I usually shy away from HP because I didn't have a good experience with HP laptop and other products in the past. However, this is a good deal for the specs, and the reviews are not bad, and it's within my strict $200 budget, so I thought I would give it a shot.
The laptop is not too heavy, has all the ports I need, good screen, and decent sound. For a laptop that I will only use for watching videos, writing documents, and give powerpoint presentations, it's a decent one. For anything else that's heavier like gaming, I would hesitate since this laptop is pretty slow. Plus I'm worried that I might decrease the lifetime if I push it beyond what it is capable of... It also gets really loud at random times...like as I am typing this sentence right now. I haven't had problem with overheating yet (that was a huge issue with my previous HP laptop). Battery life is not good. I have 3 tabs open, and since the beginning of this sentence I'm typing it already drops 8%. And I have on battery saver.
I bought this laptop with the mindset that I need something cheap and portable as I travel. I also bought it with the mindset that it is not going to last me a long time. I would be happy if it last me about 2 years, which I'm not confident that it will.
I give this product 4 stars mainly because I wasn't expecting a lot, and the price factor plays a lot into my decision.

Initially thought I had bought a dog, but once I updated the AMD drivers and wireless card driver the machine operated smoothly. I really like it. So I went ahead and bought a 8GB memory stick for it, installed it and the machine now has 12GB RAM. Also I replaced the original Hard Drive with a 240GB SSD and now the machine is flying. Perfect for normal computing, and some games at medium level. Total cost of upgrade for the parts was about 80$ so not bad all in all. To sum it up: do the updates, if you don't mind messing around the memory can be doubled and tripled. Get it on sale if you can - I paid two hundred.

Great laptop but its going to run slow for the first day because of all the windows updates. Make sure to defrag the harddrive and uninstall all the HP junk it comes with. I upgraded to 8 gigs of ram for an additional $30 and its well worth it. Laptop feels 100% faster.

Put a Solid State Drive In There & It'll Scream!!

Guys. This purchased this lappy for my mom. As usual for any laptop with Windows 10 and no Solid State drive, it's kind of slow.
My recommendation is to buy a 128GB Solid State drive for $40-$50 and some 8GB gaming RAM for $50-$70 and it'll race as fast as any other good SS drive computer.
Look at Youtube vids to remove the cover. Really cumbersome for me. Took me an hour. But I'm persistent. I finally got it off with a shaved guitar pick. You can buy a tool kit to do it proper but I didn't want to drive to the store. You can also pay BB to do it. Beware that this cover IS plastic so any meddling will most likely leave a small mark at point of entry (no matter WHO does it). But it's worth the speed increase!!
The keyboard is solid as is the track pad. The only thing I can nitpick is that that the colors of the screen isn't as saturated as my Macbook Pro (but come on folks, it's a $200 lappy versus $2000+!!) but most people won't care.
This obviously isn't a heavy gaming lappy, but a very good productivity/web surfing lappy, and for that and people like my mother, it's great, and the Solid State drive is KING in turning these units into Ferraris!

Got this for my son who isn't especially tech savy but enjoys it anyway. I think it will more than satisfy him. Been setting it up to his liking and am enjoying doing it. I would like it to be a little faster, have a backlit keyboard and all the fancy stuff but for the price this is awesome. One thing is a negative, no Bluetooth. I actually found that this isn't a big deal. Just went on ebay and got a Bluetooth dongle for around $6 and voila, Bluetooth works just great. The screen is bright and shows Netflix movies like a champ. Fast enough for us, basically no problems at all. I have a wireless mouse on it which is what I prefer so can't say much about the touchpad. The complaints I have read about haven't happened to me at all. Perhaps those people got a lemon or were expecting to get a loaded laptop for just over $200. Anyway, we are very happy with this laptop. Great deal, thanks Best Buy my go to electronics store

Perfect 1st computer for my 14 y/o son

I got this for my son's 14th birthday earlier this month and it is perfect for everything he does! He can do homework (we didnt pay for the Office Suite since we use Google docs), surf the net and FB, and play Steam games, Terraria, and Minecraft with little to no lag. This is his first computer and he couldn't be happier!
It happened to be on sale ($225) and the 1 year accidental warranty is a must for only $69.99...just in case:-)
Extremely happy with this purchase and would rec this laptop to anyone!

It's Fine for My Limited Use

I don't do much on my laptop but read and send email, read the news online, and play an occasional easy game. This HP is just right for that. I find it very responsive, not slow at all.
However, I do have a problem with the physical design. The touchpad and the area around it are very rough. There are these strange little grooves on the palm guards. What are they for? They just make the surface even rougher. Also, the laptop has a very hard and sharp ridge all around the keyboard side. It makes it really uncomfortable to use, and because I generally sit on my bed to use the laptop, using a mouse is very difficult. It's far easier for me to use the touchpad. I've purchased palm guard pads, which I hope will keep the skin on my palms and wrists from chafing.
But pads shouldn't be necessary, if HP gave a little more concern to ergonomics. With a more comfortable setup, this laptop would be ideal.
