Great HD Radio - Excellent Price

I live about 20 miles or so from Philly and all the staions are in HD. HD reception is great, it doesn't fade unless it goes back to analog. Analog is ok, can be too sensitive. I have a pair of my own earbuds do I didn't bother with the ones that came with it. Battery life is great. What is nice is that it still receives the RBDS in analog mode. Excellent price, most HD radios are over $100 and they are not easlily portable, this one is. When it switches between HD and analog, that gets a littles annoying. Overall a good product to buy.

This has been the greatest product I have ever bought and used. I was amazed by the sound quality of the earbuds that came with it. It sounds great in the car through the MP3 input and receives the HD channels everywhere I drive. I use it now rather than the standard tuner. I am lucky that Pittsburgh, PA has a good selection of HD signals. The HD channels do not come in at work, but it receives the analog portion better than any other radio I have tried to use there. The battery lasts for at least 8 hours and charges quickly. I can even charge it in the car since it uses the same plug as my GPS units. I wish I had found this a long time ago. This should be in the stores, so that more people could discover it. I have shown it to every one at work and they all want one. I was so impressed that I bought one for my daughter and she likes it for the bus ride to and from school.

A Neat Little Device for Listening at work

I enjoy listening to sports talk radio and decided to pick up an HD radio because my favorite station has been advertising their new HD station. I, like many of you, found the cheapest portable available. I am very critical of electronics, but I can honestly say that this is a great product. I believe the current price tag is due to low popularity of HD radio. However, if you are looking for a neat little radio that is small and looks nice, this is your radio.
Pros:
-Small size
-Attractive design
-Optional work-out band included
-Rechargeable battery
-Price
-Easy to use
Cons:
-Sometimes signal gets weak while inside (usually a few 10 second periods everyday)
-screen could be bigger

Good access to HD Radio at modest price

I have had the HD radio for more than a year, and I'm more than pleased with it. Reception is good the signals are steady. We are fortunate to have 3 public radio stations, each having HD signals that also provide alternative channels that offer different programs. The commercial stations serve up their usual pablum. I often plug the radio into the car radio and enjoy having the HD access. Signal degredation is infrequent until I get beyond urban areas. I think that battery life (<10 hrs) could be longer - I get nearly 18 hrs out of my MP-3 player. And, while l like the arm band for warm weather walking, a design that would allow a lanyard would offer flexibility. And, EQ controls could help for differences among earphones. For HD radio there is no better price value.

I bought this primarily for use on my motorcycle. It is an excellent product that works exceptionally well! I now use it at home very regularly lounging at home and around the house. It is very small and portable / has good sound quality and pulls in a good reception.
HD radio is so cool - I couldnt believe the number of channels it makes available to you. It also pulls in most local AM channels as HD channels - so you have the range COVERED as far as radio goes. People complain it's not an MP3 player - BIG DEAL - it's $50.00 - and is not meant to be an MP3 player. If you need an MP3 and HD player in one, buy the Zune HD and pay 250-300 dollars. Or........
Buy the Insignia for 50.00 and then a cheap IPOD.
Only negatives -
1. The earbuds are cheap - nuff said.
2. It had no AC charger - the USB charger works great however and the unit charges exceptionally quickly!
Buy it and smile.............

Really enjoyed this radio during its short life; it was easy to charge, program, had great sound, and excellent reception. After three months it started freaking out - sounded like a CD that was stuck and skipping, and it refused to respond to any commands...it would only shut off when the battery died.
It also does not do AM - it should.

Great first HD radio purchase

I have no other portable HD radios to compare this product to since this is my first into HD radio listening. What I can compare it to is a standard MP3 player with a radio tuner that I've been listening to.
For a device that's relatively cheap, and is really just another radio picking up the local stations in the Nashville area, I can say that the sound quality is a great improvement over the regular tuner I was using.
Simple comparison is the digital TV over- the- air change if you've gotten a digital anntena recently. Just a great improvement.
Not every single station will be listenable, but a lot are, and when they are they're clear and static free, no jinking around with the ear plug wires trying to eliminate the static.
I was hesitant to take the step, but am glad to have went ahead and tried it. Absolutely better, no doubt. The device is simple, presets and all. The nice part as well is the option of displaying the station and song title or artist on the display depending on the type of signal broadcast.

Great Little Device!

This is a wonderful little HD Radio! Small enough to be on my over-crowded desk at work, yet it brings in the channels great! (Even in the building I'm in, which doesn't bring in most regular radio stations!) It's screen is a nice size which I can easily read. And the sound quality is wonderful. I just wish LA had more HD radion stations!
The price is also great for an HD Radio. And I'm discovering that is true of all the Insignia products. I have 3 so far myself, but I know that I'll be getting more. Great quality for great equipment!

I've only had the radio for approximately 2 weeks, but so far I'm lovin' it! My reception and sound are great. The size is perfect. Love the armband. Nice product for the price, and a good choice to test out an hd radio.
I use it the longest on the weekends. Usually only charge it once a week. Good battery life. I only wish I could use something other than my computer to charge it.

Works well, gets many local stations

This has to be the lowest cost HD radio available. I wanted HD because many of the local stations use HD2 and HD3 for other versions of their stations. For example, NPR has talk radio on HD1, classical on HD2, and Groove Salad on HD3, for no extra cost.
Reception for me depends on what stations I am trying to get. Some stations have antennas in the south part of the county, and others in the north. I am closer to the south antennas so I get those stations clearly, but the north antennas are harder to receive from, especially when inside an office building. I have a long 3.5mm headphone extension cable plugged in, which seems to make the indoor reception better, since the headphone cable acts as the antenna.
Everything about it works fine, with one exception. At my desk I like the LCD display to be always on. The display menu allows this option, but every time I turn it off and back on again it forgets that setting. The setting is still always on, but the display turns off after about 20 seconds. In order to get it always on again I must go to the menu, change it to some other value, and then change it back to always on.
If you have large biceps the armband that comes with it doesn't have a long enough Velcro strap. I mostly use it at my desk or just put it in my pocket when walking. Prior to this I used a RadioShark from my desk, and my phone for walking, but there is no RadioShark HD available yet, so this is the next best choice.

