Excellent 15" laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the hp envy with the AMD FX-7500 APU with 6B ram & R7 graphics. As soon as I got it home I added 4Gb of ram to make it 12GB total. This laptop was an upgrade from a 15" dell with 4GB of ram and a core i3 processor. This laptop boots into windows 8.1 (came with 8.) very quickly, switches between apps smoothly and will even do gaming on medium settings (depends on game). The sound is awesome on this laptop, it's very loud and crisp. Don't expect booming lows, as this is still a laptop, but the beats audio is second to none. It runs relatively cool, unless I am running a demanding game or benchmarking, but that's to be expected. It's whisper quiet while in normal operation, which is a great thing. The screen is a little lacking however. The viewing angles aren't as good as my wifes dell 15" touchscreen w/IPS, and teh colors seem a bit washed out, but overall it's a decent experience for this price range. The touch screen is an added bonus for me, and it's very responsive and responds quickly. This laptop does not have a dvd or blu-ray drive, but that's honestly not a big deal for me as most software offers digital downloads. Windows 8.1 is different, but very fast and so far hassle free. I would give this laptop an 8.5 / 10 overall, docking points for the viewing angles of the screen and slight color misrepresentation. Features are: (stock) AMD FX-7500 quad core APU @ 2.1ghz - turboboost to 3.3ghz 6GB DDR3 Ram 750GB Sata II HD 1 GB Radeon R7 128bit - DDR3 @ 667mhz 15" touchscreen LED backlit Full backlit keyboard with numeric keypad 802.11 n wireless lan with bluetooth 2 usb 3.0 ports and 2 usb 2.0 ports HDMI out and micro card slot reader. Internal LAN Beats audio with subwoofer

Spend a Little More to get a Better Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for school and thought that it was a really good price compared to other models for the features. I got it home and started using it and experienced a horrible lag each time I tried to open a program, or even go to the start menu. It was running slower than the laptop we bought five years ago. Someone told me it was because Windows was operating slow, but I went back to the store and tested another computer with better specs and there was no lag in processing. I literally could count 3-5 seconds in between the time I clicked on an icon and the program actually opened. Maybe it sounds petty, but to me it was pretty frustrating especially spending the money I was on a new laptop. The mouse pad also does not work very well as a lot of times it's like it couldn't even sense my fingers. I'm glad I bought a wireless mouse because I ended up having to use either that or the touchscreen most of the time. I returned this model and got a different HP laptop (2 in 1) that had the same features as this, but better specs and it was definitely worth the extra $140 to have a laptop that runs the way I expect it to. Both Best Buy and Microsoft were super helpful with getting everything switched over to the new computer, too. If you don't care about speed - this laptop has great features for the price, but if something like speed is important to you, spend the extra money and get one with better specs.

Great all-around laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop about a month ago, and I absolutely love it! The backlit keyboard is pretty awesome, nice and bright. Boot time is pretty quick. I've had no overheating issues with this laptop like I did on my last one. I wish the battery life were longer, but this actually has an average battery life compared to other laptops, so I really can't complain.

good, fast with decent graphics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS: Fast with a decent CPU and decent graphics with the R7 GPU. Fast enough to load video and animation-heavy web pages with no problem. Runs my image editing software (GIMP) smoothly. Also decent for gaming, though some of the more demanding games of the past few years (such as Crysis series, Witcher 2) will only run smoothly with settings turned way down. Still, you could probably run 90% of the games on Steam with no problems. Beats audio speakers give loud, vibrant sound with decent bass. Nice backlit keyboard. CONS: For a big laptop, the 1366 x 768 screen resolution is kind of low. (Retina display, this ain’t). The lack of sharpness is noticeable, but you can get used to it. Also, only 750 GB hard drive and only 6GB memory as opposed to the more common 8GB on most newer laptops… But despite this, I think the laptop is a very good deal, especially if you need a fast machine with decent graphics/video capability.

