Love the movie. The struggle of a mother and a daughter wanting to be accepted

This is a gift for my mother who grew up with this film.This is a musical film which means they will sing about every new scene. Overall, it was interesting to watch with my mother. She enjoyed it.

This movie is absolutely great. The newer versions do not come even close to the original. I recommend this movie highly.

WOW, need I say more? The ascents of this 1962 musical has the drive of a good musical and the quiet of a sad drama in a scene or two.

Grew up watching this with my great grandmother. I could watch it over and over again. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

A movie geared more towards an older type audience

The synopsis is incorrect, June was actually two years younger than Louise. June eloped at the age of 13 to get away from her domineering mother and Louise (Gypsy) then became a stripper soon after at the age of 15 when her mother "volunteered her". Awesome movie though, the costumes are elaborate, Natalie Wood has a great physique to play this part. She plays the part of a demure teen reluctantly doing whatever Mama says quite well. Rosalind Russell does justice to the part of Mama but I really think the movie makes her look nicer and more loveable than the real person was according to Gypsy's autobiography. I really think they held back in representing the "Real Mama".

This is a classic! A must for everyone! A great cast and a true story about an abusive mother. The life long effects that the abuse had on her two children makes you think about how this movie will never be out of date. The only thing that was disappointing is the fact that when this movie was made, they had to tone down the abusive.
