Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the ENVY Desktop's performance, ease of use, and ample storage, frequently citing its large hard drive and generous RAM as significant advantages. Many appreciate the computer's value for the price. However, some users express dissatisfaction with the lack of an operating system and the learning curve associated with Windows 8. A few also mention that the graphics card could be improved.

This is a quality computer for normal household use. Need more processing for recording or editing, go for the i7 processor.

Four hard drive fails in a month

I bought the HP Envy on 2/7 and tried to set it up the next day. The machine would not even update itself, it just kept re-booting and trying to install updates. This went on for hours. Took it back and swapped for another one. (Best Buy was great about the exchange!) Got 2nd HP set up and all went well for three days. Then the blue screen with a hard drive fail. Ran hard drive diagnostics, and it says it has no operating system installed. Hard shut down per Geek Squad and machine boots back up normally. All is well for three weeks, then I come home from work with a blue screen again. Hard drive fail. Repeat diagnostics test and says there is not operating system installed. Again, hard shut down and restart and everything is fine until 3 hours later, and same thing. Three days later, same thing. I'm in contact with HP now and not sure what their resolution is yet. I will update. I have always had Dell computers and this one was replacing a 13 year old machine that never had to be taken in for a repair, only some upgrading. At this point, I am regretting deciding to save a little money and going with the HP. You get what you pay for.

OK for browsing and old gameplay.

I bought this from our local best buy yesterday. My old alienware finally bit the dust and this was the highest price desktop they had. So I get it home and hook it up. Talk about a basic model. It runs windows pretty well but sometimes going to different web pages it just white screens in ie and doesn't go so I have to press back and try again. I run neverwinter online and graphics are very blurry and not appealing sort of like a ps2 compared to a ps4. I open it up and the graphics card and mobo are the same thing it has only 1 PCI expansion slot and the power supply it comes with won't support a better card. So I will have to upgrade a bit to make this work. Not the best on the prefomance side like I was expecting.

    Incompetence, disfunction and disregard

Purchased Envy 700-24 three days ago from Best Buy. Spent 2-1/2, 14-hour days loading software. Wireless download speed was less than .5Mbps, compared to an iMac sitting next to it that was 100 times faster. HP tech support told me to reset, despite all my time invested. Said they would call back in 30 minutes, and not to leave the phone or computer until they did. Would not let me back up files. Didn't fix the problem and they didn't call for three hours, at 2 a.m.. I tried wired connection and that worked, so the wireless card is defective. Called today for supervisor who neither apologized nor helped, put me back to tech. Despite my showing him wired vs. wireless speed tests, he was clueless and argued that it was fine. Why would I want to deal with a company who treats their customers like this? They offered to ship it to them to look at - which would take about 2-1/2 weeks - I bought this 3 days ago and it was flawed out of the box. The combination of broken new products and their incalculably incompetent tech support certainly do not speak for this as a valid solution. Their tech support should at least speak comprehensible English, even if they are incapable of supporting their products. If you are moderately sane, avoid this product. Best Buy did not wrong...they are great!

    Icons keep re arranging

The desktop icons keep re arranging when the monitor awakens from sleep mode, and it takes 2-5 min. to fully awaken. Geek squad cannot find anything wrong. I may end up taking it back.

    Memory Mangement Error/Blue Screen/Installation

I spent two evenings trying to transfer files and install the windows updates, but was plagued with the dreaded Memory Management error. Even after calling customer service, they were not able to get the computer to run correctly. I had to wait several days (over the weekend) for installation disks to come in the mail. I spent an evening trying to install the disks with no luck. After all of this, I will be returning this computer tomorrow for a refund. I am really disappointed. :(

    Computer very slow

As with most of my purchases at Best Buy I have been disappointed. It is very slow at times. I asked the clerk for a very fast computer and this is what I got. All kinds of Wi-Fi issues, but I don't have any Wi-Fi issues with my other computers. Just not a good computer. My old computer of 5 years ago outperformed this.

    WILL NOT START UP CONSISTENTLY!

Bought brand new today but will not start up. The only way that I can get to the log in page is if I turn the power on, then the screen goes to the blank purple page and stays that way indefinitely. I have to then push the power button to go to sleep, then reawake it, then MAYBE sometimes it goes to the login page. I might have a lemon, but this is unacceptable out of a $700+ tower. VERY DISAPPOINTED! Will be returning ASAP!
