Hisense - 55" Class - LED - H8F Series - 2160p - Smart - 4K UHD TV with HDR What do you get when you replace an early-2000’s $2000 Sony 41” “dumb” TV with this new $500 Hisense “smart” TV? That’s what I did, and the answer is: Lots and lots, including: • A much larger screen for a bolder, richer viewing experience • Higher resolution with full HD and Dolby HDR • Also includes the highly-desirable 4K Ultra High Definition • Android TV with built-in apps • Voice-response via Google Assistant • Better sound with two 10W main channel speakers • Four HDMI inputs for connecting all your HDMI gadgets • Two USB ports for connecting your USB devices • Built-in Bluetooth • Built-in wifi, • Internet access via your existing network using either wifi or the Ethernet port To get up and running as soon as possible, and to make sure I was aware of all of the features of this new TV, I chose to use Best Buy’s Geek Squad for the installation. Initially, Geek Squad scheduling let me choose a four-hour appointment window which they narrowed down to a two-hour window the day before the scheduled installation. Finally, on the day of the appointment, Michael, my assigned installer, called to let me know they were on the way. Upon arrival, Michael and Rob proceeded to unbox the TV and go through the installation and setup in a thoroughly professional manner, including connecting the TV to my wifi network and then doing all of the TV updates via the internet. They also did the required scan for all of my available cable channels. They obviously knew what they were doing and had me up and running in a very short time. Whenever a choice of one of the available setup options was needed, Michael explained my choices and then implemented them. Before they left, they made sure they had answered all of my questions. That was a very pleasant experience, and I would highly recommend the Geek Squad choice for anyone who hasn’t done an installation like this on their own before. The well-designed remote even includes a button to initiate voice commands for the built-in Google Assistant. Michael from Geek Squad also programmed my old TV remote to make sure that I could choose between the new remote or the old remote that I was already comfortable with. Nice touch. However, when all is said an done, the real enjoyment comes from the remarkable viewing experience you get from both the sheer size and the vivid HD and UHD picture you get on this TV. While there are many more expensive TVs on the market, I think this $500 unit will satisfy most viewers, and that includes me. IMO, it’s an excellent choice for the money.

I have only had this TV for a month . This TV quality is great but overall, the tv is a two star. If i could return it, i would fork out a little to get a better TV. This TV would freeze on me when it would be on idle for 10+ mins. I would try to press any button on the remote but it still remains frozen on the screen saver. Also, I tried turning off the tv with the power button on the TV, even holding the button, but that doesn't work either. I would have to unplug and plug the TV. This TV does have a lot of apps to download, but the speed is little to okay when using. Also, when I was watching tv one day, one side of the tv light became dim???? and i tried to adjust the light in the settings but that didnt work so i had to turn off and on the tv. I guess the answer to all your problems is to turn off the TV and get a new one.

I am shocked on how much I really loves this TV. Hisense was not on my list until I started doing research online and stopping at stores when I was in the area. I had it Nailed down to a TCL 50 inch, a 50inch Vizio quantum and the Hisense. Better bang for my buck. The Hisense is a smart TV I would definitely buy again!

    Practically unusable with 4K content

I bought this because of the competing price and the frame rate. I do not recommend you do the same. The operating system is fine, the design is aesthetically pleasing and it fits very nicely into my setup. The problem is the picture quality. The pixels start flickering and the image becomes fuzzy when watching Dolby Vision or 4K HDR content. The problem is less noticeable when I use an external device (HDR Blu-ray Player or my 2160p Mac Mini), but it becomes almost unwatchable with dark and closeup content on Netflix like “Ozark.” I would have spent a few extra dollars and bought a different brand if I had known this. In fact, if I didn’t throw away the box, I would’ve already returned it. I’ll be surprised if I keep it much longer. All in all, save your time. Go a different route.

Pretty good picture quality for HDR and Dolby Vision. I have tested the TV with both of these technologies using Netflix, UHD Blu-rays with Dolby Vision (where applicable), and other HDR type content. Dolby Vision looks phenomenal on this TV, and this is where the TV shines. The 55H8F is surprisingly lighter than other 55” TVs I have come across, making it easy to mount to a wall, or setting on a stand using the included base. It does require a little bit of tweaking for the best picture quality if not using an HDR/DV source. Otherwise, it’s more or less plug and play. The 55H8F is at a great price point and picture wise can hold its own against higher priced TVs offering similar features. While I personally prefer the Android TV interface, it can be sluggish sometimes. I feel this is due to having a limited amount of storage (4GB) and conservative amount of RAM. You can add more storage with a USB flash drive, as long as you plan on keeping it always connected to one of the USB ports. One of the downsides that I can’t look past is that the corners of the display are noticeably darker than the rest of the display. I think it’s a great TV on a budget, and delivers many features that are normally only found on others’ flagship models. I would recommend the 55H8F is you are looking for a great feature filled 4k television that won’t break the bank.

Great picture but thats about it. It was a 2020 model tv with Android 9 installed on it...9. Diving into the software settings revealed the last firmware released for this TV was in 2019, a YEAR before this TV was wven released which tells me 1 thing. That Hisense KNEW that the Android 9 TV OS was super sluggish, unresponsive and crashed frequently and just didnt care enough to do anything about it. Sure this model is discontinued and a reciew at this time is completely worthless but why not.

While the picture is great, I did not realize how slow the tv would become. It has gotten worse over the past fewonths and now must be physically un-plugged from the wall every few days to get it to turn on.
