Printer Envy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I previously had the HP Envy 6000e model, and there was no printer display. It left me constantly guessing at what the printer was doing, especially when things weren't going as planned (lots of flashing icons and the app didn't shed any light). The 6155e fixes this oversight, and it's a big deal. Being able to control the printer settings from the touch display screen without having to access the printer by logging in is so much easier. And having the printer tell you what's going on is so refreshing. For example, when I first attempted to print the printer was not responding. I checked out the HP Smart App and it didn't tell me much. Then I looked at the display screen and it informed me that the firmware was being updated! The printer itself works pretty flawlessly using the HP Smart App. The initial setup was easy, as the app took you through step by step, from connecting to the internet to aligning the printer heads. It's easy to print photos and documents directly from your phone without having to deal with a computer. The noise from the printer is pretty minimal, and the documents and photos are high quality. It takes a bit of time to print out a standard 4x6 photo, but the results are great. It also automatically detects paper size in the tray, and supports duplexing to print double-sided. Scanning and copying is also very easy and the quality is solid. All in all, a solid printer for your everyday needs. The only con I have encountered so far is the printing speed, but what's the hurry?

Good Home Printer but only for Occasional Use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using the HP Envy 6165E all in one printer for a few days now. This is a HP Instant-Ink model, meaning it's ink and print by subscription. There's 6 months included, which is generous enough for you to work out what you tier you need. The plans now start at $1.79 for up to 10 pages, which is great for casual and occasional printing (a return label, or school form). In the box: HP Envy 6165e Power Cable 2 x Ink Cartridges (1 x Black, 1x TriColor) Setup was easy. Plug in, power on, the very clear and bright screen will show you a QR code and walk you through the setup process of downloading the HP Smart App, installing toner, etc. I did my first test print in just a few minutes. Colors are clear and vibrant, and the Envy 6165E is relatively quiet for an ink jet. I also did a test scan, again - easy and the HP Smart App is truly one of the better printer apps out there. What makes me drop the HP Envy 6165E to 3 stars is there's a few little frustrations. The paper tray is tiny. At first I didn't even realize where it was because it was so thin, making this not a printer to use if you're printing several pages of college admission essays to edit and review. The other unusual choice is the color cartridge is both small and 3 inks in one cartridge (see photo, quarter for size). This is not really the most efficient or environmentally friendly choice, as you will undoubtedly return good unused colored ink because you have run short on one color. I really prefer separate ink tanks for each color. Overall though, the HP Envy 6165E fits into a certain use - if you need a nice looking printer for home, need to print a few pages a month, then this might be the perfect Instant Ink printer. As it's not designed to encourage lots of printing, making it good value. But if you print a lot, you may be better at looking at other HP Instant Ink models that have bigger paper trays and 3 separate color tanks.