I am a daily walker & this is just the perfect radio for me. I was not looking for anything fancy, just wanted a radio that would pick up my favorite station. The size is very good, fits in a pocket easily or can be carried in my hand easily, very lightweight. The sound quality is excellent! I like the fact that it is rechargeable. I highly recommend it!

I've used this HD radio for 2 weeks now and works great. I live half way between two metro areas so there are plenty of HD stations, many with "secondary/specialty" signals. I use the radio on the commuter bus to work each day. Some HD signals fade during the trip and drop completely, like digital signals are apt to do. The radio automatically switches to analog and continues to pick up stronger stations albeit with less quality. I have used my cell phone chargers, both Blackberry and Motorola, with no problems. The battery appears to have a good charge life. I wish it had an AM band as many sporting events still live only in the AM world.

I've fought with radio reception at work forever, and the station i listen to at work, 1310 the ticket is unlistenable at work on my little am radio. luckily they simulcast on an hd-2 fm signal, strong signal at work, can finally get the ticket! lot of other hd and hd-2 signals in the metroplex come in strong and clear and the audio difference is awesome. if you're in dfw and cant stream the ticket from work....this is the answer. great price too, cant find a tabletop hd for cheaper, and this one you can take in your car

I am reviewing Version 01.00.00 of this product (as displayed on the Menu)
This gadget is a cheap and easy way to see what all the fuss is about HD Radio. If you want to listen at home or in the office and don't want to spend the hassle getting your car stereo replaced, this is an option. You'll need to plug it into a mini USB cable to charge it for a few minutes after you take it out of the box.
The RF performance is not too shabby, the antenna is the headphones or whatever wire you have plugged in to the device. So sometimes to pick up analog FM stations properly you have to move the unit and your headphone wire all over the place.
The HD Radio performance is what I would expect out of such a relatively small device with a tiny antenna (the headphone wire). It picks up all the HD Radio channels that are listed on the HD Radio station guide for my city. There are occasionally artifacts or clipping, but overall the performance is good in my eyes.
The sound quality of the HD chanels is only as good as the radio station can compress it, it'll sound the same no matter which HD radio you play it back on. If the station is broadcasting 3 HD subchannels, they have to compress each one more to make it fit into the frequency, so those channels may have a lower fidelity sound to them. Again, this is not a fault of the device.
The radio does not offer enough preset slots. It has 10, but I see no reason a simple firmware update couldn't fix this. They could potentially bring it up to 99 if they wanted.
Sometimes you will see a brief error when switching to HD-1/2/3 presets that you have made ("Channel no longer available") but shortly thereafter it soon remembers how to reset back to that channel. Again, could possibly be fixed with a firmware update.
Let's hope that they eventually provide a way to hack these devices, update the firmware, etc. Otherwise, you need to purchase the 2 year Black Tie Protection for $9.99 in case failures occur, as this device only comes with a 90-day Parts & Labor warranty.
Add more presets and an AM tuner and this device would be even better.

Live on the edge of town and this little radio picks up more stations than any of the 3 previous high dollar trys for quality reception. It is exceptionally stable, even on analog FM stations. The little ear speakers have super low base response. Cost is low becasue it does not come with a charger, but I use my computer USB port or my cell phone charger and it is full in about 1.5 hrs. The arm band is not elegant, and won't stay up in Texas heat. A lanyard hole would be an improvement, but for now using velcro on the back. Thanks Insignia for a really fine radio!

I was surprised with the sound of this little radio it sounded like a big home entertainment system, it has really beep bass sounds. I like the LCD screen it tells the artist and song info, and other info sent from the radio station, like the weather and events around town, its a really cool Radio I am almost 100% satisfied with it, the only downfall is there is no AM radio band, and AM also has HD channels. I have an HD radio in my car now for four years I love it. I have been waiting for a personal HD radio Now I have one. Thanks.

Very small, quick way to charge with a USB port. Noticed very sensitive- better than my Accurian HD recvr. Good audio but no way to change settings. Wish it had a clock. One good plus is that you can save a HD-2, 3 as a memory channel. I like the unit!!! Thinking about buying another as a spare. I DO recommend this!! It is what it is- a portable FM radio only but DOES show RDS on non-HD stations-NICE! Super-cool display also! I would have given 5 Stars if you could change the battery and change audio settings. Still a very nice unit!

Effective Portable HD Radio Player

Reception is relative to your location and is best used on your person outside.
Indoor reception decreases dramatically (ie: inside a gym or office building).
When you get a good signal, you get great audio. Mini usb charging is great, std 3.5mm jack headphones act as the antenna, unit is small and fits in the palm of your hand. HD sub-channels (broadcaster-specific) are a cool bonus to the increased sound quality.
For the price, it's a great way to experiment with HD Radio.

I've really enjoyed my Insignia HD Radio. I have figured out how to hook it up to my truck's speakers, and with a little help I've learned how to charge its battery through an AC outlet. I use it constantly, and find many new local (Dallas-Fort Worth) channels not available on FM. It's certainly worth the low price. (I gave it to myself for Christmas.)
