A slash far above the rest

Halloween is directed by David Gordon Green and co-written by Danny McBride. It is the 11th movie of the significant horror franchise, which is by far my favorite of all the horror franchises. The first Halloween and each subsequent follow ups all hold a place, some more special than others, in my heart, yes, even Season of the Witch and the Rob Zombie movies. But this entry is something else entirely. Not only to me is it the best Halloween sequel, I also believe it is the best Halloween movie, the best slasher movie and one of the best horror movies of all time. Period. The movie takes place 40 years after the original movie, ignoring all sequels in between. While this is not the first time they have done that, in fact this is the fourth alternate timeline in the series, this time however I believe they got it right. In a storyline reminiscent to Halloween H20, the main difference being instead of having Laurie Strode running away from her past, this time she is prepared for it, as the 40 years past has her spent honing her battle skills to ready herself for Michael’s impending return. Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode here gives a terrific performance that is rare among horror movies; more akin to a serious drama. Curtis is believable and nuanced, allowing the film to ground itself into a level of realism, divorcing itself from the goof and lunacy from earlier entries like The Curse of Michael Myers and Resurrection. Curtis is the backbone of the film and without her giving it 110 percent, the movie could have faltered and not worked at all. Thanks to the grounded performances and direction, Michael Myers this time around feels much more menacing. Since the victims he kills feel way less like cannon fodders like in typical slasher movies, the overall tone of the character is darker and more mean-spirited. While still having some slasher tropes, the characters in the film feel more real than ever, so when scary moments hit, I genuinely wanted them to survive, but only for my heart to sink, when they bite the dust in the bloodiest, most disgusting, brutal way. Michael Myers is a horror icon, but he has not been frightening since the original. As the series went on, he became a generic masked killer at best and laughable at worst. The reason for that is because the sequels simply do not know how to frame him. Ask yourself what makes someone scary? Absolutely not when you explain away his curse with Thorn and turn him into a hitman for a cult, or recount his white trash family backstory. None of that. Here he is just a highly resilient, deranged man, who lacks morals and empathy, and preys on one of man's’ primal fears - at any moment someone can break into your house and murder you for no reason and with no remorse. The best scene of the movie is a tracking shot where we follow Michael through the neighborhood, breaking into people’s houses and murdering them in the grisliest way. The camera, the tension, the lighting, the kills all make it one of the best horror scenes of recent memory. And the final showdown between Laurie and Michael was cathartic and satisfying, having been built up throughout the entire film. As for negatives, I kind of wished they show more of the holiday of Halloween. Yes, we get a Halloween dance and background scenes of children trick or treating, but something the past movies did absolutely right was capturing the spirit of the holiday that I felt this movie kind of just skimmed through. I wanted more walks through the autumn foliage and perhaps even a scene at a costume shop would have been appreciated. With Laurie and Michael both working as characters for their different respective reasons, the rest of the technical aspect of the film is equally brilliant. The writing, directing and music (of which John Carpenter returned for) are all top-notch. Halloween 2018 is the best movie of the series for me, topping even the original because of the much more menacing nature of Michael Myers. The movie is a slash far above the rest of horror movies of the same vein. Halloween will satisfy those who are looking for a fun, jump scare-filled movie, as well as those who are looking for intense, arthouse horror.

“Halloween” is an alternate timeline/sequel/direction continuing from the original 1978 Halloween movie. It’s essentially ignoring all of the original Halloween sequels which are Halloween 2 through Halloween Resurrection. This movie was solid but is more suspenseful gore rather that actually scary. Jamie Lee Curtis delivers as the babysitter who has endured 40 years of paranoia and PTSD. The ending is very entertaining. The movie is a must, for Halloween and Michael Myers collectors.

Missed this one when it came out in theaters - was going to buy the digital version but this came with it for the same price (as the digital alone). The picture and sound quality are obviously better with the physical copy and so glad I picked this one up! No spoilers on the story but it picks up nicely where the original left off and does not disappoint

To be completely up front, the movie was okay.... the original is my favorite, this sequel kinda falls short, but entertaining anyway. I actually “double-dipped” here. I already purchased the initial steelbook release, and only picked this one up for the Todd MacFarlane exclusive artwork as I am a big fan of his as well——- match made in my eyes. I have no intention of even opening this and it is still wrapped up in shrink wrap.......... haha it’s a collector thing!

