This is probably not the most objective review, as I absolutely adored this show when it debuted on Kids WB in the late 90s and have held fond memories of it since it left the air. Histeria! was an ambitious idea, a combination of history, cartoons, and sketch comedy. Those are three things I love, so it was a show seemingly made just for me. I was thrilled to see Histeria! finally hit DVD and hopeful that my fond memories of it were not simply nostalgia. I am happy to say that the show holds up very well for the most part. Some of the sketches do miss, but that is the nature of sketch comedy. The good sketches far outnumber the bad, and even some of the bad ones are admirably ambitious. A good number of the show's pop culture references are quite dated, which is also understandable. It is nearly 20 years old now and many of the jokes and references in this show were aimed above its intended young audience to begin with. You will have to be of a certain age to understand that George Washington is being played with the voice and persona of Bob Hope, but if you are of that age, it is very funny. Dated as some of them are, the jokes in Histeria! are sharply-written and often hilarious. There is some wonderful music in the show as well, and some of the show's best sketches are musical numbers (see "The Invasion Song" and "That's The Story That's Told By The Bard"). One other thing to note, this set does not include the controversial Spanish Inquisition "Convert or Die" sketch which was pulled after its initial airing (it later ran online). In its place is the "Custer's Last Stand" sketch that was aired in the show's reruns. I would have liked it if both had been provided, perhaps my only disappointment with this set. If you enjoyed this show back when it came out, or find the combination of animation, history, and sketch comedy intriguing, this is easily worth the price.
