Customers commend the product's price, calling it unbeatable at $399 refurbished. They also express satisfaction with the audio quality, describing it as awesome. The Windows 8 operating system is surprisingly well-received, with positive feedback. However, some users have concerns about the screen blinking due to auto brightness adjustment.

This is a refurbished laptop then it may not perform as well as new one. but overall it good. The only problem is the start up time which is a little bit longer than others. It will stay black screen for about a minute some time even longer. However when it is started, every runs fine. I play computer game a lot, and this laptop can run most of the popular games like, LoL, WoW, COD, in at least medium graph quality. This is a good choice for a gaming laptop with low price. Just be patient after pressed the power bottom.

Best Bang for a Student Gamer's Buck

I'm a full time student that likes to casually play PC games and surf the internet all day, and I bought this refurbished version of the HP Envy 3 weeks ago. Just thought to give my own 2 cents for anyone else thinking about purchasing this laptop to hopefully assist them with their decision for buying a new laptop, because it is a big buy.
Pretty much bought this version for the ENVY for the cheap price compared to the specs. For a refurb you buy a good laptop that can run like it's higher end, yet at a lower end price. The really nice features like Beats audio, biometric scanner, and backlit keyboard packed with the good look really got me into it. And when it came to my door, I wasn't let down with what HP brought to me, and it runs like a new model.
AMD's 2.3 ghz CPU quad-core chip is a perfect match for it's 7660g GPU chip, and they pretty much eat every game I can throw at it, almost all on high graphics too! What will probably get them on their knees is something along the lines of trying to play guild wars 2 on med-high graphics, but hey like I said I'm a casual gamer only, playing games like Sleeping Dogs and Bioshock Infinite that both can be played on High graphics). Truly though, almost all normal laptops will not be able to run games any higher than that due to cooling problems. The CPU and GPU will do everything a laptop gamer needs them to do!
Other than those unbeatable specs, the other details have made me really like the laptop. Pretty much all of my friends I've shown it to thinks it looks amazing, and thought it was a 1000 dollar Mac at first glance. Who knew people would be so into finger scanners? Lol. The Beats Audio sounds like heaven compared to all other laptops I've heard, and the backlit keyboard just makes using this at night great, which is important. And contrary to the general opinion of Windows 8, I don't mind it at all and enjoy it enough to keep it as my OS. Yes, the start screen is more catered to touchscreens, but I just spend most of my time on Desktop mode, and my desktop screen is a lot neater than it would be on Windows 7. Just a couple days of working with Windows 8 and finding out all the cool little tricks and features of it and I'll guarantee your opinion will get better.
The pros DEFINITELY outweigh the minor cons, but I'll quickly list them anyways to decrease any impulsive buying feelings a reader might be feeling right now. The keyboard is flimsy, and you can notice this if you tend to look at your keyboard while typing. In bright light, you can see any scratches, dings, small debris that got into the speaker holes, or linings of the laptop that are off. Also, the screen is glossy, so there can be a lot of reflection if you're trying to use it on a sunny day outside. Also, the refurb came with only 670gb free in hard drive space, 80 gb less than what it says it is. But I really don't think I'm gonna reach using 670gb on this laptop anyways. And I'm gonna say that the battery could be better, because I would let it hibernate overnight and return to it with less battery life, but perhaps this can just be the battery itself due to refurbishment. I'm guessing on powersaver and surfing the web I can get 4 hours, which is good enough, but the guess 'time left' on the battery display always gets my hopes up to let me down when it drops an hour after just 5 minutes. The fans aren't very loud which is good but after a long time gaming or using it with coolsense off the laptop can get uncomfortably hot, so I advise getting a cooling pad for home use and gaming. And I'm not sure if I'm right, but I'm guessing this laptop was taken apart and reassembled. Also a good load of bloatware, but I uninstalled all of them pretty easily. Lastly, some people might not like the touchpad because it does have minor engraving in it, making it feel "scratchy like a record" as one girl that used my laptop put it, but I don't mind it and it works well compared to other touchpads without actual buttons for the left and right clicker (big pet peeve). I suggest to go a nearby Bestbuy and check it out if you really are thinking about getting this laptop.
Hopefully this really helps anyone deciding on a laptop. I suggest these people thoroughly research all laptops in their price range and also checkout other sites like newegg and dealnews for laptops. This refurb laptop has been really great so far, and hopefully I can say that far down the road from now. Good luck choosing, and don't settle for less!