HP Envy 6165E AIO - A great home office printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do like HP printers, mostly for the ease of setting them up and their ease of use. Just recently added to the 6100 line comes the Envy 6165E with a nice redesign. Let's have a look at how good it is. Before I go into specifics, I'd like to say that this is a *home office* printer. It would actually be more precise to call it an everyday, all-in-one, all purpose *family* printer, as it leaves out a couple of common, convenient office options to keep the price low (such as an automatic document feeder). It doesn't mean you can't use it as a small office printer, but it might fall a bit short and make some operations a bit more tedious. It sports a small color touchscreen which is rather easy to use and allows quick access to all the main functions. Let's move on to the unboxing. You get the printer, 2 ink cartridges, a power cable and a bunch of leaflets for easy installation and setup. I was mostly surprised at the small form factor. It's a very compact printer which won't take up much room. As a matter of fact, this might be one of the few AIO printers with such a small footprint. I started installation using my smartphone as this has been a much more streamlined experience. The whole software setup took about 15 minutes and another 5 minutes for a firmware update. I would recommend to NOT skip the printhead alignment process. It really does make a big difference and makes sure you don't end up with streaks and the infamous "ladder" effect. Next, let's talk about the ink. You get two cartridges. Black and Color. That is usually a big red flag for me. Ink cartridges containing more than one color are usually wasting a big chunk of ink if you only run out of one of the three. The yellow is often the first one to go and you'll have no other option but to replace the entire thing even if it still holds other colors. Besides being a wasteful, it's also a pain in the rear and might end up costing you a pretty penny in ink over time. On the plus side, if you choose to go with HP's automatic ink delivery, they offer you 6 months of ink for free. The scanner is fairly basic but it gets the job done, even though if it's one of the slowest I've even seen. Printing speeds vary of course as a photo print will take a bit of time, but documents are printed much faster. Note that there is an actual paper tray and not a dust catching pop-out in the back. So many printers in this price range do not have such an option, but HP was very wise to design the Envy with drawers instead. Now, let's see how the printer does in its main function: Printing. In order to see how well a printer can handle prints, I always pick some of the cheapest paper first. It's closer to everyday use and gives you a better idea as to how it will look on higher paper grades. The results were surprisingly good. Even a full page picture came out quite well (check the pictures I've included with the review). Text is clean without bleeding or artifacts. I do think that HP has hit a high with this printer in terms of print quality. I also used a heavier and more glossy paper and it came out with strikingly vibrant colors. Don't expect photo quality, but it's more than decent for a machine at that price. To sum it up, I'd say the HP Envy 6165E is a solid, but not flawless printer. It's ease of use, ease of installation and above average prints make it a good choice if you only have a small print volume. I regret the lack of separated color ink tanks as in this day and age, we shouldn't produce unnecessary waste (for the user and the environment). Nevertheless, it's a nice printer with many positive aspects, so I will give it a 4 star review, even though it tends to be more of a 3.5.

Excellent print quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Received printer in perfect condition. Setup was very straight forward. Remove tape, plug in, select language, country etc. Scanning the QR code brings up a start page that walks you through the rest of the setup process. The cartridges snap in firmly, and the printer was ready to run in just a few minutes. I had installed HP Smart app and started testing the printer. That is when I ran into issues. The printer was connected to Wi-Fi, and communicating with the computer. It showed the installed cartridges and ink levels. I could scan and see the scan on computer, but would not print from computer. And could print copies directly from printer control panel. Decided to try a different computer, and it worked perfectly. After some digging on the internet, it appears the HP drivers are not fully compatible with some of the ARM / Snapdragon Co-Pilot 64 processors. I tried the HP universal print drivers to no avail. Keep this in mind if your computer has this type of processor. On to printing. The connection to Wi-Fi worked perfectly. The printer takes a moment to spool, but after that it prints very quickly. The printed page looked crisp and very dynamic. The colors were sharp and saturated. Using the scan function also yielded good results. The front control panel is full color, and includes a number of settings and functions. You can scan, copy, change settings etc. The printer is designed to only be compatible with genuine HP new or re-manufactured cartridges. Installing generic cartridges will cause the printer to stop working and give an error message. However, you can opt for automatic ink refills through HP. Overall, a good all in one printer in this price range.

Slim, simple addition to my home office
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This HP Envy model is a nice utility printer for everyday jobs. I already own a 9000 pro series, but I was looking for something with less footprint that could process day-to-day stuff that comes up in my small creative business. Normally, I'm frustrated with the bundled software that comes with devices. I find that device manufacturers are generally poor app developers, and the interface can be clunky and distracting. Not so with HP - setup of this printer was an absolute breeze with the HP Smart tool I was already using. Likewise, the ink subscription program is a nice touch. I know that some folks are pretty price-sensitive when it comes to these kinds of consumables, but I find the convenience of the subscription plan to be a surprisingly useful organizational unlock. The profile of this printer is great. It's super slim and sleek in an all white finish and I think it looks good on the shelf where it lives in my office. It's got a responsive touch screen (more points for good on-board interface design here), and the slides & hinges are smooth and don't any fiddling to operate. (In this respect, I think this model outpaces my higher-end all-in-one from HP.) The print quality is quite good. I don't ask it to do much (invoices, forms, mostly text-based use cases) - but when photos or other images are required, it holds its own. No printer in this market segment can be trusted for high-art, archival printing, but you can get by with this in a pinch. Overall, a very good value if you're looking for a better-than-average office printer (especially if you'd like it to look nice in the process).

