Got this computer as a replacement for my aging XEON desktop. Didn't use for gaming but did video encoding. As delivered the system was clearly not performing as well as it could. I tried uninstalling the add-on stuff from HP and it made a slight improvement but it still wasn't quite there. I then did a complete new install of W10 using an image downloaded from Microsoft. This made a real difference. Boot was faster and no more random laggy response. I also pulled the hard drive and replaced it with a 1TB SSD and upgraded the system drive to a 500GB SSD. This system is now very quiet, extremely fast, and can easily handle any video encodes I throw at it.

Purchase this for under $780 during the Black Friday sale - could not be happier! I priced out the components and there was no way I could have built a cheaper system with the included components: Ryzen 2700 CPU with fan ($250), Motherboard ($100), 16 GB RAM ($120), 128 GB NVMe ($80), 1 TB Hard disk ($80), Case ($50), Power Supply ($50), Windows 10 ($100), AMD Radeon RX 580 Graphics card ($210). I did immediately upgrade the 128 GB NVMe drive to a Samsung 970 EVO (1 TB) but overall, out of the box this system rocks!

I have wanted a new PC for a while, I just don’t have time to build one right now. This came along on sale for $699, I got it all setup to an Asus 24inch monitor, so far it looks and performs outstanding. It seems fairly locked down to upgrading but I just wanted something that would work out of the box and this fits that bill. It’s silent when turned in until I turn on a graphic intense game and then you just hear the fans turn on.

    Good value but with caveats

If you plan to use this PC as-is, it's a decent value. I bought it during a big sale, which brought it below what I could build it for, even if I chose cheapo parts. Will handle pretty much any current game at high settings. You won't be disappointed with performance. However, note the following caveats: 1) The graphics card is the 4gb variant. Not a huge impact now, but not as future-proof as the 8gb version of this same graphics card. 2) The case is very compact, which is good for space, but not so much for CPU and GPU temps. CPU/GPU temps exceed 85-90C under load, which is within specs, but not ideal for long-term durability of the parts. 3) HP uses proprietary parts for the motherboard and power supply. I bought this intending to transfer the parts to a bigger case with better airflow, but couldn't due to the parts. Should have known better. The motherboard has nonstandard mount holes and even has the front i/o ports built in (instead of headers). Power supply is only 400W and has a weird fan connector. Ended up buying a new motherboard (which of course meant a new copy of Windows) and a power supply. To be fair, HP doesn't advertise or intend for folks to do this, but wanted people to know just in case they had the same idea as me. Bottom line is that this PC is a good/fair value for folks who don't plan to tinker around with the parts. On sale, it's a borderline great value. It also runs hot under load, so depending on your intended use, you might want to consider a PC with better airflow.

The worst, most sorry excuse for a gaming computer

I bought this computer back in 2017 as my first gaming computer. Ever since then I have regretted it severely. This computer has caused me nothing but problems and uses technology that is 10+ years old. You can go down to micro center and buy a computer that is futuristic compared to this ancient trash. So let’s begin with the problems. 1. It overheats non stop, there is only one tiny fan to get rid of all of the heat in the computer. I have had to open the side of it and put a desk fan in the opening to keep the overheating to a minimum. Running this computer with any game on even medium graphics nowadays will net you in the 80C temperature range (176F) and acts as a space heater for your entire room. With extended use this causes the computer to outright shut itself down if run for too long. Recently I have run into the problem where after running itself hard for too long it will randomly over stress itself and I need to tear it apart to diagnose what is wrong with it and fix it otherwise it becomes nothing more than a glorified browser opening computer. 2. The tiny space allowed for the components does not ally any form of Upgrades. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to buy a bigger pc, if a part breaks or a better part comes out that will improve the performance it will be as simple as unplugging and plugging in the new part, in this one it’s so tiny that you would have to modify multiple parts and drill massive holes in the front for a part to even fit. I have had friends of mine look at the computer and they are absolutely baffled at how horrible it is. It uses technology that would be common for a high end gaming pc in 2007 and has the audacity to claim itself as a competitor to much better systems. In summary: This computer is the worst money can buy and will cause you nothing but problems and struggles. You are better off spending your money building a pc yourself or going to a dedicated computer store where they can supply you with a computer that will actually function as a computer

Fast start up is nice. Using freesync is a great feature to finally use with my qled monitor. Photos open instantly. Ill add another review when I load up a couple games to test graphics. At $780 black Friday became a huge bang for the buck buy. Rx580 and 16gb ram...ryzen 7. Boom boom and......boom. Thanks HP and Bestbuy.

