Night Ranger delivers a very good album. This CD contains all new material. This album has many strong songs on it, and reminded of the old days when I listened to it. It also sounds modern too. The DVD was a good bonus which includes a video of the title track and interviews with the band.

Night Ranger continue to make new music, but are able to keep the sound that they are best known for. That is quality AOR!! HIGH QUALITY!! Great CD, DVD is a bonus. Would love to have seen a full length concert DVD. Still, it is great to see them continue to play.

The first two tracks off the album (High Road and Knock Knock Never Stop) are getting a lot of attention, and rightly so. Those two songs are scorchers, and I bought the CD based upon how great those two singles are. Unfortunately, the rest of the album lacks the "punch" that those first two tracks have. Don't get me wrong, the other the songs aren't bad, but they aren't great either; they're just OK. I was hoping that the entire album would be as good as those first two songs, so it was somewhat of a letdown. The Best Buy bonus track is the best-of-the-rest, so if you do buy the CD, I'd recommend the Best Buy exclusive version.

This CD has three or four really great tracks but a lot of songs that are just average. The songs I did like made the purchase worthwhile however.

A great follow up CD to Somewhere In California and really one of the best pieces of work. Holds up well with their finest work in the 1980's.

Solid effort from one of my favorite bands. I hope they continue to record. Only sold in deluxe version. I would have preferred a regular edition.

Another great release from this awesome Nor-Cal band. Not as edgy as their first two releases but, still a solid cd. Love it!

    Night Ranger Is BACK!

