This movie was a total downer. I thought with the cast it would be good. No. It was not

For a holiday movie; a grave disappointment. Not funny nor does it make sense. Yuk

This is a 5 star movie but the product's picture quality drops the rating down to a 4. Home For the Holidays (1995) has an all star cast; Holly Hunter, Anne Bancroft, Robert Downey Jr. and Charles Durning, that plays a dysfunctional family that functions very well. Dylan McDermott is the handsome and charming mystery man and the aunt and sister are full of drama. Claudia (Hunter) whose life seems like it is unravelling is the glue that holds this family together. Kudos to Jodie Foster for making this great movie. DVD in 1.85:1 format, picture quality could be clearer. I am hoping for a blue ray release of this classic. Includes feature commentary by director and producer Jodi Foster.

Very funny look at an extremely dysfunctional family, and yet I think it eerily hits close to home for most of us. The acting in this was top notch, it felt genuine, as if you were peering in through the window on this family. You were able to sympathize with the main character, and laugh at all the ridiculous things happening on her holiday. Wonderful performance by Robert Downey, Jr. as high-energy brother Tommy. Fun holiday flick for the older members of the family (suggestive content and language make it a bit mature for youngsters.)

Jodie Foster's second film as director (after Little Man Tate) is fantastic, quirky and highly recommended. PQ is decent if not great. There is grain but no jitter and the extras are ported over from the DVD release

MY WHOLE FAMILY LOVES THIS MOVIE. WE HAD THIS IS VHS FOR A WHILE AND JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED THE DVD THIS PAST CHRISTMAS, I THINK HAVING IT ON DVD MADE IT EVEN BETTER. IT REALLY SHOWS HOW SOME CRAZY STUFF HAPPENS AT THE HOLIDAYS.
