Some of the songs are pretty good but there is too much mimicry of the old 80's & 90's bands...as if its some sort of tribute. If that's what they were going for then they did a pretty good job. This album just doesn't have the same energy as their other albums.

It appears that A7X has finally welcomed a drummer as an official member of the band, something they avoided with Mike Portnoy. I know the new guy is quite capable, since I've seen them in concert with him, but this album doesn't really show off his skills. The music is great, as usual, but, as many reviewers have noted, follows more of a groove rather than the thrash that the band has been known for. My favorite track is "Requiem," and at least there are not as many snoozers as the "Nightmare" album.

Great album from beginning to end. I've listened to it several times and enjoy every track. Initially not a big fan of the band but their last couple of albums have won me over. They continue to mature and grow their sound. Lyrically and musically solid. Well done guys!

Such a great band. Only thing be cautious of what albums you buy. They kind of have 2 different sounds. The one I love is when they sing the songs. Then they do have some songs where they are like heavy heavy metal screaming voices. With either voice type you still get the kick *** music from them.

I purchased this cd for my brother's birthday. He was glad to get it and recognized one of the members. He turned 62 and still rocks. The album has songs that have received radio play. The singer has a powerful voice and has some mighty fine guitar solos.

I became a fan of these guys with the Nightmare Album. I have since picked up almost all of their prior albums. This new one is just amazing. They have continued to grow and have crafted some finely tuned songs. This is a great starting point if you haven't yet and a must listen for any existing fans.

By far my most favorite Avenged Sevenfold album. I purchased this album the year it came out and absolutely loved it. I ended up losing it somewhere but grabbed it again when I saw it for $5.99 at Best Buy (honestly, I'd pay normal price for it).

I noticed the change of Avenged starting with this album, but I'm not bothered. I love all their material. No change in manufacturing style or lyrical ingenuity here!

I hesitated to pick this album up for a long time, the few songs i had heard were not to my taste (shepherd of fire, hail to the king). The band decided to take a much slower pace than previous albums, which was initially a turnoff for me, but having gone through the album something like 15 times now i can say that you get used to it. Once you do you can start enjoying it. This certainly isn't Avenged's best album, but if you're a fan you will find something here to enjoy. the band's overarching heaven and hell themes are strongly present here. While i don't necessarily like the Metallica tone they've adopted, the music is still solid. Hopefully their next album will return back to their Nightmare and self titled albums sound, Arin definitely deserves a chance to show why he was chosen to fill the Rev's shoes.

I think this album is great but seems a bit different than their previous stuff. Some of the songs have much more of a Metallica feel or remind me of Buried Alive off the Nightmare album. Great overall CD.