Great Printer for Light Print Requirements
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This HP Envy wireless printer is an excellent choice if you are looking for a nice budget printer and you do not need it to do a lot of heavy duty printing. As long as your printing requirements are light, you can't go wrong with this model. Like most people I do not have to do a lot of priming anymore since most things can be done digitally now instead of printing. I do need a printer for occasional use so getting this model was an easy choice for me. The first step is to download the HP App and use it to configure the printer. Once this is done everything else is quite intuitive. One thing I appreciated is the color touch display. The screen doubles as a control panel and it is very easy to see and use. One thing I don’t like about some other printer displays is that they have monochrome displays that are difficult to see in low light. Not this model which is a huge plus. The App walks you through the setup process which mostly consists of installing the ink cartridges and connecting to Wi-Fi. I was able to easily print both from my PC and my iPhone. Just remember that the device you are printing from must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. It is possible to print from home using the App and HP cloud printing. The print quality is excellent, especially in this price range. Colors are vibrant and the blacks are deep. Most people shopping in this price range will be satisfied by the print quality. HP offers a subscription service for ink. It is very affordable and 6 months of ink is included. This is especially helpful because in my experience after several months, inkjet printer ink tends to dry out. HP has always offered quality printing options in all price ranges. The Envy 6165e is no exception and is in my opinion, among the best in its class for printers at this price range. I am looking forward to using it over its lifespan.

Very pleased with my purchase!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer was very easy to set up. So far it has worked perfectly for me. Nice print quality. I don't print a lot, so I chose the HP+ Instant ink subscription to make things easier. I like that you can chose a plan with as few as 10 pages per month. Very pleased with my purchase so far.

Decent Basic All-in-One Printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I received the HP Envy 6165e Printer, I was not thrilled to find that there was only two ink cartridges with it. That means that there is one black ink cartridge and one cartridge that contained all the colors - magenta, cyan and yellow. That also means that if any one of those three colors run out, then the cartridge needs to be replaced regardless of how much ink is left of the other two colors. This is wasteful. And considering how expensive it is to replace that three color cartridge, it is a sad ploy to get you to sign up for the HP Instant Ink promotion. The Ink promotion isn't too bad, if you print a ton of pictures or large colorful reports or color brochures, but if you are like me, then you will only need to use this basic level of printer on an occasional basis. The promotion does include sending you prepaid mailers for you to send your used cartridges back to HP for recycling. Other than the ink disappointment, the setup of the printer requires Internet connection and can be setup for your phone and / or your computer. I found the download and setup for both simple enough, but I found that the print driver functionality for both devices seems to differ and it is more complex printing a borderless 4"x 6" color photo on gloss photo paper off the phone than it is off of the computer. I kept getting errors saying that there is a mismatch in paper types, even though I had set the paper type up both on the printer and in the application. I finally got a photo printed off the phone, but it did not come out borderless. I may need to play some more with the print dialog settings to get it to print borderless off the phone, but I had no issues printing the same photo borderless off of the computer. The print quality and color is good on photos, but with just 3 color inks it lacks the definition of a multi-ink printer made specifically for photo printing. Regular word documents print out nicely and crisply on plain paper. The scanning function and software works well for both the phone and computer. The copy function at the machine is simple and works well, though I miss having a document feeder for those multiple page scans and copies. All-in-all this HP Envy 6165e does all the basics well. I would suggest it for a user such as someone with a small home office, small business office or a student that may need a printer for their school work.

