Really is Fastest Notebook Drive

I bought this hard drive to swap with the stock 80GB drive in my MacBook. I couldn't use the included Hitachi software, so I used Super Duper to clone my drive. The included enclosure is nice, it is not a cheap/poor quality enclosure. The hard drive itself is amazing. My old hard drive was a 80GB, 5400rpm Fujitsu. This Hitachi runs just as cool, it is just as quiet (if not quieter) and consumes about the same amount of power. I was worried that this drive would be too hot for my MacBook or would eat up my battery life. I can't tell a difference in any of those areas. One thing that is different is the speed. I wasn't sure to believe Hitachi's claims that this drive is up to 33% faster than 5400rpm drives. I think that overall performance has increased by about 30%, so it lives up to Hitachi's claims. Everything is so much faster! Safari loads almost instantly and tasks in the iLife suite are noticeably faster.
Bottom Line:
Buy this drive if you want to speed up your sluggish laptop, and add more space at the same time. It won't be long before we start seeing 7200rpm drives stock, in laptops, because the technology has improved. Other than performance, it runs almost the same (if not better) than my stock drive.

This 2.5" laptop hard drive is the fastest drive available on the market. Anyone looking for a SATA notebook hard drive to increase the speed of their notebook should consider this drive first. It is EXTREMELY durable and holds some of the highest shock tolerant values available. 350G of operating shock and 1000G of powered off shock tolerance is incredible. This drive will increase windows/OSX boot times by a significant amount, and the overall performance of your notebook will increase. This is the hard drive to have for anyone concerned with performance.

I had an old 60GB Toshiba drive in my Lenovo X60 system and was getting frustrated waiting for the thing to boot up. I had read reviews on 7200 RPM HDDs and so decided to try one out. The difference in boot up time and overall speed for my system now is really noticable. I am not a power user by any means but in general I notice applications load a lot faster. I bet any power users would really appreciate this drive. I like having the 200GB capacity as well. Good job Hitachi!

Great Drive Upgrade

I dropped my Dell Inspiron a few weeks ago and damaged the HD. It was a 80 GB 5400. I picked this one up and it has been fantastic. It is much faster and obviously has a lot more space. I also noticed that it is cooler. The other HD caused stickers under the computer to peel from the heat.
The USB enclosure was great as well as I was able to salvage most of my music, videos, and pictures from the old drive once I got this one up and running. It may sound stupid but I'm kind of happy I dropped my laptop now.

Absolutely Super Drive!

Upgraded from an 80gb, 5400rpm Hitachi drive on my Dell E1505. The performance difference was VERY noticeable. Boots up Windows Vista (SP1) quickly, and runs programs and games much faster. I've upgraded a lot of drives on my desktop and this jump was one of the most surprisingly good performance boosts I have seen. Temps are moderate, speed is fantastic, and drain on battery seems to be about the same as my old 5400 drive. Noise level is is just a tad bit more, but not too much, but I'm not one who is looking for a super silent notebook any ways. If performance is your goal, this drive is a CAN'T MISS! Check out reviews on Storagereview.com and you'll see that this drive blows other notebook drives away!

I upgraded from the travelstar 5k250 to this travelstar 7k200....and the speed is definitely faster even though the storage was a down grade...i was looking for speed and i got it in this hitachi...the only thing i dont really like is when you turn on or turn off the laptop and it gets stuck in the turnoff menu or the start up window...other than that, i love it and hoping to upgrade again when the 7k320 travelstar comes out. and i definely love the external hard drive upgrade kit. it makes my old travelstar 5k250 hard drive useful....

I put this in my "new" (6months old) Toshiba laptop. The original drive was a 200gig 4200rpm. Wow, what a jump in performance.... I thought that the laptop was slow because of Vista... no, it was the slow OEM hard drive.
The Hitachi hard drive came with an external enclosure and cloning software.... and I was up and running in a little over an hour. I originally thought that I would have to re-install all of my programs & settings.
Now I've got a faster laptop and an extra 200gig of (external) storage.

Great Drive, Bad Software

I have cloned a lot of drives and have never had a problem until I tried to use the included EZ Gig II. It may work well with XP but not with Vista. After several hours and many lockups I finally downloded True Image 11. That worked like a charm. The speed of this drive is incredible. You can really notice the difference between 5400 and 7200 RPM. I highly recommend the drive, just didn't like the software.

Excellent for PS3 upgrade

I upgraded my 60 GB PS3 with this drive after reading several online reviews. The speed boost for loading and saving games is awesome. I would also say that it is at least as quiet if not quieter than the factory drive it replaced. The added USB enclosure is a nice bonus that allows the functional use of your old drive. You do not need to think twice about this upgrade, just make sure to back up your old data and restore it to the new disk.

This is a very good product. It give you plenty of extra space for all of you movies without slowing your pc down. That's why I got it, i had a couple of gigs left on my hard drive but my pc was going slow. I recommend this product because it is easy to install and for around 150 you get 200 gig or one fifth of a terabyte.

This Upgrade Package is an Outstanding Value

Came across this Hitachi product while researching various manufacturers high speed, large capacity (200GB+) hard drive offerings. With a 3-year manufacturer warranty, 7200 rpm disk rotation speed, 16mb cache buffer, an included Apricorn external hard disk enclosure with EZ Gig II software and USB cables, the price on this retail packaged upgrade kit (OEM drives without the Apricorn add-ons end up costing buyers more) is an outstanding value. Easily installed in my Dell Vostro 1700 notebook computer, a pair of these drives runs quieter and more economically than the 5400 rpm drives that are typically supplied by the factory. Given the substantial reductions in boot and software load times that my computer presently exhibits, I am looking forward to seeing how well these drives perform while rendering digital video material that has been edited in Adobe Premiere. Really hope to come across a deal on two more of these drives so that the pair of really neat Apricorn external drive boxes that I now have on hand can be used for additional data storage.

This drive has worked great in my Dell D630 laptop. It has given me plenty of storage at a reasonable price and is noticeably faster than the 5400 RPM i had in before.

Great drive, but I'm just sending it in for a replacement.
This drive is now crashing after closing my notebook computer lid too strongly. The 2nd installed drive (the original 7200 100GB IBM hard drive) is still working with no problems.

I purchased this drive to upgrade from the 60GB drive in my PS3 when it got down to below 10GB of free space and couldn't be more pleased. This drive spins at a much faster RPM (7200 RPM) than the pre-installed drive and has more room than a little bit for all my data. My games load much quicker and runs smoother when accessing information from the drive. It runs extremely quiet also while keeping cool. Been using it now for about a month and haven't had a problem yet. Would definitely recommend.

Not find any improvement compare to the OEM 120G 5400 rpm WD hard drive, but the battery run time drop about 30% with the new hard drive.
The EZ Gig II never work on my NB (Hp dv9000) with Vista, it kept lock up before I could select anything. Eventually, I used the 'Clonezilla' to clone the entire hard drive.
With the price and performance, I won't recommend this hard drive.
