This is easily one of the most well balanced battery powered bluetooth speakers on the market. Crisp highs and strong bass. This is the next best thing to having a high powered component system. It doesn't produce a room rumble like a home theater system would, but it still sounds great. I am using mine like computer speakers to sit in front of my laptop. It sounds much better than laptop speakers. It would also be great to take outdoors for background music at a party or pool where there might not be power. I especially like how they left the speaker magnet is exposed on the back like a bass port. When songs start pumping you can see the magnet bounce.

I went to my local Best Buy a couple weeks ago looking for a clean sounding wireless speaker to use when I'm not in the mood to wear headphones. I listened to every speaker they had at my local store and wasn't really thrilled with any of the choices. Disappointed, I went back home and pulled up the Best Buy website to see if there were any other speakers offered online. That's when I found the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 4, and it was even on sale for $150! The reviews here on Best Buy were very positive and I thought it was definitely worth a look. I raced back down to my local Best Buy wondering why I did not remember seeing that speaker only to find that none were out on display, although there was an entire pallet of them on the end of the aisle. I rolled the dice and took a chance buying the speaker without ever listening to it, hoping it was really as nice as the reviews stated. While in the checkout line, the Best Buy agent helping me started raving about what an amazing speaker I was about to buy and how everyone at that store LOVES that speaker! He wasn't kidding - this speaker is the best sounding wireless speaker I have ever listened to. I loved it so much that I went and bought a second one the next morning to pair them together in a stereo arrangement using the HK app. I can't even begin to express how much I love these speakers!! Great sound, beautiful contemporary look, super easy to use and a fantastic bargain when on sale.

The Harman Onyx looks awesome on my shelf! It sounds good - the bass seems pushed a bit, but not as much as a Bose. At first, it turned itself off a couple times during playback and I've read that it can be an issue, but it hasn't done that in a while. I'd say that - aside from the shut-off issue - it is definitely worth a sub-$200 price. However, the value is certainly not there at the regular suggested price of over $400. Like I said, it sounds good, and gets loud enough (plugged in), and the battery life is good, but I'd be hard pressed to choose this over a Bose Revolve or JBL Xtreme that come in over $100 less. The unique shape of this makes it very attractive to me and combined with the sound and the sale price made it a "must-buy" for me.

I got it during 2018 Black Friday for 139.99. For this price, it's a wonderful bluetooth speaker. It connects well, has good battery life off charge, and sounds really good for the size of the speaker. The original price tag is 450, and I'd say it's not worth getting if you're paying that much. Other things to note: -It is lighter than it looks. It has a handle on the back of the top that is easy to hold on to. Great portability. -The overall balance of sound is good from lows-mids-highs. It has nice clarity also. (all aspects considered from the price I paid). -Love the design. It's very modern and sleek. -Volume is great. Definitely good enough for single room. For me, it was an excellent purchase. My only problem is the original price tag. It does not feel or sound as if it should cost 450 dollars. Wait for sales.

Bass, volume, and fullness of sounds at higher volumes. Most bluetooth speakers automatically equalize the audio to have less and less bass as audio volume is tuned up in order to provide louder audio, less distortion, and generally a more pleasant experience. These speakers keep the bass and fullness going till almost at the top volume. Additionally, the bass extension is much deeper. This thing probably is clean and loud down to about 60hz or so, making most kick drums and bass really audible and not locking. Most bluetooth speakers roll off at moderate volumes well before 100hz-150hz or so. Audio isn't perfect, and there are a couple of holes in the frequency response in what sounds like the 100hz region, but a very pleasant audio experience. Note that this unit is somewhat large, and not easy to transport due to it's shape. Weighs quite a bit as well. When it is plugged into a power source to charge/play, audio output is MUCH better, as power to the 4 drivers inside is 15watts x 4 driver instead 7.5 watts x 4 drivers (as listed by HK). Negatives: The stereo pairing of two units for true stereo audio requires the HK Connect App, and requires a lot of fidgeting to work each time. It is not consistent and can be frustrating to use the app as it sometimes requires several power off/on cycles of the speaker to get it to recognize properly with the app (have found you'll know it's properly recognized when the power level of each speaker is displayed in the app). The Sony XB series is definitely much more intuitive here and can do it all with the buttons, making it more future-proof. When paired as a stereo pairs, where one unit is the left a speaker and one unit is the right, the audio and stereo separation are quite good. Couple other notes, there is a power adapter that charges and/or provides power while playing. It is a separate power brick and power cord that plugs into a standard 110v household outlet, and then plugs into the speaker via a barrel plug at 19v DC. There is also a 3.5mm line input jack and another jack and that I haven't used. The speaker grill/cloth material doesn't seem like it'd be the most durable. Audio occasionally stutters when changing or skipping tracks/songs manually, though if you pay a whole playlist it's hardly noticeable.

Exchanged the LG PK5 for this, as the LG just didn't get loud enough. The Onyx 4 gets pretty loud, and it's the largest bluetooth speaker I've seen, without getting into the wheeled lamps and such. It sits well on the rubber feet, doesn't move around even with heavy bass action, and I listen to trance, house and electronic music in general, which has a lot of bass. Today I got my first big use of the speaker, working in a warehouse. The speaker has to contend with forklifts and compactor noise, along with vent fans in the roof. Not terribly noisy, but enough where most of the smaller speakers can't get loud enough. Anyhow, I had the volume about 2/3rds the way up, battery lasted 4 hours, might've gone longer but the power light was blinking red, indicating low battery. 4 hours seems fair given the power this speaker has, running at 30 watts on battery, compared to most others being 20 watts at most, that I've seen. Plugged in, it'll put out 60 watts, so it can get even louder, which I can appreciate in my work environment. On battery it was plenty loud, not even maxed out, and guys across the warehouse could hear it. It's amazing how crisp and clear it sounds, even at higher volumes. Which with it being a Harman product, one would certainly expect it to. I've only had the speaker for a day, though so far has impressed me, and at one time it was a $450 speaker, now can be had for $130. Well worth it so far!