Was in the market for a new laptop, my not so old laptop took a dive down some stairs and I had spend the last 4 month's doing my digital "living" out of an Acer Aspire One netbook I had picked up on craigslist for 50 bucks. while I did like the light size and the battery life, the performance was disappointing to say the least. I finally had some spare funds for a laptop so the search began:
My requirements were as follows: Good speed, Decent GPU (I do play casual Strategy Games like Sins of a solar empire, and Star Trek Online, was not needing something that would run Crysis 3 at 100+ frames per sec on max settings.) decent sound for music, optical drive, (some of us still like to watch dvd's), and that was about it.. I stumbled across this laptop and decided to take a chance and order it, as the specs far outstripped anything I was finding used locally for the price. and I didn't want an amd "e" series processor, (already made that mistake!) I was a bit nervous, as this was the single most expensive item I had ever purchased online, but it arrived without incident 4 days later. I started up the computer, went through the setup, (honestly can't see all the hate for windows 8.) buy a 3 dollar program called startisback, and your good, but I've learned the windows 8 native features and found the hatred is overrated. I would recommend making sure your computer has a recovery partition in place first thing. my computer did not have internet explorer or windows media player installed. I ran the recovery partition and it restored windows to it being factory new (with all components). I would also recommend making recovery disks as soon as possible, new computers do not ship with recovery disks anymore, (haven't since vista.) Once I got all these things accomplished and transferred everything over, computer performance passed my expectations. I can run most of my games on high settings and they look silky smooth, better than I Imagined they would. everything is snappy and responsive, backlit keyboard is great, video playback is awesome, music sounds amazing with my 50 dollar sony headphones. no complaints. I got everything I wanted and then some. and the computer looked brand new when I opened it. I was possibly expect some very minor signs of use, but couldn't find anything. Highly recommended.

I saw this laptop at bestbuy and is really nice the processor is great if you intend to play games. The AMD A-10 Radeon Hd is Dedicated 512 Mb Video Memory. Great, Refurbished is cheaper and is a new laptop as any one.

This laptop is good if you have a budget and you're pretty much just looking for a "college" laptop. It'll do great for writing papers, playing music, even games if you're into it.

Defective Screen, Poor Service

I bought this refurbished and received it a few days later. When I got it I took the time to download everything I needed to on it and everything seemed good. Fair speed and quick start up and the finger print scanner was convenient for logging in. But I noticed a small black smudge in the corner of the screen. It was small so I figured I could just ignore it and that was all good for the first few days. Then I noticed about a week after getting the laptop that the black 'smudge' was getting bigger and growing up the side of the screen and black lines were also coming up from the bottom.
I brought the laptop in to my local best buy and all they could say was that I was lucky to have brought it in when I did because I didn't purchase a protection plan and they don't cover anything after the first 14 or 15 days. The only thing they offered to do was refund my money or give me credit equal to the amount I paid towards another laptop in store but they didn't have this current model in stock there.
I personally liked the laptop and the price I paid for it and I'm sure that most of them wouldn't have this issue. I am more upset with best buy and geeksquads handling of the situation. I at least expected for them to offer free next day or two day shipping so I could get the same laptop right away since much of my time was wasted installing things on the laptop plus the time it took to get it through the mail. I don't think I will be buying from best buy again after the way they handled this because I know it's not the first time they have done something like this as it also happened to a friend of mine a few weeks before.

i bought this laptop new actually. the materials are very cheap. i would see plastics sticking out at certain places. and the keyboard and trim is not aligned right so there are spaces between them.go for something else. i have an hp pavilion and they are well made, but the envy is a different story.
