Cordless trimmer makes tough jobs easy

The Greenworks - 80V 17" Brushless String Trimmer with 2.0Ah Battery & Charger is part of a unified Greenworks cordless lawn care collection. The common factor shared by their lawn care tools is their heavy duty 80V battery, which also works with their lawn mower, leaf blower, and there’s even a snow shovel. Sharing a common battery certainly makes life a little less complicated. Owning more than one tool provides a spare battery for tougher and longer-duration jobs. The string trimmer itself is a solid piece of equipment and built for heavy duty use, but light enough to make short work of typical residential acreage. It comes with the 80V battery, a battery charger, an Allen wrench and instruction pamphlet to assemble it quickly out of the box. The unit comes folded in half to take up less space, but it can be fully assembled and tightened securely with the Allen wrench if space isn’t a problem once out of the box. The trimmer stands tall, close to six feet by my estimate. By comparison, my previous corded string trimmer is much shorter and lighter, but it’s not really meant for heavy duty use. The Greenworks trimmer on the other hand is built to handle some serious weed whacking! I think what makes the Greenworks trimmer easy to use is the simple string loading feature. To reload the trimmer, simply measure a little over 20 feet of string, align the markers on the spool, and thread the string through the spool slots so that you have equal lengths of string on both sides of the spool. Winding the spool will then draw the string into the trimmer. Stop winding when the length of string is roughly about 5 and a half inches. In most cases, no disassembly of the spool head should ever by necessary when restringing the trimmer. The string cutting blade can either be set by default to a string length of 17 inches, or you can reverse the blade to shorten it to 15 inches. The most difficult and sometimes frustrating part of the procedure is getting the string to feed straight through the spool slots, as the string tends to curve from being coiled and can prove frustrating to feed it through the spool. In concept, I thought it was a pretty easy method of restringing the trimmer, but it can take several attempts as was the case when I reloaded the trimmer for the first time. On first use, it did suck in the string on one side of the spool when using as an edger, so I reloaded the spool from scratch and had no further issues. Operating the trimmer is also simple enough, requiring holding down the safety switch and the variable speed is controlled by squeezing the main trigger. The trimmer also has a two-speed setting adjustment, depending on the type of vegetation. Overall, I found the Greenworks trimmer to work well and built to handle almost any size job, and being cordless makes it so much easier to use vs. a trimmer with an electric cord.

This battery powered trimmer is absolutely great! I was surprised at the power it has and the battery last around an hour. That was long enough to complete my yard and part of my neighbors, It is lightweight and easy to use. I love the bump system to extend the cutting line. I highly recommend this unit.
