I didn't expect the grass to fly everywhere, Even with the shield. Battery life is decent. I hope that they had included a shoulder strap.

Hello AustinN. Thank you for sharing your feedback! We are glad to hear the battery life meets your expectations. We understand that grass clippings can sometimes fly even with the shield in place, for safe use of your trimmer: wear protective gear, clear the area of debris, hold with both hands, keep bystanders away, trim in a sweeping motion, and always remove the battery before adjustments. We appreciate your input regarding a shoulder strap. This model does not include a shoulder strap. However, shoulder straps are available for purchase separately. Please check out the following options available from Greenworks: exoFLEX Deluxe Shoulder Strap SKU: 80023002 SKU: 80023202 SKU: 80023302. We hope this information was helpful! If you have any questions or need assistance with your mower, please contact Greenworks Customer Support via Live Chat or 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS).

Powerful and solid trimmer

After years of using a corded electric string trimmer, I made the leap to the Greenworks cordless string trimmer. This year’s model features a more powerful 80V battery for longer run times, although the rated coverage of .5 to .75 acre is plenty for me.
Setup is easy and really doesn’t even require a glance at the user guide. The straight shaft just needs to be “unfolded” and tightened, attach the handle and head guard, and you’re good to go. The trimmer head is pre-loaded and ready out of the box.
The battery comes with a hefty charger that can provide a full charge in 40 minutes. The side effect of a fast charge is that a lot of heat is generated, so the charger has its own fan. I don’t think I’ve ever had a charger with a fan, so it was a little surprising to hear it spin up. You may want to charge it in another room if you’re trying to watch TV.
Once charged up, I headed out to the yard to try it out. Although it’s December, I waited on my last cut/trim of the year because I knew this trimmer was coming. The power this thing has is amazing! I was blasting through all my trimming needs in no time at all. The angle of the shaft allowed me use it to mow small patches instead of having to get in there with a mower, making short work of that part.
One thing that was immediately apparent was smooth sound and operation of the motor. There are two power settings (high and low), although I’m not sure why I would ever use the low power setting. The variable-speed trigger is a really nice touch, allowing precise control in every situation. The “tap to feed” feature works amazingly well—just a tap of the head on the ground advances the string so you barely need to pause to extend the string.
Construction of the trimmer is solid, with metal motor housing, shaft and clamp. It is very sturdy and feels like it’s built for heavy duty work. I didn’t use it enough to need to reload the spool, but the claim is that it’s easy and quick, so we’ll see.
I like that the battery is also able to be used in other Greenworks tools, so that’ll make it easier for me to expand by tool set.
Hopefully this trimmer will provide years of service. If so, I can’t see ever going back to gas-powered tools. Now that I no longer need to get out the spools of extension cord for my previous trimmer, I’m much more likely to just grab this one and get it done.
If you’re considering a battery-powered trimmer, you can’t go wrong with this one. I’m very happy I got it!

Workhorse

This Greenworks trimmer is an absolute workhorse. The included 80V battery provides ample power to handle pretty much any edging or weedeating you will come across. The battery provides enough juice for me to cover my acre of land that includes 60 trees and 100 pavers that I have to edge without having to stop to recharge. The trimmer has a switch on the handle to change between regular edging power or a boost/extra power mode for thicker brush. This will reduce the amount of runtime, but it should still give you enough to finish the job. You can also easily adjust the cutting length from 17 inches to about 13 inches if you need extra runtime more than coverage. The trimmer is well-constructed. I do not think you are sacrificing quality with this compared to a heavy-duty gas trimmer. I love how easy it is to start compared to my gas trimmer, and the noise output of this compared to my gas trimmer is so much less. I feel like it's well-balanced weight-wise. The battery is heavy, but the trimmer is easy to hold and operate. There is a connection for a shoulder strap if you want, but I haven't had the need for it. I highly recommend this trimmer.

Great for a Home Trimmer!

