Purchased this refurbished HP 2170p through Best Buy. Actually refurbed through Joy Computers.
Pros- fast i5 processor, great size for me, good keyboard, 8gb memory and big hard drive.
Good looking machine. Maybe one slight nick on left hinge but that was about it. a little wear on the track pad and the left click button, but otherwise looked new.
Awesome with Windows 7 Pro pre-installed!
Cons - THERE IS NO HDMI PORT! This is counter to the description on Best Buy's website. For some, this may be a deal-breaker. It almost was. I am hoping that Best Buy will correct the product description on their site ASAP.
5500rpm hard drive: This was a surprise given HP lists the specs at a 7500rpm. You may get slightly better battery life with the slower hd, but will throttle performance some. I planned to put a 250gb ssd in anyways (and it was really easy to do), but this was a disappointment that Joy Computers refurbed the device with a slower drive.
Price matching: Found this same unit at WalMart for almost $60 less within the 15 day return period. Best Buy confirmed that Walmart had the item in stock and that it was comparable and immediately credited my purchase price $57 dollars with zero pushback. Excellent experience.
Mixed- No Stock HP software installed. If you want the security software that came with the pc stock, you'll need to download and install yourself. For some, no extra software weighing down the install is a bonus, for others it will be a hassle. I would have preferred the software installed.

I wanted a small, lightweight laptop I could carry around to work, school, etc. It had to be fast enough to load, and a robust enough to handle having a few windows open at once. (Check!)
I had a little trouble figuring out why the touch pad couldn't be adjusted, but then found I needed to load a driver. Not sure why it wouldn't have come with one.
The updates took HOURS at the start, but now it operates smoothly.
The battery life is definitely on the poor side. I struggle to make it through a three hour class with only Word and the Internet open. I always need to plug in.
It looks like it might have an additional battery that can be added to the bottom, but I haven't explored that nor want the added weight.
Was a little worried about a refurb even though I friend and computer geek mentioned they are often more vetted than the new ones. My fears were unfounded.
I haven't figured out how the function keys work, but I imagine that's in the settings. Somewhere.
It came loaded with Windows 7 which is ok. I'd prefer 10 but don't know if it can handle that.

I needed something to take notes in class. Perfect size for a backpack. At first battery didn't last very long, but it seems to getting better with repeated proper charger: Near full deplete, then full charge.
Seems zippy enough. Can handle multiple windows. Had to download a driver to control the track pad which was odd it wasn't already on it.
