Looks can be deceiving
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I’ve had my fair share of HP laptops through the years for both work and personal use as have many of you out there. The Envy in terms of looks is exactly as the name suggests.....something to envy. From it’s easily fingerprint covered finish to it’s touch screen to its easily convertible tablet function....the Envy is easy to envy. While sleek and beautiful it’s functionality with Windows seems a little lackluster and a little laggy with minimal programs and stellar wireless internet performance. Also, as is apparently known about, the Envy overheats with jealousy quickly. So much that I had buy an exterior cooling fan for it. I’ve had many an onlooker stare at my impressive 15.6” tablet in awe, however the Envy sometimes refuses to accept that it is no longer in tablet mode. Thus the screen will not rotate back to normal mode without a quick shutdown. One of the few great qualities are the graphics and amazing battery life. I would say that this behemoth, that my Michael Kors bag hates, is a decent laptop if you’re an HP loyalist but not for the almost 900 dollar price tag. I would say spend the extra and get yourself a base Mac or even a Dell.

Best Value Laptop for the price
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this laptop for about a week but would definitely reccomend it to anyone looking for a solid mid-ranged laptop. Reason is because it has a mid ranged price (will go down to $549) but specs pretty much blow away anything intel-powered for at least few hundred dollars. Laptop felt really premium and thin when it came to the aluminum design and the screen was good enough for indoor viewing although pixels were slightly grainy at lower display zoom levels (like 100-125% in Windows 10). Speakers were pretty good too, but I had to change the preset setting to movie mode for it to really shine. Port selection is great, but my favorite is that the USB-C supports PD charging (with a higher powered 45+W charger) unlike quite a few other laptops. Although I did like this laptop, I ended up returning it in the end just because I decided I preferred a smaller/lighter form factor. It's still pretty thin for its size with weight distribution being pretty impressive. After trying a few other competitors though, I decided to get the 13-inch version of this from HP online just because of how well they designed this one and the fact that Intel just can't compete with the new Ryzen 4000 chips

Great deal
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is just what I needed for college and other things as well. Take this review from someone who is very peculiar when it comes to buying things as I've done extensive research on specs for laptops. First off the keyboard is amazing since I have to do a lot of typing assignments, essays, and occasional gaming its great for what it is. Its fast and snappy when loading websites, restarting, opening what ever due to the SSD its definitely a huge upgrade from an older laptop I was using since 2011. The screen size is perfect for everything 15.6 inches is just right for watching movies, shows, anime, and basically anything when the crisp resolution of 1920×1080. One thing about this laptop though is that its not light but not heavy either its in the middle just don't expect to hold it with your fingers for to long. The laptop is fairly quiet even with max performance on when playing games but I would say that this is great for light gaming for left 4 dead and such. Overall the build of the laptop feels and looks premium with the price tag of $600 when I bought it during blackfriday I couldn't have been more pleased. If your looking for a laptop for school or entertainment this would be a solid choice. One last thing the track pad is good but I would recommend buying a wireless mouth with this laptop for more accurate faster mouse movement.