    HP Fails Again

This unit was not worth the price I paid. The case is too small, the airflow is terrible, and because it is OEM, you cannot even upgrade any of the parts. It also had a less than desirable CPU and a lower end GPU (in terms of processing power, not quality). The Ryzen 7 2700 is the 2nd generation chipset, meaning that is lower in both raw power, and speed. The RX 580 is good for a starter gaming setup, but will not be "anti-obsolete" or whatever is a better word. This computer is good for a starter setup. It can run games like TESV: Skyrim on high, and render games like Metro Exodus on high as well (with limited settings). I would not reccommend this PC to someone who wants to save money by reusing their case, as it is a smaller case than pictured I would recommended it to someone who is just getting into PC gaming.

(I got this for around 800 dollars during the Christmas sale.) This gaming pc is amazing! It can run games at max settings, and it can run minecraft shaders as well! VR games like Boneworks and Beat Saber run excellently too with no lag. This pc is a bit loud while playing graphically intensive games though. Overall, this pc is great all-around and is really fast!

Got it on sale. Was a bit nervous what I was getting for the price. Turns out... Great system! Processor speed is impressive. The 128 SSD does wonders. The graphics card will need an update in a year. Forza said I meet the requirements but not optimized. Other than that one issue, love it!

This computer is fast and handles gaming as well as other tasks. I work from home sometimes and it is faster than my computer at work so I find myself at work getting frustrated because I have adjusted to the speed. It has a very good graphics card for the price.

I bought this desktop to upgrade a four year old model that was showing its age. It is fast, quiet and handles ultra settings on all my current games. It does run a little warm but it hasn’t interfered with its performance.

This powerful machine has all the specs and horsepower you need on a modern gaming/workstation. Its super quiet and compact even under heavy load. If you get it on sale, its a steal. Best PC i've owned in 20 years.

The machine is quiet, and worked out of the box. First issue was needing an adapter for my monitor. Should have read the fine print in the specs that it only comes with (multiple!) HDMI outputs. Second problem I ran into was that the PC was configured to store My Documents, Music, Pictures, and Desktop to the C: drive. That's the 128gb SSD that should be dedicated to the OS and programs. Nothing was stored on the 1 tb hard drive! So I had to move those folders to use the big HDD. Don't like the vertical cd drive; this unit is wide enough to fit one horizontally. One other quirk so far: my phone didn't like being connected to the front USB ports, but they have worked for other devices. Luckily, a back USB worked just fine.

Im nit all into 4k gaming but this will play almost any game in 1080p high setting. The desktop is small which make it carrying it around easier when moving. It gets the job done for me so no complaints here.

This model of HP's pavilion line-up has all the bells and whistles you need to be able to do almost anything demanding. The 8 core Ryzen 2700 is one of the highest end 2nd gen processor in the Ryzen series you can get. The RX 580 handles all games at 1080p for the most part, and the other components (ssd, memory) work well together to bring you a good collection of parts. PROS: -It's quiet. A lot quieter than I had expected. Playing a demanding game for 4 hours, I could barely hear the fans blowing. On idle, it's basically dead silent. -The PC itself is actually quite small, I'd say about as large as a 15" laptop in terms of it's height and width. I'm surprised how well they were able to cram all the components inside the case without making it look like a mess. -Minimal bloatware on start up. The only really annoying thing was McAfee which I immediately uninstalled. CONS: -While it's nice that it's small and quiet, this also means it can get pretty hot. After my 4 hour gaming session, the temperatures got up to around 70 for the CPU and 90 for the GPU. The CPU temperatures might be ok, but the GPU temperatures are a bit high for my taste. This is also caused by the fact that the case only has one fan. One fan! The entire case has one exhaust fan to cycle air through. They could have designed it so that a front fan is included which would greatly increase airflow. -The included RX 580 is a 4GB version. That's half of what you'll usually see in a RX 580, and many benchmarks comparing a 580 to a GTX 1060 uses the 8GB version. This is something to keep in mind when searching how well the 580 will do in your games. OTHER THOUGHTS: This really is a nice PC at a very reasonable price. As a buyer, you should go into this thinking you'll be buying a PC as is, and not really something you'll be upgrading on for later. While it's possible to upgrade/swap out parts in the computer, it certainly isn't easy to do. You'll find that you'll be much happier using the PC as is, and it certainly won't disappoint.

This is not a top notch KYA gaming rig. But, for casual gamers that don't need 120fps, this is great. It gets better performance numbers than my i7 (older). One of my gripes is that I wish the video card came with 8GB RAM. I will most likely upgrade this in a year or so. Another is the internal drive bay's are limited as well. You don't get the expansion as other cases. My last one is that it didn't come with a Blu-ray/DVD drive. It's a DVD-RW only. All this being said, I got it for an awesome price when it was on sale, then BB did a price match on it just a few days later. So, it was well worth it for the price.
