Longest Set Up Evvvvver

I purchased this laptop because my wife's is outdates and slow, and I needed something dependable for class this semester. All of my classes are online this semester and one of them required a webcam. I read the other reviews before purchasing and didn't really see anything too too bad. Upon getting it home and setting it up, this is has been literally the longest setup I have EVER gone through with a computer period, I had a Gateway and my Wife an Asus, never took this long. All together the entire set up has taken hours. Once it is up and running it is pretty fast. I also don't like the texture of the touch pad, makes my teeth clench and my skin crawl, like hearing nails on a chalkboard. All in all for the price I paid out of pocket, $208 because I had a gift card that covered $70, it's not bad, just some things that can approved on.

very good computer. I don't know how long it will last but is fairly quick compared to the compaq computer I had is much faster. I don't think I will have to add more ram. Will use for daily tasks email, videos and reading paper. Windows 10

I purchased this laptop to write a book, which means I didn't need any frills or extras. I just needed to be able to run my writing program and a couple browser tabs for research. This HP sounded perfect for me. I have owned it for four days now and it has crashed twice. It took more than two minutes to load the Best Buy website just to write this review and I know my internet is not the issue because my cell phone managed to load the page on the same wi-fi while I waited. This poor laptop struggles, man. It struggles so hard - just opening the Chrome browser makes the fan kick up two gears and whine like a baby.
The Good:
- The screen is large and the resolution is lovely - everything looks sharp and vibrant.
- The full keyboard is awesome and I like the sound the keys make - it's not too loud, but it definitely clicks when you type.
- It's not too heavy considering the size of the screen and the fact that it has a CD/DVD drive.
- After hours of use, neither the laptop or the battery pack were more than mildly warm.
The Bad:
- It can barely process simple tasks without struggling - either things take forever to open/close or the fan kicks into overdrive and sounds like it may achieve lift-off.
- The touch pad is just weird - it's the exact same texture as the rest of the keyboard, so it's hard to *feel* when you're actually touching it versus touching the palm rest. Admittedly, it is a large touch pad and that's great - but it's not pleasing to the touch. It blends into the palm rests much too easily.
- The touch pad keys are loud enough to cause avalanches two states away. I can't even use them at night because they're loud enough to wake my toddler.
- The speakers are located in front, underneath... because that makes so much sense. Absolutely awful sound quality when it's constantly muffled because laptops don't float.
The Ugly: Overall, I regret this purchase. I guess I should have spent a little more money to get something with more processing power. But even if this laptop wasn't having difficulty running a single program at a time, I think it's somewhat poorly designed. HP gets bonus points for the screen and the full keyboard, but the touch pad is atrocious and the speakers are basically obsolete.

I got this on sale, it's great!

I saw this particular model laptop on sale a couple months back for about 200 bucks! Now that is a wonderful price for what you get. This laptop works well for what I use it for, which is surfing the internet, streaming some movies/videos, downloading some stuff etc. I don't need a laptop for extreme gaming or anything too powerful, and this is something that is great for surfing the internet, watching movies on occasion, watching videos on some sites, and that type of thing. I don't think I'd recommend it for someone who needs a super powerful computer, but if you do everyday browsing and watching movies or videos, or downloading pictures etc...this works great! And for about 200 bucks on sale, you just can not beat that deal! Hands down, great deal if it's on sale! I gave it 5 stars because it's a nice laptop and offers a nice picture, and mainly because the price was right too! The volume is a little low for sure, but I always plug in headphones so that doesn't apply to me. Plugging in headphones offers loud, good sound! 5/5...Happy so far!

I cant believe you can get this much computer for 200.00. This is replacing a 10 year old 800.00 computer and it runs circles around that one. Great basic laptop for school. Light easy to transport, I had a tight budget and figured I would have to settle. This was an upgrade for me. I am glad I bought it. I was scared because of the price, it would be a piece of junk. Not the case

I caught this laptop on sale for 209.99 and figured I'd give it a try. I've had it for close to 2 weeks and So far I have only had 1 time where it froze on me. Then it updated and has been running smooth ever since. The laptop is way lighter than my 3 year old Toshiba and I like the fact that there aren't a lot of venting holes on the bottom of the unit (while picking up the Toshiba my fingers went through the vent holes). This laptop feels very sturdy and well put together so far. The sound on it is good (had to find the controls but once I readjusted the levels the sound got much louder and crisp). All in all for the price (even the regular price) this is a pretty good laptop so far.