The movie was excellent. Really captured the essence of the original while still adapting it to modern audiences. Went back to creating a mood as appose to just gross out horror. Really enjoyed it and was a great conclusion to the story. The steelbook also looks amazing! Nice shiny finish and well detailed. Especially liked the Jack-O-Lantern on the back. Loved it!

If you are a fan of the franchise you should love this movie. If you do not like the franchise you probably will not like the movie lol. The 4k is awesome, and a new entry into the franchise that is not campy is very nice. I really love how gory this movie was. Michael is at peak killing form, and the bodies start to add up quick. My wife was on the edge of her seat!

Great Transfer as I watched the Blu Ray Disc. The 4K Disc Version could not play on my Blu Ray Player as I don't have a 4K Blu Ray player yet....I'm sure that 4K disc must look FANTASTIC....will have to look into getting 1 of those 4K players soon. The Artwork on This STEELBOOK Version is definitely worth spending that extra $9 to $10 more to have in your collection.

I’m a huge fan of the 1978 original and let’s just say all these years later and Jamie Lee still has it. Excellent acting and hardcore flip from the original when she was much younger. Michael will still give you the chills as he pops up almost out of thin air. Movie takes a new direction, but a good one and will keep you in suspense and on the edge of your seat.

John Carpenter's original Halloween is one of my favorite movies and this sequel is a worthy continuation of his 1978 masterpiece. Despite ignoring all other sequels after the original, this 2018 follow up is one of the best films in the popular Halloween franchise. Halloween 2018 is a highly recommended and welcome addition to any Halloween movie collection.

This is the best Halloween remake to date I actually already bought this on 4K Steelbook when it came out earlier this year but since they decided to rerelease it with new artwork in it I had to get it again. The artwork on this Steelbook is fantastic if your a horror movie fan then I highly recommend getting this before the steelbooks sell out again.

Most of today's horror movies are repetitive and predictable... but Halloween is one of those franchises that really stands out in the horror genre because you just don't know what to expect. The movie is definitely worth watching if you're a fan of the franchise. The 4K SteelBook has awesome, unique, front artwork. The video quality is excellent and the audio appears to be pretty good. Worth adding to the collection, especially if you have a 4K TV and a good surround sound system.

This is actually a reprint of the Best Buy 4k Steelbook released last year. The only difference being that the case for the movie has artwork by Todd McFarlane and not Bill Sienkiewicz. If you have the first one and are not a collector, this is not needed. If you are a collector and a fan of both Halloween & Todd's art...this is a no brainer!

Straight across the board Halloween movie with Laurie playing the part of Loomis. Interesting how they just picked a starting point and ignored all sequels, only to give him that same invincible vibe. Think this would fit into my franchise ranking as number 6. Best to worst: 1, 2, H20, 3, 4, 11(this one), remake, 5, resurrection, curse, and finally remake 2.

I went into this one with high expectations that were almost fulfilled. It’s probably the second best in the history of “Halloween” movies. Not sure why they gave Jamie Lee Curtis the Leslie Van Houten makeover, but she plays her part well. The film is strong enough in all technical aspects and audio/picture quality is fine. Still, the recent 4k release of the John Carpenter original is superior in every way. Both versions are worthy of a place in your UHD horror collection.

Considering itself the one and only sequel to the 1978 original is a bold move, but one that pays off considering the history of this franchise and the rough track record of all those other sequels. The return of Michael Myers is done with utmost care and intensity and I cannot wait to make this the 2nd half of an annual Halloween double-feature from now on!

This was a pretty good effort to close out the Halloween series with Jamie Lee Curtis, and with Michael Myers still as a psychotic killer, but not a parody as he's seen in such horrible films in the series like Halloween Resurrection. Anyway, it's not the greatest movie, but it's still solid enough and better than most in the franchise history, and I'm glad they did it. The 4K is solid, as is the audio, and you get a digital copy. You can't go wrong here.

The exclusive best buy version of this movie offers a great steelbook cover that can't be obtained anywhere else. And the content offered is great from having blu ray and digital download. I received my steelbook from in perfect condition. The 4K presentation of the film itself is excellent and the steelbook's artwork make this a must-own for fans of the franchise. Prior to purchase, I didn't see anything that specifically stated that this version includes a Digital Copy; however, it does and redeems in 4K on MoviesAnywhere.com, as well.

I enjoyed this new installment of the franchise very much. Though there are three different time lines to these films, this film follows the original cast. Jamie Lee Curtis plays an amazing role as she portrays what happens to someone when they’ve seen the horrors of their childhood unfold in tragedy. This film is another classic in my opinion.