Early review: Amazing specs with awful execution
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have had this laptop for about 24 hours, and I am going to start with my complaints first. I am a huge fan of HP computers; I have had many and never had an issue in the past. This computer is for my girlfriend, and when I saw the Ryzen 4000 series come out in these HP laptops I knew it was finally time for her to upgrade. The Bad: 1) Out of the box, set-up was faulty. We set up windows, and when we got to the desktop we found that all the network adapters were disabled or not found. This means that the WIFI 6 capability that this laptop has was unavailable and unable to be turned on. We went in to troubleshoot the network adapters and the troubleshooters only suggestion was to "PLUG IN ETHERNET CABLE" which was hilarious because this laptop has no Ethernet port. So no way to access internet out of the box. The way I had to fix this was to go on my other PC, download intel WIFI AX 200 drivers and put them on an external hard drive and get them on the laptop that way. Eventually we got it done, but it was extremely unacceptable to have to do this. I am tech savvy, but my girlfriend would have never been able to figure that out and would have had to return the laptop. Since then, WIFI has been fine. 2) The amount of updates this computer needed was insane. I feel like nothing was ever updated to present on this computer, because when I finally got internet on the laptop there must have ben 50 updates, about 10 of which required us to reset the laptop. These updates varied from spotify downloads to different HP games that come on the computer, mostly HP bloatware. I have never seen such a thing. 3) I'M PUTTING THIS IN BOLD SO YOU DON'T MISS IT, THERE IS NO THUNDERBOLT PORT ON THIS COMPUTER, IT IS A USB-C PORT. I'm not sure it is worth returning the laptop over, but it is highly disappointing as they advertised this computer as having thunderbolt on best buy. 4) The computer is heavy, but this is also a POSITIVE because the whole body is aluminum. It feels super solid and premium to the touch. The good: 1) The specs of this computer are amazing for the price. The Ryzen 4000 series is game changing for laptops and we are so happy with the speed of the processor. We have run Adobe Premiere and Photoshop on this computer with no issues. 2) The RAM is DDR4 3200 which is great. It only has 8GB, but it is high quality RAM so 8GB is enough for a laptop. 3) Battery life has been great. 4) I like the screen. I read some bad reviews on the screen, but the 250 nits is bright enough to balance performance and battery life, plus the IRIS display is beautiful from any viewing angle. All in all, we are happy with the purchase and how things ended up, but the setup experience was seriously unacceptable. It is disappointing that a laptop could go out the door with no way to connect to the internet. This was clearly a defect or a mistake by HP. I will continue to be a HP customer for delivering solids PCs and ESPECIALLY now that they are including cutting edge Ryzen processors. AMD is the better choice for processors right now, hands down.

100% recommend this laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, I needed to replace my laptop which was only 2 years old and had bios problem with occasional blue screen from out of nowhere (Samsung Spin 7 13 in., I guess the motherboard was defected.). I saw this one was on sale for Christmas just one day. Ryzen 5 (w/ better graphic card than Intel's), 15.6" (w/ num. pad), ENVY (better quality than Pavilion (bottom is easily breakable), metal vs plastic), bright IPS screen w/ touch and the price was amazing. Oh, the fingersensor works flawlessly and reads my finger within 1 sec. Only drawback was Ram and storage. But these are upgradable stuffs, so I purchased this laptop. If you are concerned w/ screen quality, I can say this is one of the best screen in this budget. Yes you can say there are lighter laptops than this, but the build quality is so solid and you won't think this is heavy (it is not heavy compare to gaming laptop). FYI, there is no slot for additional SATA SSD/HDD, so I purchased 512GB PCIe SSD to replace 256GB one which is installed. Also, DDR4 2400MHz rams (8gb x 2) are on the way and the laptop is waiting for upgrade. If you want to upgrade this laptop you have to unscrew one T-5 screw (I had to buy this) and take out two long rubber things (sorry I don't know the exact name of it) to unscrew 6 more + shaped screws. Also, the bottom cover is so tight first time to take off, so you should be careful not to break anything inside of the computer. The bottom line is I am so happy with my purchase.

Quick startup, quick response when clicking on programs. Used for general, occasional online gaming. Graphics are great, screen is clear and colors look awesome. Good sound and volume. The white backlit keyboard is nice. Slim, light, and has decent battery life. Very satisfied with this computer. A great purchase for the price.

Basic
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer on a limited budget with only basic technology experience and for college use. I have been using it daily for school work for over 3 months. It is easy to use and works at a decent speed. I often am doing a lot of research and have many tabs open on the internet browser. When watching a video if I scroll down or switch tabs the screen goes black for a short period of time and I'm unsure why. I have been meaning to take it into geek squad for a while but with school and the pandemic going on, I am waiting. Overall, its a decent device for the price and does everything I need. I haven't found myself using the tablet mode but I do like the touch screen option. I have been very impressed with the battery life as it usually will last me 7 hours of use.

