i played a lot of the first grid game. it was a lot of fun with challenging ai and a good little story. i was leery to try this game since there wasn't going to be an in car view. but i took a flyer on it and it surprised me.
i use the hks controller and i usually play racing games in car view or over the hood view. it took some adjusting to get used to driving from behind. after a few races i was able to mostly make it work, though i did struggle sat times. thankfully they still have the rewind feature for those moments. once i got used to it, those moments became rare and now i am able to navigate without too much controller issues.
the cars are varied and do feel different. i usually do one or two runs with any new car just to get a feel for it and then do the actual race. however, they can be a little floaty and loose at times. the ai will bump you around so get used to it. at times, it can be frustrating, but i realize what goes around comes around because there are times i am hitting them too.
the campaign is similar to the last one, but instead of a girl, the voice is now a guys. my wife used to make fun of the woman's voice when she heard me playing grid, calling her my girlfriend. so at least thats an improvement. also, you don't hire teammates. that was one thing i really liked in grid for the strategy while racing. i miss that.
if you want a true simulation, this is not it. this reminds me of flatout ultimate carnage a little as far as the driving but not as focused on crashes. when you do crash though, it can be pretty epic. i have flown off a couple cliffs on the pacific highway course in the game.
the races are very fun and at the end of the day that is all that matters.

I was a fan of the first Grid, so getting this one i knew what i was getting into. This game has a very nice mix of arcade-ish and simulation racing. Even on medium, it has a challenge to it. Sometimes in the higher races, if you dont get in the top 3 in the hole shot, you might as well restart.
Anyway, awesome graphics, gameplay mechanics, and content. A great buy for any racing fan.

One of my favorite racing series has finally returned. More Need for speed than Gran tourismo. Realistic damage with arcade/sim controls.Plenty of driving assists as well as compatible with most steering wheel setups. Highly recommended game.

Only a legendary racing game have a great quality, like the one you're in now, could handle the course you're about to drive. Just ahead, twists, turns, pitfalls and straightaways beckon to be conquered in this awesome game.

Not sure how many race games PS needs but to me they are all the same. Gran T 5 and Dirt 2 are the only ones that works well with our steering wheel and gas pedal controller

Another Great Racing Game

My top two racing games of choice are Gran Turismo and Need for Speed. To have another racing series out there other than Burnout (which I never really got into anyway) is really a welcome sight, especially since Need for Speed games come out once a year and Gran Turismo games come out every 3 to 4 years. In any case, the gameplay is really good, graphics are better than expected, and once you get far enough into the game, you will really start to feel a challenge, especially once you start to race some of the faster cars. In summary, I would definitely recommend this game to a friend, and I am glad they finally decided to release the sequel.

A solid follow up to the original

I enjoyed the first edition of Grid and believe it was an outstanding addition to the world of arcade racing. Grid 2 builds on that solid foundation by adding "live routes" to the mix and making general improvements to the visuals / game play. You can't hardly go wrong with a Codemasters' racing title, but they still have some ground to cover in creating a compelling "career" mode. The missing cockpit view in this title has been well documented, but I also find myself looking for customization options that we've grown accustomed to in other racing titles (car tuning, upgrades, expanded paint shop options, etc.).
However, those flaws won't turn me away from this title. I've really enjoyed the solid online package and white knuckle racing in the weeks I've spent with this edition. As a side note, the Dallara Indy cars are a great piece of DLC and makes Grid 2 the only place you can get Indy car action on a console these days. Take them for a spin around the big track at Indy; its a ton of fun!

Don't Waste Your Money

Codemasters pushed Grid 2 for about six months. Promoted this as one of the greatest arcade racing games in a long time. If you are like me, you were sucked in by the trailers and the multiple DLC options that were available for free with an advanced order.
I've had this game for nearly two weeks, keep playing it in hopes that I will feel different about it, but I just don't. This is a very very sad offering from Codemasters. I was sucked in by the superb offering that is F1 2012 (Codemasters). The story line is very weak and easy to conquer, you don't acquire the livery of vehicles that you may hope. The only thing good about the "story line" is the art work of the vehicles and the environments you play in. If you like to customize your vehicles by painting them, you will find this element enjoyable.
Online portion has so much potential. The problem is that so many people are more interested in wrecking than racing. You cannot create a lobby in which you only want to race. You may have a better chance of getting a "race" in the custom rooms, but don't count on it. The more general lobbies have many participants that simply want to crash everyone.
The draw of the online portion is the ability to level up, purchase vehicles, upgrade them, customize them, and race them. Its difficult to upgrade when fellow players want to wreck you. The lower the finish, the lower the cash you earn, the longer it takes to upgrade.
If you were like me expecting something spectacular like F1, where the online racing is truly enjoyable (most of the time) and the stand alone racing is also spectacular (even with the frequent wet races), you will be let down. The cars handle poorly in Grid 2. Braking and navigating corners can be a nightmare. If you are a "racer" its nearly impossible to navigate any of these scenarios using a "racing line".
This game might be bargain bin good but it is not worth $60. This Codemasters offering is horrible.

Waste of money and time

I don't plan on playing it long enough to see how much content there is. The AI is so poorly programmed the solo player career mode is ridiculously stupid. Obviously the whole pack of cars is out to keep you from first place - no surprise there, but the manner in which the game actually cheats you to make this happen is unforgivable. Game designers/programmers like this should be liable in a court of law for making such an obvious piece of trash.
I like all the cities and tracks they give you, and racing over a network against real players may be fun. However, being a gamer since they were invented, I must say this is one of those games that you want to break because it cheats so bad.
When the AI can crash you pretty much whenever it wants, and when you crash instead of the AI - even using the same tactics on the AI that the AI uses on you, the designers/programmers are doo-doo and the game sucks.
So it may be fun to play vs other real players, but there's easily better racing games for that - don't waste your money.
I bought the game because it had split screen for 2 players. It does make a decent crowd pleaser as far as watching someone else drive a lap or two when you have company over.
But my bottom line is that games that cheat you in order to call themselves "challenging" are a waste of money, time, and energy, and this is definitely one of those games.
