Everything is excellent, but no Oculus apps

I have a Note 4, so I was unfortunately one model behind compatibility wise for the latest Gear VR headset. I was able to demo the Gear VR in one of the stores, but couldn't get it to focus enough to want to upgrade (looks like I'm not going to get a Note 7 at the moment anyway). A couple of reviews here stated that the focusing was better on the Homido so I gave it a shot. Worst case scenario is I would just take it back. Well, so far, I absolutely love it. My Note 4 works great and also has an advantage to have a larger screen with a higher resolution. Some of the complaints that I read about not looking good I think are due user's resolution of the phone, and not the quality of the Glasses. I was able to focus just fine with the Note 4. It's well built, and comfortable. The magnet flap issue I've read wasn't an issue for me. I also didn't whip my head around either. The apps are cool (mostly free), but the one downfall that I've seen is the lack of 3rd party support compared to the apps that the Gear/Oculus has. For example, within the Oculus app, there are tons of games and also a Netflix VR setting. So far, it's unavailable for anything else. I have downloaded movies as well, which look great. However, the quality of the file determines how well it will appear on the VR. When it looks like you're watching an IMAX movie in VR, you can see pixels a lot easier than just by looking at the phone with a naked eye. Screen resolution and quality of the file determine how it's going to look when viewing through the Homido. For example, when streaming some Youtube 360 videos, most of them are low quality and do not look impressive when viewing on the Homido. Keep in mind that it's not the physical device that is making it look bad. Use a good quality phone and download some good quality 360 3d pictures. Some of them look so good I almost forget I'm wearing glasses at all. I am only giving 4 stars specifically due to the lack of content available for non-gear devices. Most of the apps are gimmicky and have no more than 5 minutes of usage. I have found some apps that are stunning. One in particular was a 20 minute or so educational app that explained our solar system. Keep those coming and I'll keep using it.

I actually like this Homido VR headset . . but I returned it. You might be interested in my explanation. After a few days of use, I concluded that this Homido is as close to the perfect interpretation of the Google cardboard device as anything out there. It improves on the ability to focus onto the phone screen, it handles the phone mount nicely, it allows for adjusting the inter-pupil distance, it sits reasonably comfortably on your head (if a bit heavy) and it allows quick access to the phone for program selection. It accommodates just about any phone, iOS (my iPhone6) and Android, in every size with a well designed mount. It looks like it those with glasses should have no problem. The great: VR games. There is a nice selection of free/cheap space “invader”, asteroid, military shooter games. I downloaded wizards, haunted house, and kiddie games for free. The larger graphics lend themselves to easy focus, little impact from any slight blurring, and the immersion into the game is total. If gaming is your thing, you’ll be pretty happy. Most games also have a “shooters” cursor or “locator” icon which also serves as an ideal focus point. This greatly simplifies getting the cleanest image. Nice. This is VR on the cheap and well done. My problem: I was hoping for a great experience with 3D (side by side images) and/or VR from short film clips. Total disappointment. It simply isn’t realistic to have such low resolution images (now cut into 2 pieces) and expect to achieve finely detailed pictures which need to be carefully overlapped for perfect focus. Total frustration. I already have a beautiful 3D 65” TV AND a 3D projector in my theater room which far and away exceed anything this format can achieve. I don’t know what I was thinking. if games were my thing, I’d keep this without hesitation. I can certainly recommend it for those looking a a VR game experience. If I was doing something wrong, or using the wrong type of media, I'd love to see your comments.

The good, very comfortable, It seal around good so there is no fogging of the lens, the field of view is great, it is a bit more heavy than my other $20 VR. Since I have two VR, I can compare. The image on this VR is closer than the other one I have, so, the pixel is bigger (with iphone). The action button never work on my iphone 6, if Homido member is reading this review, please reply and tell me how I can make it work or I am considering returning this product. Since the button do not work, the only way is to "shake" the phone, try doing it with the VR on your head, forget about it. You have to take it off and shake it several times to get the control screen displaces on your phone. I figure out another way, just open the cover and tap the left side of your phone. This VR has all the adjustment for the lens, front and back, distance between the two lens, this is VERY IMPORTANT feature to make sure you can see clear images. I am still debating if it worth $70 VS my $20 VR, 3.5 times the cost but I would say 1.2 times better than my $20 VR set. Bottom line, if you only try this VR, you may like it, but it you have others to compare, it will make you think.