All round good.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this computer for just over 24 hours and all I can say about it is, great computer for the price. Setup was easy for someone like myself who is not a computer geek, everything is self explanatory and I had it up and running in 15 easy minutes. Display is super clear, reds are reds blues are blue. Backlit keyboard is very helpful and has two settings, normal and dimmer. I could not get the fingerprint reader to scan my print, but this is nothing new for myself as it happens on all my devices with this technology. I am happy with my purchase.

Possibly the Best Mid-Range Laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far one of the best laptops you can buy in 2019. It's a 360 degree 2 in 1, has a backlit keyboard, powerful Ryzen 5 3500u processor with RX Vega 8 graphics that perform well and exceed the comparable Intel i5-8250u with HD 620 graphics. It also performs just as well as the similar HP x360 model with Ryzen 7 3700U. The chipsets are almost identical and THIS model doesn't throttle because it doesn't get as hot. Therefore, this is the model to buy. So far, none of the problems I've seen reported are present in my model, making me think that others have gotten an occasional lemon. Windows Update took less than 10 minutes get up to date. I did experience an issue where Windows Hello AKA fingerprint or facial sign in was not working. HP support was quickly able to take remote control of the laptop and updated my BIOS and the driver for the fingerprint scanner, at least one of which fixed the problem. The only other problem is that the battery isn't spectacular, and I'm not sure where they are getting the 13 hour figure from. 5 hours is closer to what I'm getting, and that's not a deal-breaker considering what this computer can do for the price. The RAM is NOT soldered, and can be upgraded with 2400MHz DDR4 laptop memory. The 250GB solid state drive is a Western Digital SN520 drive with a 150TBW rating, meaning that it can be completely written to a total of 1,000 times. You can find it here: https://www.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/pc-sn520-ssd For those who want to play games, it can play almost any title, even if it has to be low settings. Fortnite definitely runs, all source games at medium settings for 60+fps. Very snappy loading times for everything. The speakers are VERY loud compared to any other model I've ever seen, and the B&O software definitely makes them sound better, albeit they are "tinny" BUT are also crisp and clear. The 15 inch IPS display has excellent angles. It is reflective and doesn't get all that bright, but it does look much like the "Cinema" quality of the new Dell XPS laptops. Combined with the aesthetics of the laptop, it's very sleek in design. The laptop comes with a 65W adapter and fully charges 0-100 in about an hour. HP also ships with new "kill switch" for the camera, which disables it through hardware so that nobody can hack it through software. I would definitely recommend this laptop to almost anyone as it is capable of usage in almost every application imaginable, even if it must be tuned down in some respect. Thanks for reading :) If you have any other technical inquiries, feel free to leave a comment, or use the "Ask a Question" button. HP representatives are usually quick to answer questions about specs that aren't listed.

Good enough computer, but.....
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good enough computer, but..... the mouse pad is very touchy, the fingerprint reader is mediocre at best, and it will not connect to wireless networks that are designated “connect automatically.” Battery is good and touchscreen works well.

Productivity-focused
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has good build quality and numerous nice-to-have features. The Ryzen cpu allows for it to be priced more competitively compared to the same laptop with an Intel cpu at around the same performance, but different laptops can have better value depending on what you're looking for. The display is 1080p IPS 60hz. It looks good, no complaints except for its reflectiveness. The touchscreen is very convenient, though the tablet mode in Windows has very little thought put into it in my opinion. The 2-in-1 aspect of this laptop is good for content consumption, though. The keyboard backlight has 2 levels of brightness, and it turns itself off after a while which is good. To change the backlight levels and turn it on or off you have to press F5. The fingerprint scanner isn't great, it fails to read my fingerprint at least 50% of the time, making me input my PIN. This laptop is not meant for gaming, though you can play some light games on it. The integrated gpu on Ryzen is much better than Intel, but if you want a gaming laptop go for one with discrete graphics.

