Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) lives a simple life with his fellow hobbits in the shire, until the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) arrives and convinces him to join a group of dwarves on a quest to reclaim the kingdom of Erebor. The journey takes Bilbo on a path through treacherous lands swarming with orcs, goblins and other dangers, not the least of which is an encounter with Gollum (Andy Serkis) and a simple gold ring that is tied to the fate of Middle Earth in ways Bilbo cannot even fathom.

Great acting and cinematography. But adaptation of the book falls short. The action sequences are too long and over the top (like the Goblin King) and not enough focus on drama and character development. The extended edition is a welcome addition but mixed in terms of adding any value to the movie.

Extended edition gave a deeper view of the story and didn't make it feel like a whole new movie was added. The additions were subtle and sometimes I was the only one who noticed their inclusion. Great extras.

Awesome attention to detail. I loved the Hobbit as a kid and read the book again and again and again. I lost count how many times I read it. The movie was just as good as the book.

A must have for your Blu-Ray 3D collection! The special effects jump off the screen! I can't wait until the whole story line is available in 3D.

Great 3d imaging. Movie is good story. But the video imaging and sound is a excellent example of a good bluray disc specially 3d!

But I highly recommend it if you have a 3D TV at home.

Great movie with great acting. I find that a movie is made even better when the right actors are chosen for the various roles. In this case I personally feel the move was made better by a cast of great actors. The returning Gandolf played by Ian Mckellen and the newer faces of Biblo and the dwarfs are all a good edition to the movie. I stress the point that I am not a educated movie critic but I find that the store to this point has followed along with the book as close as possible. Finally, the added bonus for me has been the 3d content. This movie is among only a few that I would say the 3d effect was truly enjoyable. The only downside for me was the film itself is separated between two dvds. Hope my humble opinion serves to promote the purchase of this film.

The story is much more light-hearted than the Lord of the Rings Trilogy but thats not to say there isn't any tension or drama. The film makers did an excellent job of expanding the universe of this fantasy series but the movie is definitely a labor of love. It can be slow in parts but the movie is thoroughly enjoyable and is fun to watch for the entire family. The video and audio are top notch and the 3D is superb. Highly recommended to all with 3D capabilities or anyone who has a bluray player. Must own.

If you likes LOTR you will like this prequel to that story + its so great to see middle earth in all of its 3D glory.

Excellent movie, excellent additional footage. A must for Hobbit fans.
