In the fall of 2013 we caught a glimpse of what director Adam Wingard could do with the crazy/fun You're Next and with his follow-up he only amps up the fun even more. I pretty much loved every single aspect of The Guest and only give it a less than perfect score because it isn't something to be regarded as exceptional. It's not exceptional because it isn't necessarily innovative, but it's still highly entertaining and well-constructed because it knowingly draws from very specific inspiration. Horror movies of the late 70's and early 80's as well as the thrillers of the same decade infuse every angle of Wingard's tale of uncertainty. He plows over every moment in the film with his unabashed soundtrack fueled by synthesizers and one note tones that dispel any notion we should take this seriously. Instead, seasoned moviegoers will acknowledge this as an exercise in form, of style and take note of how every story, even the most generic of ones, can be made fresh and interesting with a unique directorial approach. Not to mention, Dan Stevens serves at the titular guest in a role that will only lead to you seeing much more of him in the future.

Can't believe this movie isn't more popular than it is. Hidden gem.

This film is the perfect mashup of thriller, horror, and action for fans of John Carpenter's films from the 1980s. Even the music reminded me of those Carpenter classics. Just a bizarre story, but done well and completely enjoyable. I am smiling as I think about how fun this movie is to watch. Definitely a solid pick for a Friday movie night, although the ending might leave some people upset. I, for one, found the ending hilarious.

Without spoiling too much, The Guest is a thriller in the same way that You're Next (also from writer Simon Barrett and director Adam Wingard) is a slasher film. They have all the hallmarks and tropes of their respective subgenres, but with a twist. It's reminiscent in style of Cannon Films, but won't be mistaken for an 80s film in any way other than its synthesizer-heavy score. The Guest is also surprisingly funny, but if you don't like You're Next, approach with caution...

From the team that brought you You're Next comes this movie that is so much better than that rather tepid film. The Guest is a hard movie to classify, I've seen a lot of people call it a horror movie, others a thriller, some have called it "throwback." Whatever the case, it is very, very good. From word go this movie grabs hold of you and doesn't let go until the end. If you are looking for something different, but still excellent, The Guest is the movie for you.

Before he played The Beast, Dan Stevens starred in this thriller! He shows up at a fallen soldier's family's home claiming to be their son's friend. At first his intentions seem sincere but eventually they take a dark turn in this very cool action thriller!

This movie wasn't on my radar when it came out on Blu-Ray. Cut to a few months later and I read the reviews saying it's a really good movie. I waited patiently for the right price, picked it up, and I'm glad I did. Plus, I didn't even know the actor playing the titled role was from "Downton Abbey".

Even with its present-day setting and context, this film felt like a throwback to some of the best, story-driven thrillers of years past. Definitely a film that toys with your mind a bit and doesn't rely on the action sequences alone.

The bluray was in perfect condition. I wish it came with the slip cover, but not a big deal. Great film. I Love Adam Wingard's work (You're Next, Blair Witch). I can't wait to see what he does with Death Note.

This movie was awesome. I'm a huge movie collecter and this was a must have for my ever expanding collection. Plus it has one of the best soundtracks I've heard. If you're a fan of movies you need to buy this movie.

What an unexpectedly good movie. Basically, one part 'First Blood,' two parts 'The Hitcher,' sprinkle in a whole lotta 'Drive' and simmer. Check it out if you get the chance. David would appreciate that.

it starts out as a friend of the familys son and gets werd as it goes getting close to them but its a surprise ending if you like thrillers then watch this.

The Guest is a fresh fun filled adventure with a slightly deeper story then what is presented. It is a surprisingly great movie from the makers of You're Next (also very good).

B movie plot is given an indie spin with a smart script, direction and a more down to earth cast. Ending goes a bit off the rails but as whole engrossing.

The Guest is pretty good for what it is. I am a big fan of Adam Wingard's previous film, You're Next. Here's hoping he returns to the horror genre.

If you haven't checked this one out, please do. Very retro feel to it, but has a great soundtrack and Dan Stevens is fantastic in this, hope to see him in more stuff. A must watch.

Good Movie, some of the tactical scenes are not well thought out. However, this was a great action movie and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Imagine if Jason Bourne was evil? Shot like a horror film but more of a thriller I loved this movie. Music and cast are awesome!

The Guest is a great thriller. I walked in expecting one kind of movie, and it delivered something completely unexpected, in a good way. Well worth the watch, or purchase.

The movie was very entertaining. The space of the movie moved very fast. I will definitely watch this movie over again. Glad I bought it.
