he skeleton mount offers so much flexibility when you don't need the waterproof features. The openings allow me to connect an external mic and allows the batterybac to remain cool during 90 minutes of video recording.

I wanted the ability to access port so that I could piggyback extra power (USB charger)so as to do long (>8 hours) time lapse movies mostly of night skies. I usually tape up the open area just to protect from surprise dew or fog that can occur. I would be careful not to forget that this is not Waterproof. On the video note, if the moon or other light such as street, it could place a reflection on the images because of the outside cover.... still a good way to protect camera.

I had the waterproof housing before but now with this skeleton housing I can finally hear people or the environment when recording.

Bought this so I can record shooting weapons outdoors. I wanted it open, to catch the gunfire and protect it if it fell off my gun. It works great with my Hero 3 A bit pricey

This allows the use of the side plugs for an external microphone or plugging the go pro to power in the car while in use.

For those who record video while driving (for legal, law enforcement, liability purposes) this is a must have, if there is no chance of the camera getting wet (like inside a car window) then get this case, the basic case that comes with the camera is great for outside application or any use where recording audio isnt required, however when you need to capture a conversation while recording this case is a must, it allows you to safely capture audio/video while protecting the integrity of the camera, but if its going to be used near water this is not recommended as it will allow water into the housing.

We purchased this casing because we found that the audio on our GoPro, when it was in its standard case, was quite muffled. This case fixes that issue because the side of the GoPro that takes in the audio is open on this casing. The bottom line is that it does what we wanted it to do.

I use this housing as a dash cam since it is open on the side for charging.

With the standard case the camera is well protected, but if your indoors or where the weather is good this case will pick up all the audio loud and clear.

I use this strapped to my helmet chin with a mic adapter and a microphone for moto vlogging and it works great. A must for moto vloggers.

This skeleton housing works great to allow me to charge my go Pro throughout the day of fishing. It obviously won't work when there is rainy conditions but I have seen some people put a plastic baggie or something similar to protect from the elements.

We used this on our GoPro in Mexico. It protected the camera from all the elements and even survived a couple of accidental drops.

This housing works fine to resolve audio issue, it has a front lens cover and only leaves back part open I really think that gopro should have included this case as part of their product The fully sealed case blocks sound ! It seems silly to have to buy a separate case to get audio There are plenty of water proof iPhone cases that don't muffle audio and gopro should take care of customers In the meantime for those having audio issues with the stock case, you will have to buy this case if you want audio The down side is that this case doesn't protect the camera as well because the back is exposed
