Nice addition to my collection. A little bit different of an approach to a movie about an impending end to all life on earth.

A great Sci-Fi movie of a family trying to survive and find a safe place to go after a planet-killing comet crashes into earth destroying life. A journey they take to a safe haven.

Always up for a good disaster movie, and this one qualifies. There’s a comet sighting about to take place which has the whole world intrigued until it’s figured out that large fragments of it will hit the earth; an expected extinction level event. A disaster of this magnitude has been planned for decades as the government have built emergency shelters in Greenland. Gerard Butler receives a call from the government indicating that he and his family have been selected for this emergency shelter and must report to the military air base within 24 hours. So to the backdrop of his friends and neighbors jealous and desperate because they have not been chosen, he gets his recently estranged wife (Morena Baccarin) and his son packed up and enroute to the air base. Between the panic of civilians wanting to be saved and put on the plane and mini fragments of the comet already hitting and setting fire to everything, the trip does not go smoothly. So much tension throughout this movie as Butler struggles to keep his family safe as the countdown of the inevitable comet strike draws closer and closer. Great special effects in this movie; certainly not a B-level effort. Kept me invested all the way through.

Opening: Scene of usual actives at work, at home, shots of downtown Los Angles, a normal commute to home after work and a low key radio announcement of a pending nearest comet fly-by of Earth in history.  The stage is set and the story-line at times is haunting, it is superbly acted, and its’ disaster scenes are highly realistic – the is no doubt in the audience’s mind. The film sound-track is exceptionally well tailored to the moment and spirit of each scene. This well -told saga connects with its’ audience and will at times even “touch” them. It is obvious that the Director and Cinematographer worked-well together to catch the moment of every scene creating audience satisfaction. In short, this film is a great example of its’ genre: Action: Disaster/Thriller.

A dangerous comet is approaching Earth that threats to destroy the planet. The only hope is to reach underground shelters located in Greenland. Gerard Butler stars in this moment that grabs some elements from Deep Impact and 2012 but are not alike. On this one producers presented the different sequences when parts of the comet hit the ground and how the destruction and the waves caused by the impact happened to create a more impressive perspective of the event. Also the typical behavior of the human race when the emergency is about to happen. Very entertaining movie. The final scene was not the original one but watch the deleted scenes where the original ending is presented.

As far as disaster movies go, this one was better than some and just not quite as entertaining as some others. The acting was okay and the premise of the movie was somewhat believable. With that having been said, I think that as we continue to put Covid-19 behind us, the movies and TV shows should start to get a little better. Normally, these new releases drop down to a more 'realistic' 19.99 the closer they get to Release Day, however, this one did not. Since this Blu-ray came with a digital copy and a DVD, it was worth the extra 3.00 that I paid for it (22.99), because it provided entertainment for three different families.

Awesome story. A lot of twists and turns. Very realistic and interesting turn of events, reactions, adjustments, and human response, if this scenario actually ever played out. Great entertainment value. Loved the ending, very gratifying. Excellent effects! I wanted more effects, but the drama was very captivating, and well acted, so you don’t really miss the effects until after the movie, when you realize you bought more into the story line and acting than the scenery. There could have been more effects, but again, this movie really didn’t need it to accomplish its goal. We really enjoyed this night in at the movies. At home. Lol...

man this movie went under the radar of a lot of people. this isnt just another disaster movie (well... yeah it is but thats not the point haha), this actually has a story to it, a story about a family trying really hard to stick together through a catastrophe on a global scale. through the movie not only do they have to face the fears of whats coming to destroy the planet, but from others that are willing to cause them harm for the sake of it. this movie is well put! everything about this movie was just great! and gerard butler is always at his best. definitely pick this one up for the whole family to see

Gerrard Butler is great, as usual. A fly-by comet/asteroid is all the news. In the midst of a birthday party, the news flash is that we’re the target and special folks are given instructions to proceed to a shelter. Butler grabs his semi-dysfunctional family and heads for the shelter site. Chaos ensues and the race for life begins. I love this movie! Buy this movie and find out for yourself. You won’t regret your purchase!

Good movie. We liked the other Gerard Butler movies such as Hunter Killer and the Fallen films a bit better. Perhaps because this is a bit of a different character for him. We also like his costar Morena Baccarin (Firefly & Gotham). The plotline left us with a few questions but perhaps we analyze movie plots too much. The film is action packed and though there are special effects, they don't dominate the film. I would recommend it, especially if it's at an attractive sale price.

The Title Tells You Where They Are Going

Pretty unique disaster film in that it focuses much more on the people and not on the special effects or creating the most awesome genocide scene--as most disaster films are wont to do. Confusion, desperation, violence, murder, hope--all facets of human reaction to disasters are here. I also love that they let Butler use his natural accent here instead of forcing him to slather on a cheap American one. Didn't not think much of this when I first heard about it, but it was a worthy buy.

This is one of the very best reference grade audio movies I've ever seen. I have an expensive HT 7.2 speaker system and the subs are SVS PB1000's. From the get go I knew this was going to test my subs and man did it deliver. One scene in particular scared my wife and I and we both jumped when a gunshot went off. It was the scene at the airport when the military got into a pitched gunfight with civilians. Enjoy the ride. Highly recommended.

Enjoyable to watch if you are looking to spend a couple of hours. However, do not analyze what is going on or you will be frustrated with what you see. So many elements are just completely implausible that it is almost maddening. It felt like there was a natural ending to the film, but then there was the final few minutes added on. If you can get past that, it does have its moments The disc includes a commentary track, which is fairly entertaining.

How People Respond to Impending Disaster

My wife and I watched Greenland, not clear on what we were going to see. It was a good depiction of the various ways people respond to impending disaster. We aren't sure why Greenland specifically would provide protection during such an event, but that is a minor nit. The actors all did a good job showing emotion, etc.. Once seen, it's not a movie we would see again, since it's mainly so dark.

Really good movie. The action starts right from the start with little pause. You get to see the best and the desperate in humans. Took a star for the fact that the digital is only for apple users, not alright. Should have saved money and just bought the single disk rather then combo pack. At least I now know to not take the words digital at face value and to treasure hunt the small print of it saying only apple compatible.

Great Movie! I just wish it was a 4k transfer. The story a little thin but this is more of a popcorn Saturday night movie. The transfer is good picture and sound are great but I wish it had Dolby atmos and a 4k transfer this is the type of film that would do well with it. If you don't have it in your collection you should do so. On the fence then wait for black Friday and grab it at a great price.
