If you have the slightest hardness or ANY substances in your water... Filtered or not... you don't want this product.
In all fairness it is mentioned in the users manual... but you figure, OK... I can wipe up a little dust around the unit!
You don't find out until you use it, that this unit produces a super fine, white, oxidized powder... that is airborne.
Unfortunately, the white powder sticks to everything and covers most of the home (3 rooms, open concept, 30'x40' area). We had to completely clean 3 rooms... floor, windows and ALL items in ALL rooms! TVs cabinets... everything!
We returned this item. Although "distilled" water may NOT produce the same result, it seems counter-intuitive to purchase cases of water.
Another biproduct of this airborne OXIDIZED power...
(Long story... keep reading!)
How did we discover that this "Powder" is "Oxidized" and airborne?
Not realizing it was related (after a week)... I noticed that my (rather expensive) "Propane" cook surface was burning yellow... this is a bad sign!... and is indicative of low flow, and the possibility of producing C02.
So, Thinking it was a flow issue with the propane tank.. We got the propane company involved... They agreed. They changed the regulator on the external tank... no difference!... We then replaced the propane regulator on the cook surface... Worse! (due to the reduction in flow rate of the NEW regulator, dictated by NEW government regs... couldn't even boil water).
Then... LiGhtBuLb! The air was oxidized!
It took 2 days of cleaning to eliminate this powder covering everything!... and to clear the air of the "Super-fine" oxidized powder.
The unit DID bring the humidity level to 34% (measured). After a few days of NOT using the unit... I put the OLD regulator back on the propane cook surface... on the 3rd day after NOT using the unit, the humidity level was at 30% (after running the dishwasher, heat drying and opening the door half way through the drying cycle, heavy steam)..
We tested the burners on the cook surface again... it was back to normal, blue propane flame!
This was quite the science project. Lesson learned!
This would be really bad if you have this unit in the area of a propane furnace!, Reducing efficiency and increasing the possibility of producing high levels of CO2!
Unless you like cleaning... and have an electric stove!
I would NOT recommend this product!

We appreciate your detailed feedback on the Honeywell Dual Comfort Humidifier and understand your frustration with the white dust issue. Ultrasonic humidifiers can release mineral deposits into the air when using tap water with the unit, and using filtered or distilled water can help resolve this issue. We're sorry this wasn't a good fit for your needs and appreciate your insights. If you have any further concerns, please reach out to our team at [email protected].

Very happy with the Honeywell humidifier. Easy to use, easy to fill. The warm and cool options for humidifying in cold or warm weather works great. Very quiet running. All this and it looks nice in the home. Not an eyesore.
