Room environment conditions such as ceiling height, sunlight, number of windows/ doors and level of insulation can affect cooling efficiency and there are ways to increase the capacity of these units. There could be other reasons for the unit to not cool- temperature setting could be too high, or the exhaust hose may need re-installation to avoid the heat from coming back into the room. Does the job but incredibly loud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This portable AC is intended to heat a 500 square foot bedroom with poor wall insulation. Setup was a bit challenging. The unit is over 70 pounds so carrying the unit upstairs is not easy. The wheels at the bottom of the unit don't roll easy. The wall bracket appears cracked already but is usable. Rather than returning this and waiting for Best Buy to take forever and a day to replace, we kept it. The wall bracket is not ideal for smaller windows, we had to improvise. Once plugged in the temperature in our bedroom with Central AC registered at 84 degrees...yikes. The room cooled the room to 71 degrees within two hours. However, this is an incredibly noisy unit. We cannot watch TV while the unit is on cooling. When the unit reaches the target temperature and fans momentarily volume is minimal. However, when the AC resumes cooling, it is so loud I find myself waking up to the noise at night. Be aware as I guess this is normal and I need to adjust to this. I'll give it another few days before deciding whether I can adjust to the noise levels.

In less favourable conditions, a higher BTU rating of Portable Air Conditioner is recommended to cool the same sized room. Better Than I Could Have Ever Wished For!

Because of the makeup of our house a total replacement was needed of the whole system as we had an air handler in our attic that no one would work with. After estimates the bill was looking to be about $11,000 which is about $10,500 more then I had to spend. Well I spent $600 on this unit and I am able to cool our living about 600 square feet and with a box fan blowing in a hallway 3 bedrooms are cooled also! Keeps our essential areas cool! We have 8 foot ceilings so I know that helps, but this little unit sure works nice. Highly suggest this unit, does more than advertised.

I also tried a smaller BTU (12,000) Honeywell model first. But this unit, as the smaller BTU unit, just did not cool our large upstairs room. It's approximately 500 square feet and even if we keep the unit at 65 degrees, it only ever gets to 84 degrees. I am not satisfied and will be returning.

It doesn't screw on right and once you connect one end, the other one disconnects. If you move it, you will have to reconnect it. 2nd) I bought this for the main part of my apt, Living Room 18x18 plus kitchen. Should be good enough for up to 550 sq feet. used it in my bedroom...less than 200 sq ft and I was sweating all night. I started it on medium because with 14000 BTUs I should have been freezing. I kept getting up to make it colder. and it never got cold enough. I don't know if mine doesn't work properly, but it's going back! I'm not getting stuck with it!
