one of the best albums of the year

Spoon uses it's sparse music style like their earlier albums. Leaving room for the listener to fill in the music's open feel like Britt forgot to use the space he leaves in his songs. This time updated with just the right tool - a synthesizer Go figure? . It fits the band fill in the blank style by filling in the blank, but not too much to make it sound like their pop last efforts that sounded like Spoon were trying too hard to please their much bigger audience. I always liked the albums just after "Girls Can Tell" even though I think 'Girls is one of their best albums. I always like the "I Turned My Camera On" approach they discovered, leaving holes in the songs that make their sound unique. There's a smoothness to "Hot Thought" songs, and not a bad song on it. I like this new approach to Britt's song writing. It's an updated sound that every listener will find fun, and cool. With "Hot Thought" the band cemented their style of music that cannot be copied. Spoon is now Spoon again, but with changes that make them even better. Watch out this may make them cool again, but with a hip upgraded sound. It shows that the band are now willing to mine other territories making them innovators once again. If you liked "Gimme Fiction" you will like this one even more. I think it's their best effort, and am waiting to see what new ground they stir up in the future. This is not a band resting on it's popularity, and putting out the stuff with their albums before "They Want My Soul, and after "Girls Can Tell".". The songs sound fresh, new, and innovative. When I put it in my Cd player I liked it from the beginning. This is their sound but much more fun, and surprising. I like the Arabic style synths on " Do I Have To Talk You .Into It". Every song has a little surprise for the listener. As a devoted Spoon fan I like this slight change very much .It's hip, cool, and makes you say, "wow" to yourself while you are listening to one of the greatest bands sound like they love what they do best - be Spoon. This one caught me by surprise. You would be stupid not to pick this one up for your collection. It shows a band with 8 albums out can mine the territory with the Spoon sound yet up the anti, and surprise you with a newer fresher sound. I think this one might be their best effort, and I hope they never quit, and put out albums until their in their 70's." Spoon on"....

I'm not really a huge Spoon fan with the occasional song here and there, but I was shocked of how good this whole album is. It's got power, energy, and catchiness abound. The title track sets the whole tone completely, along with the brilliant hooks of "Can I Sit Next to You," "Do I Have to Talk You Into It," and the roundness melo funk of "Pink Up" and "Shotgun." Perfect album for the summer and windows rolled down in your car. You won't regret it.

Brit Daniel's songs run the gamut of the band's past, so no one can be disappointed. "Can I Sit Next To You?" hardens back a decade to Ga Ga Ga Ga, while "Gun" exudes the brilliance of Transference. The title track could be at home on They Want My Soul, the record preceding this latest effort. The last track is, unfortunately, an instrumental that drags on. The other nine, however, make it a truly worthwhile investment.

Spoon is a band that keeps getting better and better and better. Kind of like it used to be, where artists are allowed to develop and grow and become an actual meaningful band. At any moment, Spoon is liable to explode and become an arena act, so in the meantime, trust all the reviews you've seen already about Hot Thoughts, buy it now and see them this Summer!

The always consistently good Spoon, another platter that matters. While not as great as GaGaGaGa or They Want My Soul, it is a sweetly weird little disc, that really wears it's Dave Fridmann production flourishes on its sleeve. Not Flaming Lips levels of weirdness, but more spacey than a normal Spoon production, which can be angular and sharp.

A mostly successful new synt and beat based sound

I have mixed feelings about Hot Thoughts, Spoon's new record. It's a lesser work by one of our best bands. Hot Thoughts doesn't emphasize the strengths of the band and its gifted leader Britt Daniel. But perhaps it was best not to try to repeat the remarkable deep, interesting They Want My Soul. Spoon does something different on Hot Thoughts, emphasizing synths and beats. The result often seems intentionally superficial, like on Can I Sit Next To You, which is catchy but reminiscent of Greg Kihn's unremarkable 80s synth pop hit Jeopardy. There are good songs like the title track, an appealing dance song that communicates the thrill and vulnerability of an exciting, uncontrollable love. WhisperI'lllistentohearit is a good, edgy rocker. The mid tempo Tear It Down, the most like a typical Spoon song, shows Daniel's gift with a hook. On Hot Thoughts Spoon tries new sounds with mostly effective results.

"You're the one that brought a shotgun" makes the whole album worth the purchase! Not to say the other songs aren't worth it, but this one is awesome. Reminds me of "I was made for loving you" from KIss. Hot Thoughts is worth the $10.00. Might as well buy the hard copy! Thanks BB for the great price.

Spoon has done it again with another extremely catchy, infectious and fun album. Utterly repeatable, especially the first 9 tracks, with the last two kind of spinning off into soulful searching. Top album from a top band. Definitely one of the best albums I've heard from 2017.

This band never releases a bad album. Hot Thoughts is another HOT album by Spoon. Every song is catchy - great singing - great lyrics - great musicianship. If you are a fan of Spoon you will like this album. If you are new to Spoon it is a great place to start.

This album has more keyboards and less guitar than past albums. It sounds like Spoon was influenced by David Bowie's Low on this release. Perhaps this is their tribute to David Bowie. One of Spoon's better albums. Recommended.

I've been waiting quite a while for this new Spoon record and was pleased to see it at a very low price at Best Buy, upon release. I have bought several new releases here latterly and I keep looking in the future

This group has to be considered one of the most consistently good band out there. This album expands on their sound with experimentation that will gain new fans buy not lose old ones.

Spoon has been around for a while and their most popular album might be Kill the moonlight- this new album has some of that same vibe- you can listen to the album from Start to finish!!

This album seems to be kind of a dance version of Spoon; more electronic effects/beats and such. It's a good listen, but I hope this transformation isn't permanent.

It took them long enough to get another album out, but I'm glad that they honed this album down to a great piece of work, well worth the listen from start to finish
