Disturbing atmosphere

A deeply atmospheric film which draws Marlow (and the viewer) inexorably from the environs of recognized civilization into relative barbarity, made all the more savage by a colonial agent, Kurtz, gone mad. While generally satisfying, I feel the end of the movie is too short. More explicit examples of Kurtz's decent into madness and his savagery as a 'god' would have been welcome. Those references are too brief, and sometimes only oblique, to fulfill the promise of the rest of an otherwise striking film.