I'm very pleased with this VR headset. It fits well and is comfortable. It has the necessary controls including, focus, pupil spacing and screen tap. My favorite feature is the flip-open front. This allows easy access to your phone without having to remove it...you will find that you have to access your phone more than you think. It's nice to just flip it open, make your selections and flip it closed. One issue...I have an iPhone 6Plus and the screen tap button is not always reliable. I did discover, reading a bunch of reviews from various folks on several websites, that this is common on that particular phone model. I did find that putting some thin spacer (like a couple of business cards) behind the phone before locking it into place helped with this issue...it didn't totally eliminate the problem but did help. I tried it with a Samsung phone and it worked every time. So, it appears to be something with the particular model of iPhone that I have. This issue kept me from giving the unit 5 stars. Otherwise, it's a great VR headset.

I bought this VR base on the reviews that people leave here but this time didn't work for me, first let me say that the VR feels good on every aspect, to watch videos on VR I will recommended, but the reason that I am giving 1 star is because went you are trying to play a game the VR has a click button that will touch the screen of the cell phone (in this case I was using an iPhone 7+ and an iPod 5th generation) so that way you will interact with the game but unfortunately that didn't work, I took it back to Best Buy to return the product and found out that the return policy is only 15 days, not 30 days like it just to be, well that's my fault for not looking the receipt, and because this was a birthday present I couldn't returned sooner, well in Best Buy they told me that this product comes with 1 year warranty that I should contact the manufacturer, so I tried to get a contact number a email or something but there's no way that you can get someone to help me, so now I'm stuck with this thing with a full year warranty but no one to help, so if you want to save some money and frustration and not wasting any time, DO NOT BOTHER ON BUY THIS THING

    Great Optics. Poor Design

After reading the reviews I had high expectations. The optics were really good in the headset. Easy to focus and really clear compared to a much cheaper headset I tried (Shinecon VR). There were two major problems for me. First, there is no padding over the nose. At first I thought I could tolerate this but then came the second problem that others have mentioned. The hinged door that holds the phone in place is held shut by magnets. The magnets are at the top of the door, with the hinge at the bottom of the door, and were not strong enough to hold the door closed. If you looked down or looked around too quickly the door would suddenly open by dropping down carrying the phone with it. The weight of the phone dropping down and then coming to a sudden stop would cause the non-padded nose piece to crack against the bridge of my nose. The optics on this headset were so good I thought about using Velcro on the door and installing more padding to the nose but I would then be spending more money on an already higher priced headset. It was returned. If the door issue and some nose padding were added this would be a great headset.

Very solid, works with Galaxy S5

Had Homido's first headset before, using a Samsung Galaxy S5. This one fixed my only real beef with the first, which was the lack of a capacitive button (which my Cardboard even has). Though it turns out I don't actually need it much. The new version is also a lot wider, which fits my head much better. Also the system for holding the phone is pretty fancy now, and even though my phone’s just average size I’m pretty sure you could cram in a really large phone and it’d work. For me, though, the new phone holding system keeps out almost all extra light. Overall the build quality is legit with a few other new features I like, like the zoom dial. Haven't tried Zeiss or Merge but can't imagine they could be much better.

There's cheaper and better out there

This is the first pair of VR glasses I've purchased for my Android. The box was open at Best Buy, but so were all of the others so I purchased it anyway. The pupil width dial at the bottom was broken. Initially I was unsure how it turned, but the instructions were vague. Next the plastic door is what holds the phone, but instead of a 4 cornered latch it has three (2 on 1 side, 1 on the other). Well the 1 sided clasp inconveniently covers the power button, so when you are placing it to view it turns off. Poor design. Some other reviews complained the door is only held on by magnets and with the phone on the door (and the heaviest point) it can damage the phone if it popped open. The magnet had decent strength, but not enough for me to trust my new $400 phone in it. It does allow the user to wear glasses, but they would need to be thin as it was a snug fit getting them into the viewer. The only positive thing was it came with a nice case that few others do, but that's not enough to convince me to spend $80 for it. There are better options out there for $30 which I'll look for.

    Not good with iPhone 6s

I got this for my son who has an iPhone 6s and while it's impressive looking it doesn't work with iPhone. When we followed the minimal instructions to go to the Homido Center from the app it kept saying "error during update". So I deleted it and re-downloaded on my iPhone and then got a message saying that the Homido Center (that is supposedly where you go to access all the games) is not available for the U.S. There is no other instruction as to what other game systems this might be compatible with, and trying to get to customer support has you clicking link after link that brings you back to the one that doesn't work. My daughter who has an android phone tried to download it too just to see if it would work on hers, but got the same error messages. So basically this is an expensive movie viewer. It's going back to Best Buy this week. Very disappointed because this VR headset seemed to have good reviews when I purchased it in November.

