What works: Based on MY experience, your results could differ. A. inside-out tracking, as in not having to install or setup additional hardware for positional tracking. (though I've experienced some screen jitters where the point of view would shift to one location and back real quick multiple times during a session.) B. the HTC-Vive like controller produce accurate movements MOST of the time (left hand controller would lose its position in space a couple of times but moving it around would reset it.) C. ease of use, plug it in and Windows 10 detects and asks if you want to install the corresponding software. D. picture quality, 1440p screens located inside the headset. What didn't work: Based on MY experience, your experience could vary. E. size is a little too small for my head, I have a big head and wear glasses. My glasses would not fit inside the frame comfortably. I would have to place my glasses in first at an angle and then slide my glasses (while they are pushed against the sides of the interior frame, ultimately scratching the interior sides) into a decent spot so I wouldn't get a terribly blurry picture. D. blurry vision not too far from the center of the lens. Your eyes pretty much have to be facing forward the entire time, looking away from the center just a bit and the picture would blur. E. odd color streaks coming off picture source. Even with looking straight ahead into the lens, I would see streaks of color coming from the edge of the picture into the center of the picture. Once again I reiterate that what I experienced may not be indicative of what everyone else might experience.

These came as a package with my 15yr olds computer for Christmas. After only 2 uses the headset will not work. Now I know why they were included for free!

I have extensively used this product in stores on demo, and also have used the Oculus headset. I am very impressed with mixed reality being that it is a brand new product and what it can do. Yes because it has just rolled out there will be bugs but for the most part my experience was flawless! Plug and play, just update your pc at the most. The requirements are much lower then that of other competing headsets, and just as good. You either need a new 8th gen pc which start at 499$ and up, or something with a decent graphics card that can easily be multiple years old. You start off in what is known as the "cliff house" which is your virtual home. You can move furniture and use things within your home such as : virtual desktops with edge, the windows store, and launch games. Steam VR is coming to these headsets! I played a title "Space Pirates" and was very impressed. You have virtual guns that you use to shoot, and you can even use the sights to aim and shoot! You need to have a clear space as you need to doge and jump bullets. It was a fun exercise for me. The headset is comfy and fits well, if you were glasses the headset pops up easily to let you put it on over them. You hold a controller in each hand to interact in your virtual world, and for games for shooting and so on. What sets this apart from other VR headsets is the fact that 1) the motion sensors are built in and do not require tons of sensors all around the room. 2) you can use AR and VR hence "mixed reality". I'm ready to watch Netflix on a 300' tv in bed.

Having been out for quite a while now, I'd have expected the software to be a bit further along, but alas, Microsoft has and still is dragging their feet, and there are many bugs including full system lockup (tested on 2 separate state of the art systems). Out of the box, it's a real pain in the butt to get this to work with Steam VR properly, and even when working, get ready for lag, weird intermittent button mapping issues and having the joystick open the Steam menu every time you press it.(Currently, the only place to get real AAA VR titles is Steam for the WMR headsets). The support for WMR is not adopted for many titles, as Vive and Oculus are still mainstream. No native way to watch 3D, SBS content, unless you get Gizmodo in Steam and download the files first somewhere on your HD (good luck streaming a VR video). Every time you connect the headset, you have to redraw the boundaries, which gets very old very quick. The pupilary distance is set for someone with a small head. I am a tall Norwegian man, and I only get clarity with one eye or the other. There are no options for this headset to be adjusted in Microsoft options through software, and no options to adjust this with hardware. To top it off, mine came with 2 dead pixels. This HP product seemed more like it should have had a cheaper bargain company logo on it, like RCA. The best part of the whole unit was the box it came in ... which it's going right back into and exchanged towards an Oculus. I'm a very tech savvy person. If you are a novice user or just looking for a bit of fun without frustration and constant workarounds, do yourself a favor and get the Vive or Oculus.

i struggled for hours to get my controllers to get set up called support and they couldnt help me. they told me to get a new set so i did and same thing so i called support again and couldnt get it to work drove me crazy! But finally i did something and the controllers worked and cant be more happy with it. I have not played any games on it yet but i got to mess with it. I wear glasses and the headset isnt painful but yet can have a problem for some people. There is a little bit of blur to it but could be my glasses but only with a see thru a certain area. Its different and got it as a gift but make sure you have enough PC to run it or you will have problems. 7700k gtx 1080 ti 16gb RAM

I will start by saying I have not played any other VR so I don't have anything to compare it to. But I am really amazed with VR in general. I really like this set up also because I don't not need any sensors. I have it set up in my living room and the lack of sensors makes it very easy to out away when I'm not playing it. Everything seems to work great. I highly recommend purchasing this for the right price.

I just got a gaming computer after maybe 10 years of not owning one and my interest in VR has brought me back. I got this hp gaming headset and although it took me a while and some research to get everything running right, it now works flawless. Especially that now it works with steam VR, me and my kids couldn’t be happier.

I got this headset by mistake when I went to pick the DELL version of a mixed Reality headset. I figured why not give it a shot SAME Price product. I have a top of the line game laptop... I connected the HP headset and followed the process... I got to the point of the HMD desktop software opening on my laptop. It told me I had to update something... OK... I sat back and drank my coffee for 20 minutes... some thing pop up... error in the MS software updater... OK lets do it again.... 3 more tries later. I am returning this hoping the right headset (DELL's Headset for mixed reality) works.

Great VR headset for the price ($199 sale)

There's no better way to get into VR than with this headset at the marked down price of $199. You are able to run SteamVR with Windows Mixed Reality headsets, and if you're buying this for gaming purposes, it's pretty much a no-brainer. $199 plus tax, then $20 for Beat Saber on Steam and you'll have fun for hours.