Bought this HP laptop two days ago at a rock bottom price. The setup is effortless. HD Youtube viewing is faster than my other laptop powered by an Intel Celeron chip. The speaker sound quality is good. The labtop background noise while running is very low.
The only tradeoff is that the battery runs out a little faster.

Excellent laptop for the money, DVD, Windows 7

I bought this laptop brand new on April 2, 2017. I am a junior year BBA college student. HP makes great products. This laptop is excellent value for the money; at slightly over $200 it doesn't make sense to buy someone else's used problems. I upgraded the internal hard drive to a solid state drive (SSD). I also got rid of the awful Windows 10 and installed Windows 7 Ultimate.
The drivers for Windows 7 can be found online, or you can just use Windows Update to detect and download them after installing Windows 7. You will need the wireless driver to get the rest of the drivers from Windows Update. The wireless is RTL8188EE and the video is AMD Radeon R4. The sound on this laptop works after installing Windows 7 so you won't need to download the driver for that.

I can find nothing wrong with this Laptop. I read some of the reviews saying the WiFi is not good but I have not have a problem with connecting to WiFi since getting my machine. The Screen is large and clear display. It is not a very heavy laptop, maybe a little on the large side but I am still exceedingly happy with the performance of the machine. HP is a great company and are known for making high quality products. The reason I got this laptop was to get on the internet and an online game I play and so far, after just a few days I am still amazed at the abilities of this machine, I am also able to run and play The Sims 3 with no problems where I had issues on a previous Desktop computer before.

You can't beat this computer for the price.....I usually do not purchase the cheapest product, but I made an exception this time because HP has never let me down... And they came thru again for me... I did have an 8gig. ram memory added to my machine.... and I'm glad that I did.. My old computer was a 5 year old Toshiba...
The screen is better on my new HP....
The sound is much better on the HP...
It has a quad core processor, so it is plenty fast for internet stuff...
My internet games play well on this machine...
Battery is great... my old Toshiba battery was wore out after 2hrs... The HP runs and runs and runs....
I gave it a 5 star because it has exceeded my expectations in every way...

My dad purchased one for watching DVDs and surfing the internet. Since he is not a computer guy, I cringed because I knew I would have to talk him through setup over the phone (and I had no experience with Windows 10). When I looked up what came on the system (4GB RAM / 500GB HDD / DVD writer), I decided to get one myself to (a) familiarize myself with WIN 10 so I could help Dad and (b) to replace an old tower computer I was using as a Kodi media center. If you are a gamer, a developer or a power user that needs horsepower, this is NOT the laptop to buy. If you want a rugged laptop, then this is also NOT the laptop to buy. However, if all you want to do is use it as a media center, internet device and/or general purpose computer - then you can't go wrong for the money! (I bought it on sale for $209). Both my dad and I are quite pleased with our purchases.

I am a power user. I've got a desktop PC that I edit video and photos and play games on, but I wanted a cheap laptop that I could take around with me to surf the net and download stuff with so I wasn't always anchored to my desk. This laptop is surprisingly good for how cheap it is. It's great for the web, for watching videos, and doing basically everything you would expect to be able to do with a cheap laptop without running into anything that could hold you back. It's a great buy and I don't normally review things like this, but because I surfed the comments and weighed the pros and cons and decided to get this and was so pleased with it, I decided to go out of my way and do so. If there are any complaints I would have, it would be that it is rather cheap plastic, the clicker buttons make a hollow sound, and the trackpad could be better. Otherwise, it's totally a worthy purchase and you're getting a lot of value for how little it costs.

I’ve had this laptop for 5 years, which feels like an Olympic feat for an HP product! I did have an IT professional install a bigger hard drive and clean it up about 2 years ago. However, I have never had an issue with this computer and 10/10 recommend.

Replaced four year old "around the house" computer. Happy with the product and it's abilities. Was able to produce a multimedia dvd with no real slow downs. If multitasking, I would recommend ram upgrade. Overall great value.