Lenses are really good quality. Phone holder is nice. Button is...unique, but functional. It uses a small nub to poke the screen rather than a magnetic button. Functional. Major downfall is that magnets hold the drawer closed, and the hinge is at the bottom. If your phone is heavy it WILL swing open when you look around too hard, or down. (Moto X Pure, for example). Easy to fix with a little velcro, and worth it as the lenses are top notch compared to the others I've tried (3 in total).

I bought this headset because it is one of the few compatible with iOS. I had a chance to try it in the shop and compare it with competing models. This is by far the best choice in terms of its finish, design and compatibility. I was totally carried away and had a smooth transition into VR! The headset is comfortable and very easy to use. Nice addition: comes with a carrying case, a microfiber cleaning cloth and two foam bands. Thank you Homido for bringing VR to iOS!

I can only speak for how this VR device worked with an iPhone 6 and not with any Android device. While you can see stuff if you get everything started and then put your phone in, you won't be able to interact using the button on the side which only pushes a little stylus nub onto the screen. It never worked for me even though I could confirm that it was hitting the screen. Also have the Google Cardboard and its button actually worked. If you just want to check out VR while waiting for Apple to get off its rear end and make one for the iPhone, you should save some money and just get the Google Cardboard.

I think it is a quality headset with a decent 100 field of view which is as good or better than some of the more expensive ones out there. I gave it 4 stars because it does tend to fog up a bit but that is the only thing I have found fault with it so far. The lens are good quality and it is comfortable to wear. Homido has a very good app with loads of other apps for you to download and try. It comes with a nice case which a lot of the others don't. I have recommended them to friends and a few of them have already bought them. You can wear glasses with them but it's tight. They do have adjustments knobs one on the bottom left and one on top for your eyes so you dont really need to wear them.

Im not trying to sound like some ungrateful gift receiver here. But it just doesnt work. I have an iphone 6s plus and I have tried getting the apps for this device to work and neither will. The main app "Homido center" will download and then once I open the app it has an error message that pops up saying "There was an error during the update." I am a relatively tech-y guy (I've built my own computer on 3 different occasions and work as a computer coder) and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix it and their support was non-existent. The gift giver felt awful and we are returning it tomorrow. I felt bad to even be like this.

When I opened the shipping box I realized that both seals at the ends of the manufacturer's package were cut, but never expected any issues. When my 14 yo son opened his Christmas gift and started to use it, he quickly found out that something was wrong with it. I looked at it and realized that one of the lenses was damaged and made the experience of looking through impossible. It would only get better with one eye closed. Very disappointed, both with the product and specially with Best Buy for shipping something out with broken seals and damaged. Will certainly return for my money back and will get my son a replacement elsewhere.

Build quality good. Lense quality is pretty good. The FOV is nice when watching movies on android cinema app The unit holds my s5 in place with out moving. The interact button does not work that well. Sometimes my phone does not detect it. Definitely try an app called dark coaster it's a nice experience for this unit. Also try riftcat for pc to play oculus games on your phone. Some apps look and play well on it. Overall Im enjoying this unit.

I use this with an iPhone 5s. Clips in easily and the headset fits fine. Some apps and videos need the model of headset before being able to view the image correctly. Sometimes that is annoying. Getting the focus adjusted correctly isn't bad but getting double images is sometimes a problem on some apps and videos. The Homido app allows access to an archive of videos and games. All of those work excellent with this headset. This seems like a decent VR set to start out with and get a feel for before deciding on a much more expensive one.

This is exactly what I was looking for at a competitive price. I have a iPhone XS Max and it fits perfectly. I use mine for fpv drone flying and it works flawlessly. The back lens/holder is also see through so I can use the switch back function on the drone app to go back in forth between the inflight camera (on drone) and the ground camera (which is my rear iPhone camera). Overall great product.

Does anyone have trouble rotating the IPD dial?

PROS: Good lenses, good focus, good field-of-view CONS: The magnet is too weak to hold the door closed, so it flips open when I am using it. The dial on the bottom of the unit is supposed to move the lenses to adjust IPD. MIne barely moves, and does not move when pressing "-" (only the "+" symbol). Is this normal, or is it a defect?