So glad I chose this one!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer is very fast! The setup was painless and only took a few minutes. The windows update does take some time so do not select "shutdown and update" until you are ready to put the new toy down for a little while. Booting up is almost instantaneous and logging in is equally as fast when using the fingerprint reader. Just make sure to press your finger to the pad at different angles during the set up process so it will read the same fingertip from any angle. Having two keyboard back lighting brightness settings is nice feature. Hit the button once and the keys stand out in a fully to moderately lit room. Hit the button a second time and the dimmer keys are easier on the eyes in a dark room. I find it easier to see the keys on the this "Nightfall Black" AMD model over the "Natural Silver" Intel model which is priced at $849 right now. Coming from a full sized and non-convertible 15.6" laptop, it has only taken a couple of days to adjust and I am enjoying working with the keyboard, the accurate track pad and of course the touchscreen. This computer just feels substantial with its Gorilla Glass screen and aluminum body. The fans are whisper quiet and not a nuisance at all. I only noticed the fan volume increasing when I played Team Fortress, which I dowloaded through Steam. Yes, this 4th generation AMD Ryzen 5 with integrated Radeon graphics ran it with a frame rate that isn't choppy and a resolution that is easy on the eyes. The 8gbs of high quality 3200 megahertz memory helps make this machine fast and efficient. This is not a gaming computer by any means but it is certainly capable of running a few less demanding games. The screen is not anti-glare but it is vivid and includes several options to adjust the display settings including contrast, color and sharpness. The wifi antenna is located inside the bezel at the top of the screen and is very strong. It is able to pull a signal in an area of our home where our other devices struggle to do so. This has been a feel good purchase and after continuing to shop for a better deal, I simply cant find one that includes this level of hardware, options and build quality at $629.99. I am one happy customer!

HP envy 360 2 in 1 perfection
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love love love this laptop, easily switch between laptop to tablet to both at once. Fast, reliable and handles a load with no lag, fast response and as of yet cannot find one thing I am not liking. Slim lightweight design, backlit keyboard, USB, C connections, flash drive, you name it it's got it. The screen display is very sleek, no glare and even at an angle picture still clear and detailed. Fingerprint scanner which makes life so much easier for me anyway, pin or password are options as well. Processor has no lag, even with several tabs , apps, and search engines going all at once. Windows 10 so you have the choices For Chromium, Chrome, Web developer 64, and so many more . Options, they are a are many on this HP. 15.6" screen, that can be a tablet ,touchscreen laptop , or laptop . 360 degree folding design was genious. AMD RyZen delivers with graphics most mid level gamers would kill for. For the price it can't be beat and I have yet to find a downfall to this HP

AMD Ryzen Absolutely DESTROYS
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is an absolute BEAST for the price. I got the 15.6" envy for 579$ and its perfect. it is 250 nits but still bright enought for indoors and the build quality is great! the 6 Core Ryzen 4500U is the real star here tho. This thing is beating top tier Intel Core i7 and its not even the top chip! AMD is truly destroying Intel in price and performance. Intel is now behind on their 14nm process vs these 7nm 4500U AMD Chips. the performance is amazing. the fan does get a bit loud sometimes buy go into the HP Command center and set the fans to silent. make sure to download the drivers directly from AMD for graphics and install intel wifi drivers directly from their website as well. i recommend this 100% i have personally bought around 10 of them for friends and families.

good overall
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One important thing when buying a laptop is the keyboard because if you don't like the keyboard then you're probably not going to like the laptop. I think this keyboard is great, not too little key travel and not to much. It's also back lit for use in the dark. I'm not using this laptop for gaming, but I was surprised how well it was able to handle a game like call of duty. It's a bit laggy at first, but once the map is loaded in, it handles it very well. However the battery life suffers when playing games like this. If you're just using it for casual use like surfing the internet, watching videos, or writing papers for school the battery should last all day, although it could be better. Overall I'd recommend this laptop for a casual user.
