I have been asking myself why this laptop exists, and I have yet to find an answer. Who is the target audience? The price point may be attractive, but that should be a warning sign in this case.
HP tends to make products that are generally reliable, well-made, and of decent to excellent quality. Boy did they miss the mark with this one!
Let's start with the overall build quality. The shell is plastic, which is to be expected with budget laptops. There is some weight which provides a false sense of "quality". Just because something is heavy, does not mean it is well-made. Opening the lid, the hinge actually functions quite well. It holds its position and is taught. I noticed right away there is a plastic bezel around the screen that seems to be glued in place, and not well I might add. It was already separating from the screen to the degree I could see the gap. The keyboard is atrocious. The keys are not at all pleasant to type on, and even light typing causes the casing to push downward. There is a TON of give all around the inside of this laptop due to the very thin plastic. There is no backlighting, which is not uncommon in this price point.
The 14" 1366x768 HD display is usable, but really low image quality. Don't expect clean, crisp images or to effectively perform any image editing. The colors seem muted and dull, the image edges are not well defined. I also worry about the screen being damaged due to the exterior lid having a lot of give.
The ports are another area where it would be easy to be fooled into thinking this is a much better laptop than what it actually is. There is a single HDMI, 2 USB Type A, a single USB-C, a headphone jack, and SD card reader. The USB ports are all 3.0 so the speed is limited.
The internals are where I am baffled, and what makes me wonder why this exists. The hard drive is a laughable 64GB. This is not much space, so if you are looking to add additional programs, or store photos and videos, you'll find yourself running out of storage very quickly. 4GB of RAM in a laptop is just silly. What are you going to do with this? Nothing! Multitasking is not a thing with that amount of RAM. If you keep a lot of browser tabs open or tend to minimize instead of close programs, you will bring this laptop to its feet. The N4500 Intel Celeron processor isn't going to allow for much speed or bandwidth to do much on this device anyway. I understand this is a budget laptop, but these specs are just horrible.
When I started this laptop for the first time the boot time was just under a minute, which is slow. As with most new computers, there was an update available for the Windows OS. Over high-speed wireless broadband the download took just shy of 20 minutes. Ok, I'll extend some grace. There are multiple variables that could impact a download. However, the update failed to install, even with multiple attempts. I made another attempt to redownload the update, but again the update failed to install. In the end, for me, it doesn't really matter. This is not a device I will be using.
So, I'm left wondering still - why make this and who is the target audience? For not much more money you can find a much better laptop with a bigger hard drive, upgraded processor, and more RAM. For the same money, a Chromebook with more impressive specs can be had. I cannot think of any demographic where I would be comfortable recommending this device.

The absolute worst laptop I’ve ever had! I can’t get it to do anything. Slower than using dial up.
Called HP… no help whatsoever. And they won’t get back to me on anything.
I’ve been a loyal HP customer for years. Never again

Worst piece of junk I've ever purchased. I bought this laptop for college homework and it was incredibly slow while it worked. It completely stopped working this afternoon and lost all of my cumulative course projects. Thanks for the rip off.

I upgraded the ram to 8gbs and that was the ONLY way it became useable. I had to do this because money was tight but for any who has ANY other options don't buy this.

So Slow I returned it & got a better one that’s faster than this. The way this one works Bestbuy should just lower it to $25 or better yet buy an item & get this laptop for free because it’s not worth buying at all.
