Great overall sound and kicks you in the face!!!!!

i own all of Metallica's music & respect them - songs off all their albums were among my favorites growing up. My interests of late have turned to more prog related groups. Metallica's sound was revolutionary to my rock ears & they played in something other than 4/4! Their lyrics were sparse, you had to listen to really hear the worlds in "And Justice". The music propelled the words. But Metallica has changed. To be honest, I wish they'd never done a ballad. I don't listen to Metallica for ballads. Hatfield is an able singer & sings better all the time, but now the vocals are very prominent, seemingly guiding the music. This album is very plain & stark sounding, like "Death Magnetic" & "And Justice" - but not as insane as those two records! Or did I miss an instrumental like Suicide and Redemption? Parts don't feel spontaneous or diverse in sound unlike System of A Down. Most of the songs seem very planned, "written", & echo previous albums, but I don't hear anything new or "breaking the modern musical barrier of metal". Sorry but I have high expectations for the brave men that wrote "Disposable Hero's". Metallica was synonymous with ground breaking music, but groups like Mastodon & Opeth have destroyed this predictable sound. It rocks, it is super sonic, but it doesn't destroy me like Siolent Green or make me feel that groovy evil like The Marz Volta or Velvet Revolver or even Sleep. It sounds like a very clean, well produced, but far to reminiscent of earlier works. I'm not sure why they don't let Robert Trujillo do anything other than follow the guitars. He's an amazing player - listen to SST & Infectious Grooves - he could add the same dimension that Cliff Burton added to "Master of Puppets". Melodic bass lines & different techniques could transform their sound & help them to grow beyond this "classic" metal sound. I found a few places...challenging...& knowing how well Trujillo plays - i just don't get it. Now I'm spoiled. Mastodon's harmonic chords, Tesseract's super sonic vocals & style, Opeth's heavy to dreamy constructs, Dream Theater is at least unpredictable (& yes I like the not very astonishing) - all of this is more interesting to me. Plus great bands right now are releasing new & exciting sounds, don't get stuck in a rut in music, cuz the great stuff is always morphing into something new. It rocks, but in comparison to crazy metal that is the opposite of predictability - the album is more - predictable...I'm sure it'll be a hit.

Wow this the best Metallica record since the Black album. It's straight ahead hard rock with a twist the songs are about the lack of human interaction via the social media especially the 20 - 30 yr olds. KIRK Hamment on lead guitar is crushing it he was a student of Joe Satriani when starting out playing his leads are off the hook best he has ever played and the rhythm section is solid and rocking. It was a long wait since the last album, plus the EQ and mix is the best they have ever done. Five stars on this one.

Completely surprised at this album. Death Magnetic had it's moments of being good, but it was just poorly arranged and drawn out to the point of lumbering along. Hard Wired suffers from the nearly the same thing being two albums this go around, but there are far more good songs to enjoy than with DM. If they had merely edited this down to a single album it would have been epic Metallica album. My suggestion is Metallica needs to keep some friends around who will speak up and help them trim the fat sometimes because HWTSD was in desperate need of some carving. Don't get me wrong the good songs are GOOD, but the weaknesses are there too.

In short, Hardwired to Self-Destruct is the best album since the aka "Black Album" was released in 1991. Some of my favorite tracks include: Atlas, Rise!, Confusion, and Spit Out the Bone. Pros: Sound production is much better than it was on Death Magnetic, something for everyone who is a fan of Metallica (thrashy, mid tempo, and groovy tracks) Cons: A few filler tracks in the middle of the 2nd disc, could have used more shorter songs (most are over 6:40 in length)

I must be honest, I have been a Metallica fan for over 25 years now and after the release of St. Anger, I was severely disappointed. Then in 2008, they came out with Death Magnetic and my love for them grew a little because that album had some pretty good songs on it. And then they go and release Hardwired....and totally redeem themselves. This album front to back is soooo good. Metallica to this day puts out quality music!!

Let me just say that I love Metallica! This album is good but I still need to give it some more plays before reaching a full verdict on how much I like it. As of right now, I like the last release (Death Magnetic) better than this album just because I felt the songs were "catchier" on the previous release. This album has a couple of tracks like that (moth into flame, atlas rise) but it may just take some time to really have the other tracks grow on me. If you are a Metallica fan, you will enjoy this one.

With some great songs, this 2CD pack should please any Metallica fan. You've got a couple thrash songs to open and close the set, with some fast rockers and brooding songs in the middle. James has got a lotta great riffs through these songs. His vocals are great on Halo On Fire. Any Met fan should go out and get the CD. Support the band, don't steal it or just listen off You Tube.

When I bought this CD, a guy saw me paying for it. He told me that I would it and it was the best CD from Metallica. That was hard for me to believe. I was excited to start playing It so l popped it in immediately. I wasn't disappointed. I'm 48 years old, my 15 old daughter heard some songs and she likes it. That says a lot because my daughter only listens to new metal music.

Metallica has attempted to go back to their roots on this release, with pretty much positive results. It's certainly better than St. Anger, and I like it better than Death Magnetic as well. Nothing Earth shattering here, but if you're a Metallica lover it's worth a look. The songs sound like they are trying to emulate the music from their early to mid 80's period, which is the music their fans prefer.

Better album than St Anger. I'm a big fan of Metallica since Ride the Lightning and this is as good as Metallica gets nowadays. Who I'm misleading? I love Metallica and bought all their albums and DVDs. My fav is still the black album and whenever the wife is out of house for a while, either the Big 4 or Cunning Stunts plays on the big TV at full blast, scaring the dogs and annoying the neighbors.

This album has a lot of dynamics and great production. I'm glad Metallica decided to really come with after nearly a decade since Death Magnetic. James and Lars shine through with the creative riffing and drum aggression. Kirk's solos have great flavor and of course Rob brings some thunder wth his bass playing.

Metallica is back in full force with this album. They kinda wussed out through the years but going back to their roots with this album. Was a great choice. Like most of the songs maybe 2 or 3 of the songs I didn't really like but they still sounded better than some of their past albums.

I live the album. It's been a while since Metallica put one out with such great reviews. Although it brings back their style from the 80's when I was in high school, they still put that touch of modern keeping it up for today's crowd who enjoy heavy metals from the 80's.

Metallica's best LP since the Black Album. The sound quality is excellent and the songs are more like the Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning days. Only bad thing I find about it is the album art, that really sucks. Guess they really don't care about that since the trend is buying the music online and not actually buying the CD or LP.

Metallica have been around for a while, but their new release still packs a good punch! Each song sounds like it could be off of any one of their past albums so this album in particular from Metallica has a good amount of variety, while remaining heavy the entire time!

Hardwired- To Self Destruct is Metallica's best work in a long time. I find myself really enjoying the songs and listening to this album whenever I can, especially in my car. Not to say I don't enjoy other Metallica releases, this reminds very much of their early work.

Hardwired...to Self-Destruct continues in the footsteps of Death Magnetic as "old-school" Metallica. Hard, aggressive, and no inclination for pop melodies, this is another attempt to deliver the Metallica you grew up on; and mostly succeeds. You can't go home again, but Metallica is talented enough to give you the next best thing.

Metallica finally succeeds in going back to their roots with an album that doesn't embarrass their long history. Some of the cuts on this record will remind you of the Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and Black Album days. Definitely pick this one up if you're a fan of Metallica or the genre in general.