Not worth ~$600
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for school thinking that the A10-5745M was going to be a great cpu for it. Well other than the absolute trash Control Pad (trackmat) it froze when I tried to write and run programs for class, the screen has such bad glare problems that unless the room is dark you need the brightness up just so there is no reflection and you can read it. Very sluggish when updating, CPU is very hot and anemic at best. This laptop even with HP Coolsense turned on gets very hot. The battery life is maybe 4.5 hours, and that was with balanced power mode and three bumps from 0 brightness up. Barley able to read the screen, useless touchpad, deceptively heavy 6.1 lbs, and sub 5 hour battery. If you plan on doing anything with this other than very light media (internet) or word processing and e-mail this is not the computer for you. Actually just bought a Dell Inspiron 15.6 that has so far made it 8.5 hours and is just over 4 lbs. Also i5, even a Pentium is faster than the A10. I love Hp have had nothing but HP laptops and one desktop since I was 16, now I'm 24 and this just really failed. Just really do your research and please if you get it, run online stress tests and you will see what I mean. On the positive note, it does look fantastic, great finish, the pads for not slipping work great. Just heavy, slow, and hot. Not for IT majors, running programs and emulators for android and ios bog it down and crash it. Get at least an i3.

Great Value and Expansion
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the money, this system represents excellent value. The AMD FX chip provides a built in R7 graphics that is good enough for some light gaming and accelerates apps like Photoshop. I think that the performance is better than an Intel based IGP solution, common in this price range. Hard to say if the boost is from raw power or just better optimization for AMD Radeon hardware. You sacrifice a bit of battery life and CPU speed for the benefit of enhanced graphics performance, but for those wanting a more balanced range of capabilities, this is likely one of the best. I purchased this with the intention of replacing the built in hard disk with an SSD. But, I did use it in the stock configuration for several days and while the system was obviously I/O limited in most tasks, it still felt good when running applications. With the SSD installed it is much zippier. At that point you become CPU limited and the system feels very fast. For those who are interested in doing this, I highly recommend it. The HP recovery DVDs that you can create can be used to re-install the OS on your new drive. Note: I wasn't able to get the recovery disks to install on a 128GB SSD but it worked just fine on a 256. So it is possible that you need a disk at least in that range. The SSD that worked for me was a Crucial MX100 256GB. The laptop build quality is better than expected. The case feels solid and stays pretty cool. Coming from a company issued Macbook Pro ($2500) to this didn't feel like much of a downgrade, despite the price disparity. The FX is no i7 but it was hard to notice once the SSD was in there. The keyboard flexes a bit too much, but isn't a bad keyboard in terms of overall feel. While the lid and other visible parts are a nice solid metal, the underside is plastic. Both good and bad if you ask me. Access to the replaceable memory and hard drive is as simple as removing the battery and a single screw. It is a bit of a shame that there is no optical drive, since many people might not have a large enough flash drive to build the USB-stick recovery option. Two of the four USB ports are high-speed USB3. Meh. The biggest disappointment for me is actually the beats audio. The only thing about the speakers that impresses is the volume. They sure do get loud. The fidelity is poor however and the low-end is nearly non-existent. Still, it is better than the average built-ins so maybe they felt that would be enough to call them "beats". None of those lows can take away from what is still a very good value for a well-rounded machine that can handle just about anything. I've played Far Cry 3 on low settings and Endless Legend on High and felt like both played pretty well. I use the VM features (enabled through a bios option, F10) and have several VMs running while I code without slowdown. It gets five stars from me, for doing the job and not breaking the bank.

Really nice, but mouse issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading all the good reviews i decided to purchase this laptop. the day i had gotten it, the mouse began acting erratic and clicking or moving to wherever it wanted. A week later after trying tons of "solutions", I thought i had gotten a defective one and exchanged it for another (same one). This one is doing the same thing the old one did except not as often. Other than the mouse problems this laptop is very nice.

