I have two other external hard drive (both of WD), I needed one portable. My conflict was should I take another WD – I was happy with them or I should take something else. I was looking for something under 100$. With the 160GB passport WD I read mixed opinions. The geek squad experts did say that they had a few WD returned- it has some problem with Mac, and very few with PC’s. Taking into consideration that Hitachi is making the most of the hard drives for laptops- they should be better in this area.

I use both Windows and Apple. First, I purchased SimpleTech 160GB portable drive, which did not work with my Dell desktop. It only worked with Apple for some reason. Outer case of SimpleTech felt cheap. I decided to exchange it with WD Passport, but when I went back to the BestBuy, Hitachi was on sale. I got it at less than $90. No problems using this one with Windows and Apple. It feels very sold. I am very happy that I got this nice looking drive.

The only problem I may have is that if I have to plug both of the USB drivers into one computer especially my laptop, its not going to work since the usb's are on different sides. Other than that .. excellent! Very fast, very small and works like a charm!

This was the easiest I have ever set up a peripheral. True plug and play...worth the investment. Everything should be as easy as this was.