The Brushless Trimmer arrived and it was simple installing the attachments. The directions had step-by-step instructions that were accurate. The trimmer felt good in the hands. It feels sturdy like it will last for my needs. Overall, it's not too heavy and not too light. The battery came about 80% charged. You get about a 50-minute run time. It takes about one hour to fully charge the trimmer.
The first cut felt great. Everything worked as needed. Once you attach the battery you have a safety lever and a throttle push. So there is no ON/OFF. There simply is don't engage the safety level and throttle. You get a High and low mode. The trimmer was in the middle of the road for noise. I didn't need earplugs. But you will want to cover your face because this trimmer shreds. It made quick work of my backyard.
With the 50 minute run time, you can easily trim your house. You can even get a couple in there depending on the size. This is great because it fits the needs of a lawn trimmer. This will fit that need of keeping the yard "edged up!" As it did for me.

Efficient & Effective

The Greenworks 80V Brushless String Trimmer is a powerhouse, and does everything any gas trimmer I have ever had and more. I am absolutely shocked by the long battery life this trimmer has. I spent a solid 30 minutes clearing out old knee high grass and still had a little battery life to spare. Also this model is lighter than others I have tried, many times I have noticed that the battery pack is so heavy it makes the entire unit hard to use. This Greenworks 80V model is much more balanced and I found it very easy to use, even over longer sessions. The entire unit has great build quality and I have no doubts this will last for many years. The battery comes with a charger and it charged surprisingly fast for as long as the battery lasts. One of my other favorite things about this trimmer is how easy it is to replace the string, the load n go system they use makes reloading the string a breeze, which can be the most frustrating part about owning a trimmer. I am glad they have solved this issue!

Cordless trimmer makes tough jobs easy

The Greenworks - 80V 17" Brushless String Trimmer with 2.0Ah Battery & Charger is part of a unified Greenworks cordless lawn care collection. The common factor shared by their lawn care tools is their heavy duty 80V battery, which also works with their lawn mower, leaf blower, and there’s even a snow shovel. Sharing a common battery certainly makes life a little less complicated. Owning more than one tool provides a spare battery for tougher and longer-duration jobs.
The string trimmer itself is a solid piece of equipment and built for heavy duty use, but light enough to make short work of typical residential acreage. It comes with the 80V battery, a battery charger, an Allen wrench and instruction pamphlet to assemble it quickly out of the box. The unit comes folded in half to take up less space, but it can be fully assembled and tightened securely with the Allen wrench if space isn’t a problem once out of the box. The trimmer stands tall, close to six feet by my estimate. By comparison, my previous corded string trimmer is much shorter and lighter, but it’s not really meant for heavy duty use. The Greenworks trimmer on the other hand is built to handle some serious weed whacking!
I think what makes the Greenworks trimmer easy to use is the simple string loading feature. To reload the trimmer, simply measure a little over 20 feet of string, align the markers on the spool, and thread the string through the spool slots so that you have equal lengths of string on both sides of the spool. Winding the spool will then draw the string into the trimmer. Stop winding when the length of string is roughly about 5 and a half inches. In most cases, no disassembly of the spool head should ever by necessary when restringing the trimmer. The string cutting blade can either be set by default to a string length of 17 inches, or you can reverse the blade to shorten it to 15 inches. The most difficult and sometimes frustrating part of the procedure is getting the string to feed straight through the spool slots, as the string tends to curve from being coiled and can prove frustrating to feed it through the spool. In concept, I thought it was a pretty easy method of restringing the trimmer, but it can take several attempts as was the case when I reloaded the trimmer for the first time. On first use, it did suck in the string on one side of the spool when using as an edger, so I reloaded the spool from scratch and had no further issues.
Operating the trimmer is also simple enough, requiring holding down the safety switch and the variable speed is controlled by squeezing the main trigger. The trimmer also has a two-speed setting adjustment, depending on the type of vegetation.
Overall, I found the Greenworks trimmer to work well and built to handle almost any size job, and being cordless makes it so much easier to use vs. a trimmer with an electric cord.

This battery powered trimmer is absolutely great! I was surprised at the power it has and the battery last around an hour. That was long enough to complete my yard and part of my neighbors, It is lightweight and easy to use. I love the bump system to extend the cutting line. I highly recommend this unit.
