In comparison to the prices of other black ink cartridges, HP 61 is very affordable. Even at it's low price, quality has not been sacrificed. The print comes out clear and doesn't smudge. Prior to purchasing my HP printer, I had another brand of printer. Their ink cartridge cost twice as much as the HP 61. My only complaint is that if you do a considerable amount of printing like I do (I'm a business consultant who is also in law school), you may need to purchase two cartridges at a time or better yet, buy the double or combo pack.

It is hard to review a product which is a consumable. This is the only product which I can use to resupply my HP printer. It does work well and last a reasonable amount of time. It is somewhat easy to use and is generally always in stock at my local Best Buy.

I have tried several other generic store brands and tried the refilling of my ink cartridges, but find that the original HP ink works the best in my printer. Each copy is a crisp, consistent color and works every time. I do find that I prefer the HP 61XL, just the convenience of not having to change the cartridge so often.

HP Ink prices are high. Packaging doesn't tell you how much ink is actually in the cartridge. They refer you to their website for ink volume and page yield. Unless I missed the volume information, I did not see that info, only page yield. Cartridges seem to run out of ink sooner than indicated.
However I have never had a new cartridge fail, like some other new and remanufactured brands, or refilled cartridges useable on my printer. Therfore it is a good buy.
