Was looking for a fast laptop as my previous was working but just a little slow to open other programs while on-line. Since the open-box Asus deal didn't work I "settled" for this HP.
It has pretty much everything I need it to do. And a huge screen! It's not a touch-screen, which I hate, and it comes with a CD disc drive, which my "old-school self" still appreciates.
The i5 processor makes a HUGE difference as I have timed the start-up which takes about 90 seconds for this computer to be up and running from a cold start! (My previous about 4 minutes for all programs to be running.)
My only complaint would be that the "A", "S" and "D" keys have faded in white color, but I can always get some touch-up paint if I feel it necessary.
Other than that I'm happy with this purchase.

This laptop has everything I need and the price was unbeatable. Also a huge screen and big touchpad. Nice full feature keyboard, good graphics, ans super easy to set up. Is it a MB Pro? No, but it also cost a few thousand dollars less!

I had a hard time finding a laptop within my price range. Due to covid everything was sold out so I had to increase my spending cost. This laptop was perfect, it's light weight, the screen is big and overall a great buy.

This is a pretty fast computer. Great price. Would’ve given it a 5 but the camera quality is terrible. Very dull and grainy.

I think HP released this model with S mode to compete with Google's Chrome book's, which HP also sells. The only important thing you need to fully understand is that Windows 10 now supports Secure Mode, or 'S' mode, which is enabled by default on most computers that include 'S' mode. All you need to do to disable it permanently is to visit the Microsofr App store, search for 'S' mode applet, download and run it. Follow the two step instructions and reboot and now you basically have an unlocked operating system, which will allow you to install any Windows 10 supported application from any developer.
On the other hand, if you consider yourself completely computer illiterate, then you probably should not disable 'S' mode for awhile as it will prevent you from installing potentially unsafe software from potentially untrustworthy developers.

This computer replaces a 6+ year old 15" laptop with a standard hard drive that developed severe performance issues. The speed difference is astounding compared to my old one, even before it developed problems. It takes about as long to boot as my cell phone. All internet activity is markedly faster. Programs load significantly faster.
The additional screen size is a blessing for my 77 year old eyes. Much of my use is with Office programs, particularly EXCEL, and I was able to increase font sized by 25% and still have the same data on the screen.

I'm very pleased with this purchase. Transferring all my files was very easy and took just a few hours, and some of that was because I was unfamiliar with transfer in the first place. The computer is light and robust. There are very few bugs. I've only noticed issues with the display. Sometimes when I have Excel open, things get fuzzy, but that's because I'm using some data and statistical formulas. But it's not a lot of data, which has me concerned. Other than that, I love how big the screen is and how easy the keyboard is to use. Webcam isn't fuzzy, audio is fine, and all my other accessories work on the laptop. I would highly recommend and would consider purchasing a gaming laptop from them in the future. I am using this for school and work and it's PERFECT.

This is an amazing laptop! Super speedy and great size for my aging eyes. To be the size it is, it isn't that heavy either. This is one of the last laptops to have an optical drive!

I recently bought this computer as my 4 year old computer battery would just not start up again.... I am an older person and this computer was pretty easy to set up and I had it up and running within a day of picking it up curbside at Best Buy. I had read the other reviews and yes maybe the camera is not as sharp/clear as other computers, but at least it sort of provides a soft focus to erase my wrinkles! ha

This laptop works amazing. My sister-in-law bought herself a $1k Mac while I got this one instead for $549. The speed on this laptop is amazing and faster than hers. The retina on the MAC, of course, is beautiful but the size of the screen on this laptop allows you to have a full view of your spreadsheets and websites. I find the CD/DVD reader/writer a little too useless for 2020 but it's still a small plus. Memory is ok if you will be using your Cloud service or a portable memory. RAM and the SSD combined make my life easier by being able to open several programs at the same time and being able to save without slowing down or waiting on saving or opening.

Surprised at how well it's running Sims 4

I'm pleasantly surprised how well this laptop is performing when running Sims 4, running on a variety of medium to high setting, & with sexpansion dlc & mods included. The SSD makes all the difference. I can never go back to a hard drive ever again. Also, don't use the Windows color calibration. It takes away the options you can mess with in the Intel Graphics Command Center, resulting in kinda dull colors.
One other drawback is the low amount of storage memory. If you're going to be running a lot of different programs, you'lp definitely need more than 256 gb of memory storage. But if you're like me & only plan on using a select few programs, then you'll be fine. I'll be looking to get an external SSD soon.

I've only had mine for 2 weeks. So far everything works as it should, and is super fast. Nice big screen size and the sound is ok, but could be better. Havent done much with it yet, but so far i'm happy with it. The only thing I can ding it for is its construction. It feels a little 'flimsy'. But that could be because my last laptop was a tank (it was old, and I needed to upgrade). Over-all, its a great laptop, with a big 17" screen. I would recommend it.

I purchased this laptop for my mother to check her emails and pay her bills. The solid state drive gives her the speed she needs for everything that she does on it and the screen is perfect. She loves it. The only thing I will say is to be careful with the plastic frame as it is not very sturdy

I bought this HP Laptop to replace the Galaxy Flex. Wow what a surprise. Unlike the Flex(Which tries to Too much) the HP laptop has the right balance of screen size, keyboard layout and CPU power. It is fast and responsive. I like that it is upgradable platform that will extend and enhance it performance. the only dig is the 'S' Mode that it comes with(only Microsoft software can be installed)but it is easily removed. I hardly recommend this HP Laptop from beginner to pro user.

I gave this laptop a 5 star because of the value for the price. I am coming off an 8 year old laptop and it was just time for another one. This screen size is amazing, color is amazing, speed is amazing! Now all I need to do is learn Windows 10. The only thing I can say is wrong with this laptop is I find the mouse pad is kind of shaky when trying to select something. That's not a big problem for me because I normally use a wireless keyboard and mouse. Overall, This is an incredible deal.

I've only had this computer for about a month, but it seems to be quite adequate for my needs. It's budget friendly and you actually get more than what you pay for. It has plenty of storage. It's fast! It has a texture which I like. It's not too heavy, and not too light. Just right. I am satisfied with my purchase.
Two things which have nothing to do with the quality of the product: 1) It has no name, and 2) I wish they made a laptop keyboard cover for this computer.

This was a good purchase. We also got the extra anti-virus software trial offered, but it cannot be installed until the S mode is defeated. Thought that would be a problem, but it went more easily than expected. Basically, you cannot download anything that is not from ms' approved list until S mode is turned off. It is a one-way switch, but we sure don't miss it. The size of the screen and the reasonable weight of this laptop are very nice. It's what my wife wanted and setting it up for her, especially transferring over her bookmarks and photos, went very smoothly. She liked that it has a ten-key pad, also. Recommended.

Definitely worth the money. I had a previous version with only 4 GB ram which was just not enough. I am very glad i upgraded to 8 GB!!! I do some photo editing, lots of online searching, emailing and use Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc quite frequently and this machine handles it well. It is light weight and the wide screen is perfect for steaming video.
I was disappointed that it came with windows 10 in s mode though, as it would not allow me to download Chome and Gmail. Fortunatley you can turn S mode off!

This was the only laptop I had found for under $600 that had a 10th Gen i5 and 17" screen. This laptop boots up really fast. Arrow keys are a little annoying at first because the up and down are half the size of the left and right arrows.
