I bought this for my kids to use for school projects so they leave my computer alone. It was a huge hit with the kids and they use it constantly. The display is big and bright and the processor is fast. The only downside is the weight. It is heavy, but that's what you get with the big display. Well, that and finding a laptop backpack big enough to carry it.

This laptop is a great value for the price. I purchased a Geek Squad refurbished unit to save some money & got one that is absolutely like new. It has worked flawlessly from day one. I can't believe how fast it boots up (less than 30 seconds including log-in). It comes with a good variety of connections & the ability to expand up to 8 Gb of memory (64-bit). I think this one will last me a good long while.

I purchased this as a refurbished unit. It was delivered in great shape, only included the laptop and cord. I love the screen size and display, even though it's not full hd, still very sharp. I think it's a good buy for the money and everyday use.

Other let down is the lack of a word processor program. Notepad is as fancy as it gets. Windows 8 features do not work well on the touchpad. I kept switching applications while scrolling.

The Pavilion 17.3 provides a clear bright display in a light weight package. The quad-core AMD provides more than adequate processing power for everyday applications such as e-mail, skype and web-browsing. My office 2007 suite was installed and has never executed faster. I am more than pleased.
The web-cam video quality is disappointing as I have discovered using Skype. The sound is about average quality. Neither wonderful or horrible.
I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of the stock/currency trading charting software I have loaded. The performance of my previous XP machine was anemic when running the charting software but this machine clearly displayed the charts without any freezes or delays. The charts were outstandingly clear and readable on the large display.
The keyboard layout is cumbersome. The up-down arrow keys are slivers and hard to operate without pressing other keys at the same time. I use these a lot with the trading software. The delete, insert home keys are not positioned for easy location or operation. My old HP that this replaced had a much better keyboard configuration.
The 17.3 inch display has been great. I can open several applications at once and not have to overlay them over one another. Of course, with the 17.3 inch display format, the basic footprint of the computer becomes a bit bulky. But since I do not travel with the computer a great deal, it is not a significant issue. I would rather have the larger screen than a more convenient portable format. The weight of the computer is surprisingly light even with the battery installed.
As stated in other reviews, windows 8 is awful to use and requires a steep learning curve. I have been using microsoft products since the early days of MS DOS. This OS is by far the hardest to navigate. On the other hand, it is the most stable and reliable Microsoft OS product with far fewer crashes and freezes than previous products.
I have upgraded the memory from 4 to 8 GB. This greatly enhanced the performance. The memory slots are easily accessible.
Overall, I have no major complaints about this machine. This computer has met or exceeded my needs and uses. All the features included for what I paid for it made it a very attractive deal.

VERY UNSATISFIED WITH BEST BUY AND GEEK SQUAD!
PURCHASED TWO LAPTOPS FOR MY DAUGHTERS FOR CHRISTMAS, ONE POWER CORD DID NOT WORK. WENT TO STORE WITH BAD CHARGER TO ASK FOR REPLACEMENT. WAS TOLD I HAD TO RETURN THE ENTIRE LAPTOP THROUGH THE MAIL JUST FOR A BAD CHARGER. THEY MADE NO EFFORT AT ALL TO RESOLVE MY PROBLEM. DIDNT SEEM TO CARE AT ALL.
I PROMISE THAT I WILL TELL EVERY SINGLE PERSON I EVER MEET OF HOW BAD MY EXPERIENCE WAS AND I WILL NEVER EVER RECOMEND EITHER COMPANY TO ANYONE.

Purchased from BB on ebay as an XP desktop replacement. Good price, good refurbishment and one year warranty. Load the windows updates, get 8.1 from the store, add a third party software to get the start menu back and you can forget it's Windows 8 if you're so inclined :-)

I bought 3 of these for my kids for Christmas. Their last Toshibas didn't last a year. These play minecraft and are great so far! Kids are on break and stay on them all day. I hope they last longer than their last ones. Two of them still had plastic on them and only one of them had a light scratch on the outside cover. They all looked new.

This laptop was a great deal. $329 for a normally $500+ laptop, that's amazing. I upgraded to windows 8.1 immediately, and it got even better. The only problem I've had so far, is that the mouse pad freezes sometimes (very seldom), for a few seconds, and then resumes. I usually use it on a docking station, so this isn't a big problem. I love this laptop, and if you are considering getting it, you should click add to cart now!

Minecraft need I say more. Great frame rate above 60 fps without optifine. I'd recommend this to any one with $340 to spend.
