Great filter, but it's not 62mm. It's 67, kind of.

In terms of color, clarity and what a filter is supposed to do for your lens, this is a GREAT piece. BUT, while it is advertised as a 62mm filter, it is NOT; it's a 67mm filter threaded into a 62mm REDUCER, hence, the $70.00 price. It doesn't sound like a big deal until you thread it onto your 62mm lens... and then you can't get the lens hood off (if it's been threaded on reversed for storage), or you can't get the lens hood on (if it's been stored separately). At a minimum, your 62mm lens cap (regardless of style ) won't work at all....because the filter is 5mm WIDER than the lens everything you had before. I un-threaded the reducer and gave the filter to my buddy to use on his 67mm Tamron lens. From the pictures he took, I can tell you, the filter is awesome. So, 5 stars for the glass, but 0 for the nonsense with the reducer that made it useless to me. Average 2.5 stars, rounded to 3.

16 coatings or more are a must

Have always found that the more coatings the thinner and better the optics. Hoya optics are my first choice.

This filter was purchased primarily as protection for a weather resistant Olympus 12-40 F2.8 lens. Used on this lens, this filter is clear enough that it will not impact image quality at all, and is multi-coated, so it reduces occurrences of flare and ghosting. This filter is easy to clean, which is important when used on a weather resistant lens, as it's better to have to clean water and dust off a filter multiple times than from the front element of the lens. This filter is probably both too expensive and too optically good for use on a kit lens, but is an excellent choice for a high quality lens. I will be purchasing more of these for other lenses.
