My wife is not techie, but loves having a laptop next to her couch ofr looking stuff up quickly. I normally go the cheap route as she is just a web browser type person. I splurged for her birthday. this unit has plenty of power and only took 20 minutes to get ready for her when we got home. she loves the touch screen and that it is a big screen also. I don't use it, so I can not comment on how much power it truly has.

It's a 'good' computer but I'm not convinced that it's a 'great' computer! The touchpad seemed to be super sensitive when I first started using the computer. Just getting near it seemed to send the curser to some other area of the screen. I could not figure out how to dial it down or disable it with out calling for technical support and even then it took two people to get to the control location and disable it. This should be straight forward and simple to toggle on/off.
With less than one months use I began experiencing a black out of the display while on the internet which lasted only a second however when it came back I had a "display driver failure" message. Shortly thereafter when waking it wouldn't power back on until I completely cut power from the computer. After a couple hours with the tech support people and having all the drivers reloaded the problem seems to have been resolved. However I was told that this has happened with others and on one occasion a the display board and mother board needed to be replaced.
I'm not feeling very confident in my purchase but am willing to give it time.
Unfortunately when the techs reloaded the drivers and did their work the touchpad was toggled back on. Still not being able to determine how to turn it off I called again and the tech I talked to this time merely decreased the sensitivity. This has helped - however there are occasions when I still have to look to see where the curser has disappeared to! I would prefer it be turned off again!
Otherwise the system is functioning flawlessly and seems to be a pretty nice computer.
I especially like the back lighting on the keyboard. I use the computer a quite often during the night and appreciate not having to turn on lights just to be able to see the keys,
I would recommend this to any one - but with the caution that while it hasn't been the rock solid computer I had hoped for, it has been doing all that I need it to do and appears to be working as it should be. Hopefully it will continue to work properly and that I can gain some confidence with it. Then I will feel a lot more comfortable with my purchase!

This is a 4-1/2 star rating. I bought the HP Envy TouchSmart Laptop for my grandson for college. He chose this laptop over the others in the Best Buy Store for its functionalities. He likes the touch screen and the back-lit keyboard in particular. I also bought the Microsoft Home Office and Student Bundle, Webroot, 2 Year Protection and a 16GB Flash Drive to complete the package. He is very happy with the laptop.

My wife dropped her laptop so she needed a new one. She decided on this one for a couple reasons. 1) she had to have backlight keyboard and 10 key function. 2) I wanted a certain amount of speed and memory. 3) Together we wanted to stay in a certain price range. This laptop hit all the for us. We have not had any problems with the unit.
We do have a black spec of something on the inside screen. I plan on taking it to geek squad and asking them to remove the spec from the screen.

When the screen of my old HP went out, I didn't think there was going to be the right replacement out there. This ENVY has almost everything my old one had. I'm a very picky computer purchaser, but this one covered my basics. I was sad that there wasn't a disc drive, but knew that from the beginning and purchased a USB one. Not a fan of the Windows 8.1, but HP can't help that. Overall, great computer, but will never be like my old one...

Great for an upgraded everyday laptop. But ultimately traded it in for a gaming Lenovo for $300 more. I've always been a fan of AMD, but they have fallen way behind Intel. Until they get back in the race, they will always be a lower budget brand. The FX chip is okay, and outdoes the basic graphics of an intel chip for gaming, but its still very slow. If you are thinking of gaming, pay a little more for a dedicated graphics card.

Blazing Fast, plays all the latest games, multitasking is seamless. The touchscreen is very responsive. Although not full hd the colors are crisp and beautiful. A good tradeoff for the price. I love the light up keyboard and the beats audio sounds amazing with some tweaking. Fan is quiet and I don't miss the dvd optical drive. Very light. gets a little warm with heavy usage but never overheated. Ram is pretty cheap for this beast and you can upgrade mem, hard drive to a ssd. Max capacity is 16gb ram. Very pleased with my purchase

It purchased this laptop for my fiancee as a birthday gift, and I have to say, it was great to find a laptop within my budget that had all the features I knew he'd love: great amount of memory, touch screen, Beats audio--there's nothing left to be desired! The touch screen is so smooth and responsive, just like a smartphone. It's very sleek and stylish like the MacBook Pro that I'm used to using! One minor hiccup: the first laptop we purchased was this same one, brand new, in-box, but the "d" key didn't work right away, and the keys surrounding it only worked half the time. That entire side of the keyboard felt a little "softer" when you pressed the keys--difficult to describe, but we knew it wasn't right. We exchanged it the next day, for the exact same model, and the new laptop has worked perfectly since day one.

Still getting used to the touchscreen part but it's pretty neat. It's not heavy but it's sturdy and the audio is pretty good too (way better than my last hp laptop anyway). Only my arrow is spazzing out sometimes so I need to go get it checked but other than that it's running smoothly in my first month of purchase.

This computer with the soon to be abandoned 8.1 is frustrating to try to do anything with. Going from the manageable seven system to the 8.1 on a newly configured computer s like learning to walk again after a bad car wreck. We also bought Office 365 and we may get it properly installed just before the Ten comes out.

Set-up was ok. If you've never used this particular OS before, then it's going to you a little while to get use to. The platform kind of has everything scattered about. The touch screen is great and the display is great, but the fingerprints are not. I've always had a PC, and this one is great, but I wish they would incorporate more of the old OS so this one didn't seem so clunky.

The keyboard back lite is best feature on this . However I hate windows 8. All I can say like others have, It's stupid. I also feel the mouse area is just too big for it. The touch screen feature, fantastic..
But with the mouse area so big, when your hands and fingers go over the area, it changes programs and things happen when I don't want them too. Then you have to redo it all. a waste of time and patience.
I go back and use my old laptop way more than I should. I bought a new one for a reason. I want a lit keyboard and touch screen..
I don't get if I have to resort to using my old laptop.
Take out windows 8.. Windows 7 is just fine and works better.
Make the mouse area smaller and less sensitive. Otherwise it's a waste of money.

I recently purchased an HP - ENVY TouchSmart 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop. The size and weight are prefect for transporting. I love the touch screen and the resolution is good. The Geek Squad did a good job setting me up with what I needed.
