-The Quik app is easy to use.
-Magnetic mounting system.
-New heatsink reduces overheating.
-Improved Quick Capture function.
-Faster Wi-Fi transfer speed.
_____
*Neutral:
-Low-light performance could be better.
-The lens mods are pricey and can add up really quick.
_____
*Cons:
-None
For my usage scenarios, which involve recording mountain biking, tandem board surfing, jet skiing, and amusement park rides and thrills, an action camera like the GoPro or the DJI Action have been indispensable in capturing and preserving personal and family memories. I still have my GoPro Hero 8 Black from 2019, and it’s been a reliable and stable workhorse all these years. With the release of the Hero 13 Black, I’ve finally upgraded, and I’m quite pleased with all the improvements the company has made.
The biggest improvement for me has been the quality of the video. With 5.3K60, 4K120, and 2.7K240 options, the visual upgrade has been very noticeable. The HyperSmooth 6.0 video stabilization produces excellently smooth and even footage, and although low-light situations are still a challenge for the Hero 13 Black’s sensor, it’s not as grainy and muddy as before. At least the colors appear more true to life and accurate. The HDR mode helps bring out the details in shadowy scenes, and I found it to perform its best under a bright environment.
A neat feature I really dig is the Slo-Mo speeds on offer – 2x 5.3K/60fps, 4x 4K/120fps, and 8x 2.7K/240fps. It’s been really fun capturing my 9yo daughter do her Taekwondo kicks and punches and breaking boards.
Other features I like about the Hero 13 is the built-in GPS, faster 5GHz Wi-Fi transfer speeds, the heatsink located underneath the camera that extends uptime and prevents overheating-related shutdowns, and the improved Quick Capture button.
The Quik app is still intuitively laid out and easy to use, and I prefer using the app to make settings changes. Transferring photos and videos from the camera to the app or the phone is simple and fast.
The battery life is okay, and the charging time is still on the relatively slow side.
There is one new feature about Hero 13 that I haven’t tried out, and it’s the new interchangeable lens system that auto-communicates with the camera for automatic setup and calibration, such as the ultra-wide, macro, anamorphic, and ND filters. I’m mainly interested in the ultra-wide lens, and I’ll probably pick one up when it goes on sale, hopefully around the Black Friday timeframe.
I’ve only had my Hero 13 Black for about a week, but it’s been so far so good. If my experience with my Hero 8 Black is any indication, then the Hero 13 Black will become a reliable and valuable companion that captures and stores our precious family adventures and memories for many years to come. I give it 4.5 Stars.
