Yes, Reverse Polish Notation, is how HP calculators have always worked even back in Stone Age of 1973 when I purchased my first TI (Texas Instrument) calculator for $100 (just +, -, X and division but it also allowed exponential which I used in my Chemistry tests that were prepared for manual/Slide Rule calculations). So this is a first for me trying to learn RPN. Amazing calculator that does just about everything well (just think RPN) that I purchased for less than my 1973 TI calculator (Tempus Fugit indeed). Highly recommended. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that for those, like me, unfamiliar with RPN must think differently which raises the learning curve a bit.

the calculator is very powerful, and rpl is so much better than the ppl in hp prime, which makes the programming experience quite enjoyable. However, the built quality is really bad, have to replace 3 times to get a better unit.

It takes a little effort to properly learn the 50G, but it is well worth it. Once you've switched to RPN and soft menus getting around the calculator is much faster than the TI-NSpire that I used previously, and while it does take referencing the manual here and there to figure out the more complex functions, I prefer the 50G's layout and user interface to any calculator I've yet used (including the Ti-84, 89, and TI-NSpire).

This is my 2nd HP calculator I've owed. A must have for professional scientists/engineers and students. The built in equation library is extensive and most with pictures to help descibe. While the RPN can be difficult at first, you can switch to "tradional" mode. But once you get used to RPN mode, you'll be faster and never go back! The SD slot is a nice additional to easily transfer files/data/ programs. Programming is easy and intuitive. A very powerful calculator that will meet you needs for college and professional careers.

When I opened the box the software was only as new as new as Windows XP. Called HP Tech support which was a waste of my breath. I told him I had to take it back since it would not work with my computer. He said "Oh well thank you for calling HP" "Have I taken care of your problem". Gee wiz, some people don't get a clue. Better off with paper and pencil.