This is my third small speaker that I own. The first two are Bose, one bluetooth and one that still had the dock for the iPhone 5. Both of those are really good and do the job but there are two major differences between them: First is the bass, the H/K is by far better than the Bose, mainly because of how and where H/K designed and installed it. The other is the volume; the H/K gets loud real quick, I've yet to go up to half way on my iPod because it's too loud for me. If this thing is still on sale, or goes on sale again (I bought it for $200 off, I think?) definitely grab it! You won't be sorry!

after nearly a year of owning this speaker, i finally decided to write a review. about 5 minutes ago, i was cleaning out my car and ended up setting the speaker on top of the car. after i finished cleaning, i got to thinking. i need face wash from walgreens. well, what do i do? i go to walgreens. after getting halfway down my street, i hear a loud bang on top of my car. again, what did i do? i left the speaker on top of the car. there i go, looking in the rear view wondering what was going on. there i see my poor onyx studio 4 laying in the middle of the street. i put it in reverse like terry so quickly so to save it. it does in fact have scratches. the rubber ring around the speaker did pop out a bit, but i was able to push it right back in. here i am, freaking out thinking that it is broken. but no, it works perfectly. although i do not suggest throwing across the street, if a situation like this happens to you, i strongly believe that everything will be okay.

Yeah, that’s right. At first we owned a mini version of the speaker and were absolutely blown away by how amazing that speaker is. So we decided to get the big one and we could not be any happier. The amount of range and strength the speaker has is incredible. And on top of that you get multiple ones and you can link them all together via Bluetooth. We were able to get ours on sale for around 150 and it is a steal for that. I would highly recommend the speaker it is the best Bluetooth speaker on the market hands down!

I bought this for my wife for Christmas. She wanted a good bluetooth speaker for about 100 bucks. So when I started researching for a good speaker I wasn't even looking at this because it cost 200 dollars. So I just put it and the save for later and didnt think nothing of it. I did read all the reviews plus read all the reviews on the bose. If price didn't matter this is one I would of bought over the bose. But before black friday even came around this product went on sale for 89.99. In boy did I jump on it. I purchased this speaker in October. My wife loves it ! in the Sound will Blow you Away. Its loud and clear and the bass is unbelievable gotta hear it to believe it. Best speaker on the market worth ever penny. On sale or not you won't be disappointed Thank You Best Buy. I Will reccomend this speaker to anybody looking for a bluetooth speaker. A must Buy !!! Give it a 10 out of 5!!

Very pricey speaker, but thankfully there was a great sale on cyber Monday. These speakers have incredible sound, as well as booming bass. A little bulky for a portable speaker, but the volume that it can reach makes it worth it. Battery life is sub-par. All in all, I would recommend these if you are looking for a high quality speaker. If you are looking for something more portable, I would get something a little smaller.

I own a car dealership in north Atlanta, and my detail guy always had loud music when he was cleaning up cars, but I always wondered what he listened to it through because the quality was so incredible. Sure enough, it was this speaker. We’re talking about a 2200 square foot garage where he washed cars with pressure washers, loud fans, loud buffers and somehow this speaker never failed to over power all of it. We could hear his music all the way across our shop and almost into the actual dealership itself. I’m an audio nut, so I bought my Mercedes with the Harmon Kardon sound system, so I knew what to expect and boy on boy when I picked this thing up from Best Buy I was blown away!!! LITERALLY. I use this in my backyard when I’m cutting grass and it lights up my entire yard with sound. We’ve used it for pool parties. When I’m taking a shower, my speaker is blasting music. When I’m cleaning my car in my driveway, my speaker is going. Or if I’m just at home cleaning my house my speaker is going. And now, my neighbors hate me and my family and friends keep trying to steal it from me when I’m not at home!! Hahah!! And now they want to know where to buy one!! It’s that great. The bass is so deep it shakes any walls it’s around, the sound is so clear and crisp, and it goes extremely loud. I haven’t heard amplifiers like this quite alone a speaker!! It truly is amazing. I’m almost mad I didn’t pay more for it, because Harmon Kardon should be charging an arm and leg for this thing based on the pure quality. But they aren’t. I’ve since bought two more for the family and just to keep around the house. Absolutely incredible!!!! You will NOT be disappointed at all, whatsoever.

This speaker is powerful. We saw that it was on a great couldn't pass up deal, and after reading reviews and watching videos we decided to take a chance on this in Lieu of the Home Pod. Although it's not a smart speaker like the Home Pod (we were never interested in its "smart" ability.), we just wanted it for the sound. Well my goodness we were instantly blown away because this does the job, and we spent wayyyyyyy less than if we had pre-ordered Apples new "first" generation toy, not knowing anything about it. If you are looking for a portable speaker I suggest looking at this one. Once charged it holds charge for a long time. I have not timed it but I spent several days using it unplugged for hours and it's still going. However, you can keep it plugged in and it will play until your hearts content. Once again it's not a smart speaker so if thats what you are looking for, this isn't it but if you want a portable clear sound and deep bass, this is for you. If you can get it on SALE (like we did), get one or two for less than the price of one! but if not and you have the $450 it's worth a try.

For a portable speaker that weighs just a few pounds these things are awesome, I bought two and the L R channel option works great and they are easy to link together. A few of these and perhaps a Bluetooth sub woofer and you’d have enough to irritate the neighbors in any appartment building!