This is a GREAT effort across the board. Night Ranger fans are going to LOVE this and 'casual' fans, (who like/know only a couple of hits from the 80's), may find themselves surprised. I can't stop listening to it. And a couple of the songs I originally thought were 'okay' have actually grown into the ones I keep playing over and over. I've been a Night Ranger fan since I first heard, "Sing Me Away" in 1982. However, some efforts, such as "Neverland", "Seven" and even "Hole In the Sun", while they had good points, weren't good Night Ranger albums from start to finish. Most of the content in those, I personally cold leave behind without a second thought. It's like they were trying to be 'current' for that time period more than they were being Night Ranger. I don't think a lot of fans appreciated it. (That whole "Feeding Off The Mojo" fiasco doesn't even count as Night Ranger.) Then, with "Somewhere In California", we saw the return of the signature Night Ranger sound and an album that is good from start to finish; and that continues here. Night Ranger is BACK! Classic Jack, Brad and Kelly! ...And Joel Hoekstra and Eric Levy are a great fit for the band. (Jeff WHO? Alan WHO??) ;-) The title track, "High Road" is "classic" Night Ranger. A high energy, feel-good song. You've gotta drive with the windows down when you listen to this one. And just try not to smile doing it! "Knock Knock Never Stop" is another classic Night Ranger style of tune. I hate to be redundant, but it's also a high energy song that just makes you feel unstoppable when you listen to it. Unmistakably Night Ranger! "Rollin' On" is a pretty hard rocking tune. Really good guitar work in this and it has a driving beat. The song incorporates a chant that will have you bobbing your head, shouting along and pumping your fist. And if it wasn't fast and hard enough for you to start with, about 3 minutes and 11 seconds into it, Kelly kicks in the drums even more and the tempo picks up! That's my favorite part of that song. This whole CD has tempo changes that you aren't expecting and instead of throwing the songs off...they WORK. "Don't Live Here Anymore" is haunting. Kelly has lost nothing vocally over the decades. He belts out this tune like only he can. I think the song may be about addiction recovery. At the very least, it's about growing and redemption and change for the better. The first time I heard it, I was thinking it was okay, but that it wouldn't be one I'd go back to often. But I was wrong. I keep finding myself singing it when I'm not playing any music. And if the lyrics aren't haunting enough, the bluesy guitar in this tune will pierce your soul. It feels like a ballad at the beginning and it turns into this...soulful, bluesy, rock thing; that comes back around to a beautiful ending with just Kelly's vocals and Eric's piano. "I'm Coming Home" is a pretty cool tune. It builds to a nice groove and has some classic Night Ranger elements to it. I like it. But I don't know what else to say about this one. It's a good tune. "X Generation" is a good, rocking song. It does have hints of the "Neverland" era mixed in, though; primarily with Jack's vocal style. That's not a bad thing. Just a little different than what is heard on this body of work. There's this odd bridge and I think it's Kelly doing the vocals that are more spoken than sung, (you'll see - it's a weird microphone thing). That's different...and the way it kicks back into the song, is pretty sweet. "Only For You Only" is a ballad. And, oh, wow...what a song! Jack sings this perfectly. When it comes down to it, the song is about being committed to a relationship to one person. It's a beautiful, strong, moving song. "Hang On" is a good rocking tune. Like the whole CD, it's got a positive vibe to it. "St. Bartholomew" starts off with a driving beat and some strong bass. Then it really kicks in. Good tune. Love the bass in this song. "Brothers" is a great example of classic song writing. It's different from anything else on the album. Uplifting, almost spiritual, in its lyrical content. This song could've been a hit in the early to mid 70's, (pre-Disco); but it doesn't sound dated. ...You'll see. It's a fantastic song about support and friendship. Not like anything that I've heard from Night Ranger before, but it fits on this album and it's almost like having 'church' with some friends in the middle of the CD, particularly with the harmonies and Kelly's interjections at the end. I first heard "L.A. No Name" a couple of years ago when Brad and Joel played it live at Epcot. I've been waiting on them to put it on an album ever since. I was hoping it would've been on the "24 Strings And A Drummer" CD, (great live, acoustic CD/DVD combo, by the way!); but it wasn't. I was glad to find it on this release. It's some cool, acoustic guitar work by Brad and Joel. Almost Jazzy. Night Ranger's first instrumental. "Mountain Song" is also a good song. It's a good, rocking tune; but not as heavy as "Rollin' On". But it's definitely got some good guitar work on it. "Don't Even Know Your Name" is a Best Buy exclusive bonus song. They (Best Buy) got a good one for their exclusive. They should thank Night Ranger for that! This song has a very catchy hook to it. At first listen, it had me tapping my foot and I knew I was going to like it. And the keyboard work in this reminds me of some classic Styx stuff. Another 'classic Night Ranger' tune. One of the lyrics in this song is, "You've got me hooked!" ...How apropos! What a great song to finish the CD with. I'm hooked. Overall, this is a REALLY good body of work by Night Ranger. I was so happy with "Somewhere In California" that I didn't think it could be topped. Well...they topped it. One of the best Night Ranger albums ever produced...and I've been around for all of them and I'm critical enough to say what's good and what isn't. This one is fantastic. If you're not a Night Ranger fan, I think you'll be impressed with this CD. If you ARE a Night Ranger fan, I think you'll be impressed with this CD. If you are a 'casual' Night Ranger fan, (meaning you like "Sister Christian", "When You Close Your Eyes", "Sentimental Street", "Goodbye" and the classic stuff), then I think you'll enjoy this, as well. If you've never really cared for Night Ranger, I'd still say give this one a try. (Unless you only like Country music. This ain't no Country album! LOL) But this CD shows the synergy between the band members and has not only strong bass, drums, guitar, keyboards and vocals; but great lyrical content. This CD is really the total package and is every bit a Night Ranger album! One weird thing about my Best Buy copy that I feel I should mention: In both the CD player on my laptop and in my car, it lists song 11 as "Mountain Song", song 12 as, "Lay It On Me (Live)" and song 13 isn't named. The tracks are, in fact, exactly what they are listed as on the cover, ("L.A. No Name", "Mountain Song" and "Don't Even Know Your Name"); but the tracks themselves are not labeled correctly on the CD. Keep that in mind, in case yours arrives like that. (A copy I received from another retailer had everything labeled correctly - BUT it doesn't have "Don't Even Know Your Name", which is a Best Buy exclusive.) No big deal...just don't freak out if you pop your new Night Ranger CD from Best Buy in your CD player and find the last few songs not matching the song list on the CD jacket. (Apparently the live M3 version of "Lay It On Me" is part of the European release of this album.)