Best laptop buy for the 500-700 range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: 1. First off for $640 you're getting an R8 Graphics card which is extremely good. I bought my dad a laptop also at the same time for $560 that had an intel 4600 instead and an intel i5 processor and it ran games on "Fair". with the R8 on this I was running games on High settings. 2 levels higher then the fair setting as recommended on the intel. 2. Backlit keyboard. It has a beautiful white backlight on all the keys that make it exceptionally better then laptops that don't have it if you plan to ever use it late at night or in dim light. 3. Touch screen. This was my first touch screen laptop. I was reluctant to get one that had this feature, but after trying it I love it. Cons: -Like most computers bought at Best Buy it came with a bunch of junk bloatware apps that I needed to delete. -The mousepad is completely messed up from the moment I turned on the laptop that I have to return it. Mouse freezes, it goes wherever it wants. I hope it's a factory defect as I'm returning it tomorrow for a replacement.

Great computer for price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer has met all my expectations. It seems to be very well built and durable. The touch screen has very fast response time. I love the AMD FX processor. Works great watching live streaming events and programs. The Beats speakers sound better than any speakers I have had in any of my previous laptops. The lit keyboard function works great in low light conditions. The color and clarity of screen is excellent. Windows 8 takes some getting use to but has its advantages once you figure it out. I have not found any negatives to this computer to this point.

Great Computer!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my grandmother for Christmas. Aside from Windows 8.1, it's a fast, powerful machine, and even with Windows 8.1, it runs really well. Transferred all of her files over with no problem. It does not come with a DVD drive, so if you need one, be sure to get one, but aside from that, no real drawbacks that I can see. Really like it!

Could Be Better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop was a purchase for educational and business purposes. I can say I, 75% hate this laptop. I only purchased this one aside from Apple because so many individuals state that Apple products could have viruses and the owner would never know. I also liked the keyboard which has lighting. This computer has a fan that runs constantly and it keeps the computer hot. It is also never ready from start up. Allowing an additional 5-7 minutes once turned on is best or the computer freezes. I just purchased this computer less than (2) months ago and it freezes as if I've had it for years and it needs time to process. A brand new computer with nothing stored but maybe 20-30 pictures should not run like this computer does. I should have kept my first mind and purchased the apple product. Now that it is after the return policy date I have to live with his stupid computer. I am seriously considering speaking with HP on some sort of reimbursement or exchange for a better computer. I am not satisfied at all. I hate everything about this computer. Cons: Everything (Including: Horrible Camera, Battery Life) Pros: Keyboard Lighting

Think this might be a good purchase? Think again.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second HP laptop, and both I only bought them since they had good deals. However....what a mistake. Where should I start. Oh. The design...I had people ask me if it was a Macbook Pro.....honestly if you look it from far enough it does. Good job HP. The backlit keyboard is helpful at night but when I turn it on, it looks horribly cheap. The "control zone" touchpad is a piece of bad engineering. Unresponsive, unreliable. Always clicks somewhere I don't want. Now the build quality. The thing feels badly made. The black bezels around the screen creaks and rattles when I press on it. $600 isn't a small amount of money, and this is rather disappointing. The battery is totally terrible. I put it in power saving mode, and sometimes I'll forget my charger, or even though I have my charger, I don't have anywhere to plug it in, and it'll last...er.....the morning before lunch and die of document typing and web surfing. 3 hours tops? Yeah. Plus it gets uncomfortably hot when it's on my lap. The beats speaker sounds plasticky, yeah. Uhm.......It's a shameful laptop, and I can't buy another laptop cuz WHO buys a new laptop after only months of using a new one. Totally waste of money. Steer clear. Next laptop will be a macbook. Tried it for 2 weeks and did everything for me, not getting hot, all day battery, solid build quality. Speakers are way better than the"beats". DO NOT BUY THIS.