sleek low profile all-in-one from HP
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP Envy 6165e All-in-One Printer is a sleek model which handles mainly letter size printing and scanning. It offers a mobile fax feature (send) but there are no connections for the old-style analog phone lines for a true fax machine functionality, so you can’t receive faxes with this unit. Scanning is accomplished via a flatbed scanner, the HP Envy 6165e All-in-One Printer does not have an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), so it is single, manual per page affair on the flatbed/scanning surface. If you plan on doing multiple page scanning this may not be the unit for you. Setup was simple; however, it really requires use of the HP smart mobile app – I did not try to set up the printer manually. Network connectivity is via Wi-Fi; you can connect the printer directly via a USB connector to a PC or Mac. Speaking of Macs, this printer has Air Print capabilities, allowing you to print from iPhones, iPads, Macs and anything else from the Apple ecosystem. My Windows 11 PC required that I go into the Settings menu and add a device, it found the HP Envy 6165e All-in-One Printer easily and configured it printing and scanning. Print ink is contained in two separate cartridges, a tricolor and a black cartridge. You can only use HP cartridges in this printer and their Instant Ink service comes free for six months at the time of this review. Printing large quantities is neither cost effective nor practical, the paper tray holds 100 sheets of letter size or A4 paper, the output tray has a 25-page capacity. The device uses HP 68 Black or 68e Black (extra output) and 68 Tri-color ink cartridges. The printer has a 2.4-inch color touch screen to access functions directly. I used the touchscreen to search for and install a new firmware update. Printing overall plain letter paper yielded good results and was close to the advertised speed of 7 color or 10 black pages per minute. As with most printers or all-in-ones, at this price point two ink replacement cartridges can cost almost as much as this printer. The printer manufacturers really make their profit on consumables. Not much else to mention here, this is a decent basic All-in-One printer that is for light to medium use. Pros: - Sleek, with a low height footprint - Small touch screen - Value priced. Cons: - Does not handle legal size paper - No hardwired ethernet connection - May be difficult or impossible to use non HP ink cartridges - Scanning makes more noise than it should.

Good for light printing needs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I am pleased with this printer. I purchased it to replace a much larger and older HP printer. I like the smaller more compact size of it, and it prints well. The instant ink function is also great since I don't have to stop in store to buy more ink. If you print alot of documents I would not recommend this, since the ink will run out fast and the paper tray is small. I went through the first round of ink fast because I had a lot to print at the time. But if you need a compact printer and only print occasionally small amounts, this is a great choice. The setup with the HP was a little confusing and took some time for the printer to show up in the app but eventually got it to work.

Strong, home use, smart printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP Envy 6165E Inkjet All-in-One printer was a pleasant surprise for me. I almost exclusively use laser printers but thought I would give this handy, smart inkjet printer a try. Features & Pros: - This printer is smart - if you choose to enroll in the HP Instant Ink program, you don't have to worry about monitoring your ink levels. The printer will automatically ping HP to ship you ink in a just-in-time manor. I did not sign up for this program initially ... I wanted to get to know the printer first. But, it is worth noting the first 6 months of ink are included! - This printer is faster than I expected. Fast and easy wifi setup, fast installation, and fast printing. Even printing a full-size image/picture, this printer exceeded my expectations for speed. - The scanner yielded excellent image quality both for documents and pictures. The scanning function is reasonably fast though I wouldn't call it speedy. - The copy function is also reasonably fast and very easy to use. - Print quality is reasonable given the technology this printer uses. It has two cartridges - one for black, and the other for colors rather than separate black, cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges. I see this as both a pro and con (see below). Cons & Final Thoughts: - Looking on HP's website, the smart auto-order of the ink could potentially be expensive, especially if you have multiple people in your household using this printer. - The "combined" colors cartridge doesn't yield a print quality I would call great - at best, decent. - As a predominantly laser printer user, when printing a full size photo with this printer, the paper (and resulting image) came out feeling dry, but the paper had ripples in it as if it had gotten wet. - The touch panel can lag a little bit - When opening the flatbed scanner, the scanner light blinks rapidly. I tried to capture that in a picture. It's not really a con, but very weird and kind of disturbing when you're trying to place photos or documents on the scanner glass. Overall, for the price point, I would say this is a strong contender in the overly crowded printer world. Not the best printer I've ever used, but I would recommend it for light, home use. Just keep an eye on ink spending... it can add up quickly!

Unbelievably Great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can’t believe how good this printer is for the price!! I print a lot of things from my iPhone, the connection seemed a little slow at first but after some updates, it’s working like a champ! Better than or equal too—many 200 dollar printers I’ve in the past! I have tried to scan anything yet. The print quality and speed are great too.
