Received game via GH5 promo. I'll admit it in a heart beat, I am a HUGE Van Halen fan. When I heard that they were making a game dedicated to Van Halen, I got goose bumps, awesome. After playing it for hours on end, kind feel somewhat let down. They venture into a lot of their earlier work but not much of the Sammy Hagar era Van Halen. Some folks prefer one over the other, but I love'm both and would liked to have seen more of the later stuff, keep it balanced, but no Gary Cheron stuff. But oh well, can't have your cake and eat it to. Overall, GH fans may want to think about it first. Van Halen fans who play GH, reserve your copy now. Not to bad, but far from great.

I got my free advance copy of Guitar Hero: Van Halen with GH5, and I'm glad I did. Whether you like Van Halen or not the songs on this disk are all hits. The crowd sings along while you play and they get excited the better you perform. Get this game for you collection, its a must!

*Note: I received this game before it came out because of the Guitar Hero promotion with Guitar Hero 5. So, this isn't one of those 'bunk' reviews that says "This game will be awesome!" before it is actually released. Just to be clear, I've actually played this game. First off, I'm not the biggest Van Halen fan, but I do appreciate their music. And, this game offers a good variety of Van Halen's library. Please notice that I said Van Halen, and not Van Hagar. There's no trace or evidence of Sammy Hagar in this game. Whether that's a positive or negative is ultimately your choice. For me, I could have enjoyed some of the Hagar influence. Anyways, most of the songs are a challenge and that's what most GH fans are looking for. As for the difficulty, please remember that this game is dedicated to a band that has one of the most famous guitarists, ever. So, challenging songs should be a given. As for the song list, you have VH's list and there's a few songs from other bands added in, and that is a plus. Some of the other bands are Foo Fighters, Queen, Third Eye Blind, and a few others. Nothing against VH, but a little (and I stress little) variety is good. In conclusion, this game is decent to solid. Not awesome, not horrible, but somewhere in between. If you're a diehard Van Halen fan, run to the store as soon as this game comes out. If you're just a Guitar Hero fan, walk to the store the first week this game comes out. If nothing else, you'll get some more songs to jam to. If you're unsure about this band or game, check the full song list and go from there.

When he opened the gift he jumped off the floor and spun around a few times. The next few days he spent a lot of time playing this game. He had no complaints and seemed very happy.

Not only do the kids love to play the game, but my husband loves to watch and listen to them play the game!! If you love Van Halen, this is a must have!!

i got it with gh5 and it reaklly fun but can get boring

Huge Van halen fan. Great music but they really missed the ball here not having more Van Halen hits with Hagar. They could have done 30 more Van Halen songs and this game would have been an easy 5-star game. That being said Van Halen and Guitar Hero were meant for each other.
